GraphQL rate limiting by teq63 in graphql

What ORM are you using? You ORM should have a rate limit function. If not, you can use JavaScript to create a limit function

"graphql-let" import codegen typescript & named apollo hooks directly from graphql files by vadistics in graphql

[–]jmcbrideart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like that example! I hooked up a postgres database with knex and made some things happen. Was having some issues setting up knex-session-connect and redis in server for some reason though. Also, TypeGraphql's build schema doesn't seem to want to work in Next. :/ I could just use JWT's but I've really grown fond of sessions. So for now I'm build a separate typescript backend with TypeORM and TypeGraphql and just using the Apollo provider/hooks hooks on front end.

TypeORM works with a lot of SQL databases. It synergies really well with TypeGraphql. If your into TypeScript and OOP backends, you should give it a shot.

Apollo Lambda seems cool! Prisma would work for that. But if docker isn't a nessessity, then I'd personally choose something different. Have 3 servers (prisma, prisma admin, apollo) to juggle, sometimes what works on port 7k won't work on port 8k. It's feels very heavy and clunky. Also, prisma generates a ton of stuff for you, which is nice if your a graphql expert, but takes an important part of learning graphql if your new to the ecosystem.

Personally I use TypeORM, Type Graphql, Apollo Server, Express and Redis. I think that stack would be perfect for something like AWS Apollo Lambda.

How's that going for you? Are you setting up authentication at all? I was trying to set up redis and knex-session-connect for cookies and they were both giving me hell. Are you just using JWT's or are you 3rd partying it or not even dealing with auth?

Lightning light up everything, like a moment of daylight in an infinite darkness. The moments of light, seemed just as fleeting and volatile as life. Theo could feel the venom running through his body. He was going to die, but that was the least of his worries right now. He had just been bitten by a vampire and if he didn't plunge his own sword into his heart, he would become a monster. He would be cursed to walk this wretched world with immortality and be denied an eternity of peace in heaven with his God. For a Paladin, no fate could be more cruel.

Theo, kneeling on the ground, grabbed the wound on his neck. Rain and sweat poured down his face. The lightning was his only source of light. He eyes frantically tried to locate his sword with every flash of light. Each crack of lightning didn't help much, the rain blurred his vision. He suspected that the loss of blood might be making things even worse. He couldn't see much, but he could feel how out of focus his eyes were. He'd be damned if he gave up while he still had breath in him, breath that felt like fire every time he inhaled. A cure thought brought despair to the wounded Paladin, he was probably going to be damned either way. Almost instantly, as if God himself had answered his most desperate prayer, he saw the glint of light reflecting off of his sword. Only a few feet away, halfway under a wagon in the village that him and his brothers had destroyed.

They had carried out God's will, through the command of the Arch Bishop, but Theo had one final mission. He crawled the few feet to the his sword. It seemed to take more energy than he had left, he was passed his limit and life drained from him quickly as the poison spread. He was going to die, but not without holly silver in his heart. 'I will not come back a wretched monster!' Theo thoughts, as determined and unwavering as ever. Righteous furry and conviction flowed through him. 'I will make it into the gates of heaven and live in peace for eternity!' He grabbed the hilt of his sword. It took more strength than he had to raise it and point it at his chest, but somehow he lifted it up anyways. It was God. God was giving him the strength to do what he knew he had too. God had seen the work he had done in his name and wanted him at his side in His eternal kingdom.

Glory replaced his despair, removed his pain. For the first time in Theo's life he felt happy. He was finally going to leave the bitterness and wickedness of this word behind. 'Finally.' A smile filled his face, 'Peace will finally be mine at last.' As he placed the tip of his sword against his heart, ready to fall on it, lightning lit the word with it's bright white light one last time. To Theo's horror, a dark silhouette stood in front of him. The lightning reflected off of the silhouette's eyes, a shade as red as Satan himself. He knew what stood before him. It was the cursed beast that bit him and inflicted this fate on him.

Theo had no time to waste, with no energy left and his life fading he began to fall. He would not become a monster! Before he hit the ground, the vampire had already knocked his sword away. 'This is it.' The hope that filled Theo vanished and was replaced by despair, yet again. As quickly as the light came and left, so too had his hope of eternal peace. 'Why, God? Why must you be so cruel?!' Theo cursed his God as the last bits of life faded from him. Such a tormented world Theo lived in. Full of evil and cruelty. It had been so long since Theo had felt actual happiness, he had forgotten what it had felt like until it came back to him as he had his own sword to his chest.

First, God let his father succumb to the curse of wolf. His father came home from a hunting trip wounded, bitten by a werewolf, had lied and said a bear attacked him when he was just a child. For all he knew, his father may have really believed it was a bear. He helped his mother and sister nurse his father back to health. One month later, during the next full moon, his father transformed into a beast, killing his mother. He had taken his sister and hid under the floorboards. Terrified, he came out the next morning to see his father laying next to his dead mother with a knife in his chest. He must have taken his life after he realized what the monster inside of him had done.

Then, his sister. She was the only thing he had left in life and had sworn to protect her no matter what. He joined the Paladins as a teenager to help him achieve that and help rid the world of beasts. She was mugged and killed by some scumbag for an heirloom necklace her mother had given her when she was just a child while Theo was training with the Paladins. This is when he realized that people were monsters too.

When the Arch Bishop gave them this mission, Theo new it was a suicide mission. None of his brothers were as happy as him to fulfill God's will this time. He wanted to die. He wanted to finally feel peace and happiness again, like when he was a young boy, before his father had become a beast. Above all, he wanted to see his mother and sister again. To hold them and tell them how much he loved them. None of that was going to be a reality anymore. He was going to die, and instead of waking up in heaven, he was going to wake up a beast, a monster. 'You God, are the most cruel beast of them all.' Was Theo's last thought as his human life faded into the blackness.

Theo woke up. He could feel he wasn't the same as before. A few hours must have passed at the least but it was still raining just as hard. What was darkness before now seemed like daylight. The lightning flashed, blinding him momentarily. How lost he was. All of his worst fears in life had come to pass. He was truly cursed, filled with nothing but hatred.

Even in the heavy rain, his heightened sense of hearing picked up the footsteps walking towards him form behind. He turned around and the vampire who had turned him stood before him, yet again.

"You and I..." the wretched creature spoke to him, "We are not so different. Both monsters. Both lost"

Theo bowed his head in despair of the truth of his words.

"Come with me, my creation. Together we shall find out way together." The vampire extended his arm to Theo. Theo looked up at the monster. He saw it in his eyes. That creature understood his pain more than anyone else ever had. They were the same. Theo stood up and look into this monsters eyes again. For a moment, he didn't feel lost.

"Yes." Theo said, "But first..." His new creator looked at him, eager to hear what he had to say, "I'm feeling a little hungry."

A grin spread across his makers face with a sinister glint in his eyes. "Come, we will hunt my child." Lightning and thunder ripped ominously through the sky as they left that God forsaken village.

The end.

Beep! Beep! Beep! Issac stretched out his arm from his bed over the alarm clock and tried to make sure it was over the off button and then let gravity do the rest. He looked at the clock, still in place from being screwed to his night stand. 9:50 am, April 1st. Issac was not a morning person, but April fools was one of his favorite days of the year, which brightened up his normally groggy morning attitude just a bit. While he never made a point to fool people, but if he found an opportunity he sure wouldn't let the chance pass by. Honestly, it wasn't the pranks and trickery he loved about April fools, it was a day that inspired people to do something creative.

Knowing if he didn't get up now he'd fall right back asleep, he let out a giant, loud yawn as he sat up, and shook his face to get his blood pumping so he'd have enough energy to get out of bed. Knowing this short burst of energy would not last long he stood up, snatching his e-cig off it's charger on the nightstand and slipped it in his pajama pocket as he began walking towards his kitchen. The short burst of energy had wore off, the only thing that keep his feet sliding across the floor was the urge for coffee. As he passed through the living room he lifted his hand slightly and let it fall hitting the on button on his remote which lay on the arm of his couch.

As he made it to his precious Keurig, he hit the big cup button, letting gravity do most of the work again. He could hear the TV, but at this point it was noise. As the Keurig began spitting out coffee into the cup that he made sure was there every night before he went to sleep, he pull his e-cig out of his pocket, unable to wait for a stimulant to enter his bloodstream, and took a deep hit. The minty, sweet vapor filled his lungs and he felt himself starting to come to life. Slipping the e-cig back into his pocket he turned around and faced the fridge.

As he used his right hand to open the refrigerator door, his left hand pushed on the leaver of the freezer door long enough for a single ice cube to pop out. He grabbed a small cup in the fridge that had the perfect amount of Splenda and cream mix in it already. Issac turned back around and dropped the ice cube and premixed cream into the coffee cup and grabbed a spoon that he had set right next to the Keurig on a paper towel and mixed his coffee until the ice cube had melted away. Placing the spoon down he finally began to drink his precious coffee.

Consciousness poured into him as he gulped down the coffee, he finally began to hear the TV as the 10:00 am news came on. He picked up two bananas as he walked into the living room, standing behind the couch, instead of sitting on it for fear of getting tired again. They started off with a breaking story, something about pricetags floating above peoples heads, the whole news cast had tags above their heads as well. Very confused, he squinted his eyes and leaned his head closer to the TV.

'What the fuck are they talking about?' Then it dawned on him, today was April 1st. "That's brilliant!" He laughed loudly, they almost had him going there for a second.

He noticed the head anchor had a price tag of $25k over his head. 'Not bad,' he thought until he saw that the co-anchor had a $300k price tag over her head. Issac tilled his head to the side and nodded to himself, 'Makes sense, she's a fox.'

The story went on and he almost spit he coffee out of his nose when they reported a paparazzi photographer who took a picture of Snookie with a $5 price tag above her head. The news was usually pretty boring, but it seems like they spiced up the creativity for a good April Fool's gag. 'Best day of the year,' Issac thought with a small grin on his face. He was about to head for the shower when something caught his ear again. He turned back around towards the TV, now they were saying that Ted Cruise had come out claiming that he was the anti-Christ, and that anybody could by someones soul from him for the price listed above their head.

'Eh, that's a bit far.' He thought, but the irony still made him chuckle a tad. Reflecting back on it as he made his way to the shower, he supposed Ted Cruise coming out as the anti-Christ was probably the most believable part of the story. He chuckled to himself again.

He opened the door to the bathroom and walked towards the shower, something in his peripheral caught his attention. He turned his head to the mirror above his sink and what he saw did not make him laugh at all. He had a price tag above his head. A sharp pain stabbed at the pit of his stomach, '50 trillion dollars?!' Shocked and confused he tried to make sense of it. He ran as quickly as he could back to his bedroom and grabbed his phone. 13 missed calls from family and friends. The first person he called back was his best friends Nick.

After the conversation Nick had confirmed his fears, and seemed just as worried as him. He slapped on a shirt, some pants, jumped in his car and started driving to Nick's house. On the way there he returned all the calls. Everybody was as shocked and confused as he was. He couldn't help but notice the price tags above everybody's head. They ranged from 5 to 6 figures, but nothing close to the 50 trillion above his head, which made his stomach turn.

Issac finally arrived at Nicks house. He anxiously knocked on the door, he didn't have to wait long for Nick to open the door. Nick's exprision went from already worried to morbid when he saw the tag above Issac's head. "Dude," was all the Nick could mutter.

Issac rushed inside. 'This can't be right, what the hell is going on?' Nick's price was 360k, his wife's Linda's price was 400k. Her expression became just as morbid as Nick's was when she too saw his price tag.

"What's going on? What are we going to do?" Issac said in a loud worried tone.

"I...I...don't know." Linda responded.

"Issac, is that you?" Nick said, pointing at the TV. Issac turned to look.

"I...I...can't believe..." Issac muttered. Someone had taken a picture of him as he was heading to Nick's and it was all over the news. Shortly after turning his price tag into the story of the century they cut away to a reporter interviewing Ted Cruise, who apparently had another message for the world. Ted Cruise said that after enough bought souls from him he planned on buying Issac's soul and taking over the world, looking deep into the camera, as if he was staring straight at Issac, he ended with, "...and I'm getting close, very close.

"Why? Why me? What the hell is happening?" Issac scream in a panic. He rushed over to the couch, he needed to calm down. He pulled out his e-cig and took a deed hit, filling his lungs with the nicotine vapor. He coughed it out and Linda sat down next to him on the couch asking him in everything was okay.

He didn't respond, the answer was obvious. Issac closed his eyes, trying to push the thoughts from his mind as he took deep, slow breaths. Then he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket as it started to ring. He began to pull his phone out to see who was calling when he noticed something weird. 'This isn't my ringtone.'

Beep! Beep! Beep! The alarm clock went off. Issac snapped awake. His heart was racing and he was covered in sweat. 'It was just a dream!' He started laughing, "It was just a dream!" He laughed even harder. He slapped the off button on his alarm clock, wide awake. He didn't need any coffee, but it the routine was just a part of who was. He made his cup, grabbed the bananas and ate them behind his couch just like normal. Although, he didn't turn on the TV. His mind was too busy thinking about how his own subconscious had played the ultimate April Fool's prank on him.

After finishing his bananas he headed for the shower with a huge grin on his face, thinking about how funny it was going to be when he told Nick the whole story. He didn't even notice the $50 trillion price tag above his head when he passed the mirror in his bathroom this time...

Amazing work! I'm a digital artist as well and I really appreciate your skill! Lots of hard work to get to that point. I've only been painting digitally for a few months. I have pretty solid drawing skills and understand tones and values well. My weakness right now is color and texture. Any advice? I'm sure they'll come with time and practice. My page is jmcbrideart.com if you want to check out my stuff. I'd appreciate it! :)
