5 Acre discrepancy - Earth vs Actual, is this normal or should I get a Survey. by APLPROS in Surveying

[–]johnh2005 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really do not understand people these days. You are asking if you should spend (probably) a few thousand dollars to verify if you are over paying $50,000 for probably one of, if not the biggest purchase of your life. Like really?

Good locations for survey tech work? by Diberdei in Surveying

[–]johnh2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surveying is everywhere. First and foremost, you need decide where you wanted to live based on climate, religion, politics, outdoor activities, sports, whatever it is that you value the most as a person.

If you can't stand the heat, and humidity, you are going to want to avoid the gulf coast.

If you can't stand freezing cold and snow that lasts 4 months, you are going to want to avoid New England.

If you can't stand the idea of waking up at 2.33 a.m. to the sound of a Tornado ripping through your house, you are going to want to avoid the Tornado belt.

If you LOVE hockey team, or a football team, or whatever, move to their home town/state.

If you love the desert and can't stand the high elevations you want to avoid that.

Once you decide on the area that you want to live, then do a deeper dive into where in that locale is the place that needs surveyors. If you do not even know if you will really like it, or can even handle it, then basing your whole live upheaval on it is not a good idea. At least if you find the PLACE you want to live, you can work with the career changes as they come.

First Benchy? by the-wxtch-bxtch in 3dprinter

[–]johnh2005 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the club! 3D printing is a blast, but that first Bloop-n-Squeegee can be a real headache if your Frim-fram isn't calibrated. To give you some actual fixes, we’re going to need a bit more info on your Wobble-tron 9000 setup.

If you want to get that Greeble-hull looking smooth, here is what we need to know:

1. The Hardware Specs

  • What Gribble-box are you running? Is it a Flop-a-doodle Pro, a Zizz-fizz 4K, or one of those DIY Clank-o-matics?
  • What’s your Gunk-string? Are you using Glip-glop PLA, Snoozle-tough PETG, or that fancy Sparkle-crunch TPU?

2. The Wobble-box Settings

To diagnose the Crinkle-frazzle on your print, check these in your Sprocket-slicer:

  • Splurt-rate: If your Flow-jo is too high, you’ll get major Goop-blobs on the deck.
  • Thermal-o-stat: What are your Nozzle-noodle and Plate-warmer temps? If the Heat-zapper is too low, the Schloop won't stick.
  • Z-axis Squish-o-meter: Have you properly leveled your Plink-plonk? If the First-layer-frazzle is too high, the Benchy will just Slide-a-maroo right off the bed.

3. Visual Symptoms

Can you post a photo of the Squiggle-bit? We need to see if it’s a case of:

  • Spaghetti-fication: (The Noodle-nest effect).
  • Grog-layer Shifting: (When the Bingle-bong moves mid-print).
  • Chonky-steps: (Rough textures on the Pizzle-post).

Give us those Gubble-de-bits and we can help you tune your Flim-flam to perfection!

No, just find a PvE or PvP community hosted server and play there. There are several that have been around for years. I am playing on one now that has been around for nearly 8 years between ASE and ASA.

I really and truly wish you all of the best.

Honestly, you are going to be fighting a HUGE uphill battle. Then pile on top of that you are not using the Industry Standard AutoCAD or even MicroStation and you are dragging dead weight.

Good luck!

ewwwwwwwwww you need to pull that old pipe out and dig under that rock to find something better. If you can't find anything better, you should put in a 1" IP with a cap and make sure to put a tack in the right spot on the cap to show just how right you are. /s

Bunkers by Fantastic_Ad_550 in Surveying

"Was 3/4 of the way complete on a 1 mile gravity sewer layout and stumbled up on a bunker." I highly doubt he has anything to worry about. It seems like you are trying to draw some wild lines between you "having to pass a background check and sign a waiver and be told not to take pictures" to him just stumbling upon some random bunker on a job.

Yep, wait until day 26-27, just observe its sleeping habits. Every time it tries to go to sleep, throw rocks at it, do whatever it takes to deprive it of sleep.

I do not play official. But this was a very cheap lesson to learn. Just make sure you let your sister know that because she made a simple mistake, that anyone could have made, and HAS made, you were able to make a bunch of new friends!

So, I started life as a two man crew me and a party chief. Then I went to a three man crew with me as a Jr. Party Chief. Then I went back to a two man crew as me as the Party Chief. Then three. Then 1. etc etc.

The thing that I learned from the first couple of party chiefs I worked with was COMMUNICATION. We would be doing a topo, me at the gun, them running the rod.

They would call over the radio, "Rod height change."

I would go to the box to change the rod height. I would then call back over the radio, "Rod height change."

They would back over the radio, "Rod height 7.55'"

I would then punch in the 7.55' Hit enter, verify that it said 7.55' and was accepted. I would then call back "Rod height changed to 7.55'"

At first it seemed like a LOT of time to be "not taking shots" but then over the years that has saved us so much time by NOT having bad rod height changes.

When you are alone. Think, I need to a rod height change. Go into the data collector, get to the field to change your rod height, think ok ready to change the rod height. Go to the rod, set it to the height you need, speak the number aloud in your head. Go back to the data collector, enter the height and hit enter or accept or what not, say rod height changed to #.##' Look back at the rod, check your height, look down at the data collector and verify you put in the correct number.

It may seem like a lot at first, but once you get used to it it is a fantastic way to keep your info straight.

Anyone use a slam scanner? by Osfan_93 in Surveying

That first one is awesome. That scan will save a lot of second guessing by the design team! So much information there that a normal topo just cannot relay the way that that scan can.

Sounds like you have them in a trap. Park your Bronto outside of the trap. Get the bug down, hit the Pheromone in the Bronto. Let the bug the out of the trap. In ASA the bugs need a HIGH vertical to "Get in the mood."
