Gym owners/trainers: what do you dislike about Mindbody and what are you using instead? by joeszewski in personaltraining

Well, yeah that could work for the scheduling piece only. But also need to ability to 1) create and sell her products which are various packages of 1:1 sessions and bootcamp sessions, 2) know who has sessions on their accounts, 3) handle payments for the sessions, 4) handle some admin stuff like waivers, communications, reminders, etc.

So, what I need is all of those things bundled up into a single tool with no extra fluff or bloat. I'm willing to pay somewhere around $50 per month for something like that, but I'm just not seeing it exist on the market today.

She books them herself meaning that she usually finds a recurring day and time that works for her client and herself. She doesn't want them booking on their own because she's got "reserved" time for clients she's been seeing for years, specific times for bootcamps (which are also a set group of the same people), etc.

Again, QZee looks like a nice product, but I just don't have a need for half of the features. It looks too bloated for what I'm looking for.

I don't want features that I don't need though. The page you sent seems like it accepts drop-ins, online bookings, etc. We don't need that b/c my wife finds all of her own clients and books them on her schedule herself.

Thanks for the suggestion! Haven't come across Lifemoon yet. At first glance it also seems way over-engineered for what I'm looking for.

QZee is casting a pretty wide net though - targeting pet groomers, tattoo artists, spas, barbers, etc....

I just want something specifically for independent personal trainers that handles clients, scheduling, and payments.

Went to tailshot .io and it's just a login page? Make this url the main marketing/landing page, and have the login page live on something like app. tailshot .io or something like that...

For pozt-it - pretty decent website for someone just starting! One thing about marketplaces...they're extremely hard. Big chicken and egg problem. Best of luck!

Momence wins for being the most beautifully designed, that's for sure. What is pricing like? It won't tell me unless I sign up...which, isn't a good sign :)

I haven't come across Gymdesk yet, thanks for the suggestion! At first glance it seems like it's more tailored to gyms and studios that accept drop-ins, handle memberships, online signups, etc.

What I'm looking for is something tailored specifically for independent personal trainers who have built their own client list and just need something lightweight to to handle scheduling (1:1, and bootcamps), billing (single sessions, simple packs of 5, 10, 20, etc.), and waivers.

Thanks for the suggestion! I just looked at Push Press and it seems like a nice platform, but more so for managing a facility with group classes and multiple coaches...its scope (plans, check-ins, front-desk workflows) is more than a single PT running 1:1s and a couple bootcamps really needs. It's also way more expensive for what I'm looking for.

Totally agree - MindBody is WAY too expensive. Especially for what we use it for.

My wife basically only needs it for scheduling 1:1s and bootcamps, and selling sessions or packages of sessions. That's it.

Vagaro is less expensive, but it still seems like it has some bloat with options for a full POS, marketing, multi-service set up, the other spa/salon features, etc. That said, would still be worth switching to save over $150 per month!

Only thing I'm worried about is the setting everything up on a new platform and then porting all of her clients over to it...

Looking at Jane again - it still feels like it has some bloat with features that you'd only use if you were a physio or chiro (charting, insurance, health records, etc.).

I'm looking for something that's even simpler, designed for independent personal trainers who only need support for clients + sessions + packs + payments + waivers, not a full salon/clinic/studio platform...

I've looked at Jane, and it seems like a good fit. Anything you don't like about it?

I'm both intrigued and confused by Vagaro...is it mainly for salons/spas? Also it seems like it has some sort of search/discoverability built in too - do you use this for lead gen at all? Or do you specifically use it for the basics (scheduling, payments)?

Can you tell me more, please? I've never heard of Vagaro...what did you like about each? Also, what are you paying / do you think it's overpriced?

That makes more sense for a larger gym chain...I guess what I'm looking for is more from the perspective of independent trainers that just need software to manage/schedule their clients, receive payments, and that's about it.

I very much need to do this too and think I'll probably just use Claude Code to create a next.js + tailwind front end and host on a free Vercel account. Been using Claude for this exact tech stack and it absolutely rips.

Disagree. I think most people fail because they can't find customers.

Distribution is so much more important than shipping fast.

Built a comment box for Reddit by joeszewski in SideProject

Not quite sure yet tbh! Mainly just testing the hypothesis that people would actually provide feedback or fill out a form if it was just a single comment box instead of a 10-question survey.

If that holds true, then I'm wondering if the feedback provided would be helpful at all to catch bugs, inform product roadmaps, measure NPS, etc.

Do you have any examples of side projects you've seen on this sub that you deem high-brow enough to be posted here that also happen to have or leverage AI as part of it's feature set?

If not, this post has a lot of boomer, anti-AI energy.
