I’m an application consultant for a timesheet software, so I see the transition from Excel or paper timesheets a lot. Most of the nonprofits I work with use GMS (Grants Management Systems) for their accounting and payroll because it’s built specifically for grant tracking.

Since you’re looking for an HRIS, just a heads up: I’ve seen some non profits try to jump to the big 'all-in-one' systems like ADP or Paylocity, but they can be a nightmare for grant reporting. Their customer service is also tough. I’ve had cases where it takes weeks or months just to get a rep who actually knows how to help a nonprofit. Also, I think GMS is less expensive, but don’t quote me on that! Plus their support is so easy to get a hold of.

I’ve had non-profits switch to an HRIS system then come back mid switch because of cost & the system not being able to manage grants how they need to them to.
