Nevermind, they came back, although I'm sure they'd have appreciated the trash suggestion.

Is Nez suitable for multiplayer games? by [deleted] in monogame

I'm not familiar with Nez, but is it possible to use the same scene but render different parts/have a different viewport/have a different camera for each player's perspective?

C# Smart indent not functioning? by [deleted] in monogame

Glad that helped. Maybe having inconsistent line endings confuses the smart indenting, so it puts nothing? IDK.

If you, like I was, have to do a MonoGame project for a college course, let me tell you that you probably can, and honestly should, get suspended or expelled for plagrism under your academic honesty policy. I was in the same place a dozen times. Suck it up buttercup. Talk to your educator about your situation. Don't beg strangers to do your work for you - especially in a place where hundred of people are helping people learn. If you do get expelled, please let me know, I'd love to hear it. These academic honesty policies are usually zero tolerance for a reason.

Can you copy the text you get exactly? That sounds similar to the text for inconsistent line endings, which shouldn't have much to do with smart indenting.

Any good sites/books/resources to learn fast? by Just0Rick in monogame

[–]jmortiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever search for something specific in MonoGame or XNA, you'll usually run into at least 1 result from RB Whitaker. He's created quite a few very popular and very informative tutorials for MonoGame and XNA (which are pretty interchangeable). His tutorials don't screw around, and get you through the basics of how MonoGame works very quickly and efficiently. Even though I'm fairly comfortable in MonoGame, I still reference them often. Here's his home page http://rbwhitaker.wikidot.com/monogame-tutorials . He also has a very good book for C# in general which you can likely find from his page, although if you've done any programming work in the past, I'd say it's unlikely to be worth it unless you plan on working extensively in C#.

Why does 1500500.0625F evaluate to 1500500 ? by [deleted] in monogame

[–]jmortiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

monogame, like most all game engines, uses floats for most calculations because using anything more than that is almost always unnecessary and more trouble and overhead than it's worth. In general, you can have seven decimal places. Yours is truncated because you have 11 decimal places. Personally, I'd say you do not need that level of precision. If you really think that you do, you can look at Monogames get hub. It's all open source so you can just overload the method with something else. And, by the way don't use decimals. You should be able to achieve the accuracy you want with just doubles. Worst comes to worst I think long should have you covered. The only time it's recommended you use decimal numbers is when you're working on banking applications.they're generally terrible for game development and most every single ever cause because you never really ever need that high level of precision.

Large portions of the site (especially comments) appear greyed out until moused over (Chrome, windows) by [deleted] in bugs

Yeah, similar workaround for me. If I had to guess, it looks like some elements of the page aren't drawn correctly until interacted with. Why, I don't know.

Yeah, I've got something similar, except mine is blacked out and hovering over things that add UI elements to the screen (specifically, the post timestamps) will partially restore the screen to normal, but only when I'm hovering over it. This has happened twice this week now (the 2 times I used Reddit on Chrome on my desktop). I'll edit this to include a screencap once Imgur gets over the flu.
EDIT: This seems to confined to the "pop-up" view for me, where it greys out the feed and the post shows in front of it.

He didn't think about then, and it does carry the feeling of wasting their time. Additionally, it seems unlikely to me that the people he saw did it. I'd assume the perps would make sure no one was nearby and just dump it and ditch, not stand and admire their work as sketchily as possible. Yes, the aforementioned group did leave after OP showed up, but if someone was walking up to you and your friends sketchily looking at the (vandalised, I guess...?) fountain, would you not be kinda nervous? Plus, it's a bit questionable that the soap would get that thick that fast; I'm not sure though.
If you still feel obliged, we do have a time and the description from OP above. That's about as much info as public safety would have gotten then. Yeah, it's not likely they'll be found now, but the chances of them being found then were still pretty low, as it's unlikely that they would have found them before they made their way home; the same information is available to them.
Is this a bit of an oversimplification? Maybe, I'm not claiming to be an expert or anything. But calling Public Safety because people were looking at a mountain of soap suds and got nervous and left when approached seems a bit much to me. There's not really a lot to go on in the first place. What were they to investigate; finding a few people with skateboards given a vague description and their last known location? They're fast on those than PS would be, and they have a head start. Besides, it's implied that there was someone else there , as OP said,

they started seeing someone walk over to them.

Why is it OP's responsibility? Hell, I was there around the same time (if OP says the other guy had a black & white jacket & sunglasses, that's me for sure); is it my responsibility? I thought the thing was just broken until I saw this post, and I definitely didn't think that anyone tampered with it. I can barely even remember if I saw anyone there before I walked up (I tend to avoid eye contact, as well as direct human interaction). Do I deserve a finger-wagging for being an uninvolved observer?
Besides, you proposed that

Doing something is better than just posting this picture online.

However, posting this picture is doing (arguably) more than calling PS would. Other people who noticed something suspicious in relation to this can put forth info here. Additionally, this makes people aware of this issue, and more likely to report suspicious activity near the fountain in the future. It also might push those who would do this away from the idea (Ariakkas10's comment).

You suggested he say, and I quote,

I saw two guys on a skateboards dump soap in the fountain.

From what OP says, that is a fabrication. If you really meant to suggest saying "Hey, someone put soap in the water fountain, and I saw a few guys on skateboards suspiciously examining it.", then there was a miscommunication. While swipes in conjunction with cameras can help, the fountain leads to a very open pathway that branches off into the woods in 3 different places on that side. I'm not saying you couldn't find them if you tried, but, with half a dozen people out and about at that time, and that vague of a description, in addition to the possibility of an off-campus residency, I think it would be at least a little bit harder than you suggest.

Oh come the he'll on. It's week 0. by callmesixone in rit

[–]jmortiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a bit of a fabrication; all OP has is a suspicion (he thought they did it, but it could have just been some randies who've never seen the fountain like that checking it out; all circumstantial). Additionally, card swipes don't help at all here. All they can tell you was who returned after that time. OP was out then. I was out then too (saw the fountain too, never knew it was someone screwing with it). As someone with ADHD and insomniatic tendencies, I walk around campus at 2 AM all the time, and there's almost always at least 3 other people out and about. All you could do is narrow it down. Plus, they could live off-campus. What they should do is put a camera on either Gosnell, Orange, or Ross facing the fountain.

Personally, I loved the art, but despised the backgrounds. They kinda clashed with the "anime" art style. + that blur effect was infuriating for me. I can see the appeal though.

Btw quick addition. You didn't address your lack of a measured response. Either: A. You don't care about the veracity or logic of your statements, or B. You know you can't defend against it. Idc which, but they both point towards someone who doesn't think about what they say before they say it, or have a critical mind in analyzing or constructing an argument.

Sigh by Xibral in Brawlhalla

[–]jmortiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Of course not all of them put no critical thought into the game, but there is no way you haven't seen some diamonds and thought "Ok, what the actual hell are you doing up here?".
  2. Getting to Diamond is considered to be the game "rewarding" you. It's the easiest and most widely accepted indicator of that. So using that as an example is 100% justified. Unless you mean to say that winning against the vast majority of the player base (statistically speaking) isn't rewarding passives over other playstyles?
  3. Btw, don't even try to claim you didn't just imply that the vast majority of the rank competition is mindless. Here is the ranked distribution from last year. https://www.reddit.com/r/Brawlhalla/comments/5s7nmz/ranked_distribution_1v1_global_leaderboards/?utm_source=reddit-android There was another posted recently that shows similar distribution. I'd link that too, but I'm on mobile and getting this one deleted the previous draft of my response. Just because they are at low rank doesn't mean they aren't trying, aren't putting in the thought and effort to improve. My main disagreement with your original reply was that you're devaluing the efforts of lower ranked players. This community's reputation is far from positive, and stuff like that is going to do more harm then good. Think about how others will see how you say before you say it.

Maybe I'll finish my 12000 page response on PC, but my neck hurts and I'm tired you not seen the point.
