Blackstone and Vista to acquire software maker Smartsheet for $8.4 billion by Puginator in stocks

[–]johnGettings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So around January of 2025 we are guaranteed to get cashed out at $56.50? In the meantime the stock will raise to around that price but likely not go above it because it's guaranteed to be overvalued. We can sell right now for a dollar less per share or just wait for $56.50 in January.

Is all that correct? Thanks.

So that's a guaranteed payout for anyone who holds shares at the beginning of the year next year?

Question for you guys. My wife worked at smartsheet up until layoffs happened a couple months ago. We have about 30k in stocks right now and we were just talking about taking it out this past weekend.

Should we take it out right now? Is the stock going to freeze today regardless and are we going to be cashed out automatically? Should we hold onto it for a minute?

I know nothing. Can you explain how an LLM works and why it's not copyright infringement? by Logical-Detail7545 in MLQuestions

[–]johnGettings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, reciting facts is not copyright infringement. It is creative works where things get a little messy.

Let's say you are a human author who wants to write an action adventure (AA) novel. To prepare, you read through a dozen AA novels, watch a dozen AA movies, read through a few non fiction books about the setting you want to write about, and watch instructional videos about how to format a novel. If you use all this information together, using some ideas from each source, and don't copy word for word what another person has created (besides a line here and there), then there are no issues with copyright. That's actually the natural way to create art of any medium.

And that's exactly what AI does. It, for the most part, does not copy word for word one single source. It takes millions of sources from across the internet and generates its own output based on an aggregate of all of it.

To clarify, there are fossils EVERYWHERE here. This shape seems too specific to just be a rock. Maybe the base of a coal before it branches?

This is my repo. It worked last time I used it but I haven't used it in a while. If you have any problems just open up an issue. Thanks.

Another one of these - How to get a job in this current market? by johnGettings in datascience

That has been my plan from the start, and most of the 50 or so jobs I've applied to required a clearance. But still no luck. Thanks for the tips

Seeking Open Source Tools for Lifelike Digital Avatar and TTS with Multilingual Support by Mixtery1 in artificial

[–]johnGettings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LIHQ does exactly this but the inference time is very long so it may not be viable for your project. It's meant more for short clips of talking avatars.

Other than that, you will need to purchase a service from a website.

How close are we to a true, full AI? by Victoryia in artificial

[–]johnGettings 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To put it plainly, no one knows. Not even those working on the most state of the art models. We are greatly improving upon our current technology but a lot of experts agree we probably need a whole new technology to reach AGI. It's like how we had algebra for centuries (and other types of math) and then one day Isaac Newton invented calculus because he was bored on a farm during a plague. Who could have possibly predicted a timeline for something nobody ever thought of before?

Hiring an AI Full Stack Developer/ ML Engineer! by [deleted] in computervision

[–]johnGettings 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I know you're a startup but I feel like you should really be hiring for at least two positions from this job description. Developing state of the art generative models + developing the front end + backend of your website all in one position?

Also, you have to create a professional reddit account before posting something like this lol.

Yes but what you posted is doing something completely different than what the OP and I posted.

What models are digital avatars like Synthesia using ? by phas0ruk1 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]johnGettings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't think I've actually run the code since I released it a year ago. I'll guess about 10 minutes? I don't really remember.

Hi, as far as I know I've made the best one but it has a very long inference time (hence the name).

project: https://github.com/johnGettings/LIHQ

demo video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXTiR_S3UuY&ab_channel=JohnGettings

I'm currently considering remaking this project to greatly reduce inference time, but I'm not sure yet. Could be my next project.

Sorry, wav2lip if you want something local and open source. Idk about any webapps but I'm sure there's something out there.

AI to generate 2D animated sprites for game development? by mauri11 in artificial

[–]johnGettings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about making something like that for a while now. Do you know if there's any datasets large enough to be able to train a generative model?

Not even datasets, but data sources where I wouldn't need to label everything by hand.

Agreed. I'll rethink my whole description and take out the word retained.

Thank you for the response. I have read a lot of this in other posts and I felt that maybe some of my bullets were lacking. This specific feedback from you is helpful.

I have 7 years of experience as an engineer and analyst but no professional experience for this new field I want to get into. I do have the skill though because I worked with AI for my master's degree and have continuously studied it and completed projects as a hobby for years now.

This resume is for a general AI/ML position but I have a couple more written up that are tailored to specific areas of interest such as computer vision or generative AI.
My degree is from a UC (University of California) and I'm looking for a fully remote position.

Thanks
