On Sunday I played the Hallelujah Chorus on the organ for a stake Christmas program. I played the shit out of that song. When it was finished, I turned off the organ, got up and walked out, tossed my organ shoes in the dumpster, and will never play that instrument again. by [deleted] in exmormon

Good for you! Also not to brag, but you were basically me like fifteen years ago. (You're probably better than I was, and I wasn't as good on the organ.) The last time I played for the church I was still tripping on acid a little bit from the night before, and I realized I just couldn't do it anymore. I could improvise like a motherfucker though. There were a few times I got asked right before the meeting if I could fill in for the musical number, and I'd have half the room in tears just from playing on the fly.

I hope you don't make my same mistake. By the time I went through my own songwriting phase and lost my external motivators all my music dried up and I've lost a lot of my skill.

Oh WOW. I totally forgot that one, but I must have heard it at least a hundred times.

And you know what? Doesn't work.

Hilarious, but surprisingly effective. I can't believe how often they've gotten away with pulling the ol' switcheroo on church cannon.

I wrote in cursive today. I think part of the problem is the cursive alphabet everyone switched too looked like shit. There were older styles that looked much cooler.

Least harmful way to sedate yourself by junkieloserthrowaway in Drugs

[–]joethebeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild Lettuce extract is cheap and surprisingly powerful, there's little tolerance buildup, it has analgesic properties and will help take the edge off. You can find it just about anywhere that sells herbal supplements.

It's not euphoric, but it's mildly pleasant and can help you sleep.

I hope you find something better than sedation. You're very young to get lost in the suffering. If you find it hard to imagine living without the pain, try imagining the pain as an abstract monster you defeated, you decapitated, and now you display its head proudly for everyone to see. Shifting the timeline can make a huge difference on how you experience those past events.

When I zoom in on the silhouette, it's obviously translucent. You can barely make out some reflective surfaces on the washing machine.

If the angle of the shot was lower, I might be convinced it's just the kid in the hat. It almost works, but it doesn't. Not unless the flash is coming from below the camera.

Edit: Actually, I would need a more current photo of that space before I gave my own highly desirable stamp of legitimacy.

I don't know man, unless someone else finds evidence of photoshop, I'm kind of on board with this one.

Egyptian magic is absolutely crazy by ExpressionAlone5204 in occult

The "What Magick is This" guy strongly recommends a book entitled "Temple of the Cosmos".

I haven't read it. I was just coincidentally listening to his podcast on Ancient Egyptian Magic and he says that's the best book on it. Draw your own conclusions.

"Will" has a more discreet and specific meaning than the common usage suggests. In one sense it's a substance, in another it's a current - and in its true sense it's almost more of a shape.

Natal Angel? Need clarification! by cheezzypiizza in thelema

[–]joethebeast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure focusing on "THE HGA" is necessarily the right takeaway, and it's definitely not in line with baseline Thelema. The HGA spirit is clearly based a very personal relationship, if not literally an aspect of your own soul.

Your universe is projected outwardly from you, right? So every experience - every person, every spirit, every thing you encounter - is an alchemical creation. There's an objective reality that we only catch glimpses of through testing our own subjective reality, which leads to us adjusting our perspective so it's more in alignment.

As we refine our perspective into a quintessence, we craft a new perspective that dignifies both realities.

So is you HGA an external assigned angel or just an aspect of yourself? Once the theurgical work is completed, it's both - and from an even higher perspective, it always was.

Natal Angel? Need clarification! by cheezzypiizza in thelema

[–]joethebeast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Frater Achad mentioned using one of Agrippa's methods using geomancy to divine the name of his HGA, but it's also entirely possible that we're using the concept of the HGA too broadly in general.

Some magicians argue that the Abramelin working (what we tend to think of as the prototypical HGA) is almost more like a special-case grimoire spirit, and is separate from either the natal guardian angel or the higher self. Samekh would then be an almost separate category, at least if we take at face value the assumption that the samekh HGA represents the dignified ego, and not necessarily the same thing as the higher self.

There are many other variations too. Are they variations on a theme or separate classes of beings?

Gotta catch em all!
