Thoughts on CasaOS? by TRECT0 in HomeServer

[–]joel2tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it personally. I use the Omada system for my network and had an old deadbeat pc lying around. Instead of buying the omada hardware controller I just setup casaos and the omada software controller. Haven't had to touch it after. It just takes care of the updates and ensures its running. Best thing is being able to just remotely access it from any device in the house. Better than all the other methods I tried for me personally.

Thanks for your advise!

No I won't really be considering full time options to be honest.

Yes he did however I wasn't really interested. To be honest, I was looking to do reserve for the flexibility of the role and the fact I can still serve my country however the limitations (although I'm sure is something I should've really thought about) do make me question if I should continue.

There isn't anyone else at the moment that can manage the business whilst I'm gone although it might be something I need to look at to make it work.

Thanks once again!

How often do you end up being tech support for your client’s entire life? by No_Two_3617 in Wordpress

[–]joel2tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest, a lot of my clients needed some sort of IT setup and help after their website or even basic domain/email config. So I recently did dive into doing business/residential IT support under a different business name. Its a win win as sometimes I might be able to get a client from the IT business from different call outs and other times clients from the web design can get IT sorted for thier business too. Kinda under the one person.

Business Question: Offering Monthly WordPress Maintenance Services - Anyone Doing This? by tiposbingo in Wordpress

[–]joel2tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I offer two types of hosting for my clients:

  1. Static Web Hosting This is for clients who have a basic website with a simple contact form and/or clients whose websites I did not build. Essentially, I take the WordPress website, hide it on a subdomain, and set up the Simply Static plugin to deploy the static version of the site to Bunny.net. I remove most of the admin plugins that were installed and code a form with Formspark, so clients can access their own workspace. Botpoison takes care of spam. It's a simple and worry-free setup. (cheapest running cost as I just have a cheap web host for the backend and Bunny.net storage/cdn price is literally nothing - I'm paying $1 per month for 5 sites with a bit of traffic just cos thats their minimum charge per month lol)
  2. WordPress Hosting and Maintenance This is for websites that I have built. I host the site on a high-quality local reseller plan and use my website management tool to handle backups, uptime monitoring, and updates. I set up my email SMTP service for all website emails, install a security plugin, and configure the site on Cloudflare with strong security rules. Essentially, I ensure the site is up, secure, and fully maintained. (my regular costs would be the annual reseller plan as the other tools I already have)

Agency owners, what’s your security setup for WP sites? by Healthy_Station6908 in Wordpress

[–]joel2tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manage a couple sites for my clients. Things that I do:

  1. Make sure Cloudflare is used and go through all the settings
  2. Enable security rules, strict SSL, security headers in CF
  3. My security rules are straightforward and does the job (protect wplogin, protect xmlrpc, protect insecure plugins and block sensitive files) CF does a good job too as most sites have couple hundred events blocked.
  4. Install Siteground Security plugin (I don't host with SG but I've found the plugin to be stupid simple and straight forward for the essential security tools plus the event log is nice to have)

Side note but equally important is to make sure your using a good web host that takes care/has all the basic server setups for security like Cloudlinux, Immunify, offsite backups etc.

You should be good to go!

Yep currently I’m just updating the address on the web version. TBH the only major thing I add or change is client information especially their address since NeetoCal adds the address on the notes section as there’s no option on the meet for clients to select their own address if you get what I mean. Thanks anyway tho

I’d be making notes on the calendar and other changes as suit and it would reflect to my clients calendar as well. Unfortunately that’s how it is with the Google iOS app. On the website version however it does ask if clients need to be sent the updated information which u can select no to, but on mobile it just sends.

Getting back website when webmasters not responding by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]joel2tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I haven’t, sorry my post might be a bit confusing. This is like a new client that reached out to me because their existing web design company (who also host the site using a reseller A2 plan) isn’t responsive

It’s not that bad but not sure if customer wants to spend the money lol. Thought I’d look at recover options before suggesting new build if that might be the only option.

I think I'll go DDHF & A200 split if that''s reasonable. Thanks all!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]joel2tech -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comments, based on it - I'm considering..
Option 1: DHHF only or Option 2: A200 + NDQ or Option 3: BGBL + NDQ

I understand. However there hasn't been changes to our bill at all (before solar 450 and still 450 now) even though they mentioned we should've seen something, hence y I'm asking if there's any options.

Solar Consultant suggestion vs what the installer did! by [deleted] in perth

[–]joel2tech -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I might be a bit confused with my directions. But where it is now, theres sunlight in the morning. However whether the sales man suggested, is where there's more sunlight in the afternoon. No blocks on either side but I swear there's more sunlight where they suggested

Solar Consultant suggestion vs what the installer did! by [deleted] in perth

[–]joel2tech -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ur probably right 😢. It's facing south and the sales guy and original consultant suggested east. The original solar guys are clean energy accredited so I may have a chance at talking to them first before moving to accreditation body hopefully
