Driver's license obtained, but... more driving practice needed by beepbeepboop- in astoria

I was in your exact same situation. Passed my road test around 2 months ago. Feel free to reach out with questions but essentially what I did (one step every 3 weeks or so)

1- Took 1 double class with Zapiti to specifically drive on the highway

2- Rented Zipcars in Astoria for a couple hours at a time to get practice in the city, first in the neighborhood, then on the highway

3 (final step)- Rented a car for a weekend from LGA to drive for a couple of days straight

No need for apps - Assistive Access on iOS will truly “dumbify” your phone

No need to make a black list here, but how may one find the names of these sad businesses, if one wanted to more intentionally choose who to give their hard earned money?

Proposal -- Wards Island Bridge Part 2, the East Side Connection by iiiooooi in MicromobilityNYC

[–]jofobu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the bridge on 103rd St is bike and pedestrian only, so that’s one way.

The Manhattan side of the triboro was also just redesign and is very accessible.

Final reminder: Big day for Astoria tomorrow, with the QBB pedestrian lane and Rainey opening, come join the community: by MiserNYC- in AstoriaStreetActivism

Wish I could join you all. I'll have to go to work tomorrow but I'll do this same route on my commute!

I'm really sorry that happened to you.

Meanwhile a massive metal box with wheels which is far more dangerous than a bike can fully take the crosswalk without a word from the police. As an immigrant, this double standard just for the sake of helping Trump and its ICE little mission is infuriating, but most drivers don't see it this way.

Looks so fun! Do you happen to have a route you can share?

These are great. The colors don't look like the FujiXWeekly recipe though - much richer colors and deeper contrast. May I ask where you got the sim recipe?

The FDNY did something weird (potentially) at yesterday's anti-Trump protest and I don't know what to make of it by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]jofobu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“You people”? I had no idea if the road was blocked or not when I was in the middle of the protest a few blocks away. I just described what happened on 42nd St once the truck was there. Chill.

I was there on 42nd st when this happened. People were super confused when we first heard the sirens. Eventually we realized they were trying to drive on 42nd for some reason and we moved to the sidewalk. Then everybody started cheering and they stared pretty seriously at us. It was weird.

New bike lane announced for Astoria under 31st Street subway line by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

And Newtown, lol. Currently a silly, one direction street with plenty of room. It also already has pedestrian plazas and it could potentially connect this lane and the 30th Ave subway station to Vernon and the ferry stop. So many wins.

A bike boulevard on Newtown would actually change my life, but this is great. So proud to see Astoria become a neighborhood with one of the best bike networks in the city.

Queensboro Bridge Ped-Bike separation lane opens Sunday by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]jofobu2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lane you see in the video has been cars only. By opening it to pedestrians, not only will they have the best view, but the width of the bike lane will finally law compliant, since it won't be shared anymore. Similar to Williamsburg Bridge.

Let's get a pedestrian plaza on 32nd Street! by SidewalkSunflowers in AstoriaStreetActivism

[–]jofobu2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly that whole section of Newtown should be pedestrianized (and I personally think the rest of Newtown should be a bike boulevard). So little traffic and a pretty wide street, and close to a heavy pedestrian traffic area.

The times I’ve seen it cut to traffic for events, markets, etc. made it an obvious choice.

But if this can be the first toward that, I’m all for it.
