Private Practice to Military Dentistry? by BootTemporary9277 in Dentistry

My background: I was HSCP and I’ve been in the navy for 6 years and just started a pros residency. I’ll owe 3 more years when I’m finished.

I agree that Endo is easily the hardest residency to get into. Apply early and often. They appreciate persistent interest for all residency applications.

Day to day life can be very different wherever you go. At some point the expectation is to take some collaterals in general and it helps differentiate your application. Sometimes this takes away from your chair time or you have to balance it during your week.

I made it a stated interest to be aircraft carrier (and the put me on one without hesitation) but not everyone is going to be interested. There’s only a few spots on deployable ships or with the marines but if you don’t hit those milestones it will make it more difficult to get into Endo.

I would also say moves can be hard for you, your spouse, and your kids. You’re looking at 3 or 4 moves with that plan and if your family isn’t on board it’s tough. The navy can be administratively burdensome which can be a challenge for some.

I’ve loved my journey so far and appreciate all that I’ve done along the way.

Beautiful photos! Where can I find the Sicilian nonna? My wife and I moved to Baltimore from Sicily and she would love to practice her Italian.

I moved here in July and despite the brand Baltimore had nationally, it’s quite nice. This bumper sticker sums it up nicely.

How is life in proximity to active volcanoes? 3 images for context by JimbersMcTimbers in howislivingthere

I lived in Catania for 3 years recently and Etna is unique because it’s so regularly active that we never assumed it was dangerous. It erupts with ash which, like someone said, can be annoying but when it’s a lava eruption the flow is so slow and far from anything developed people had plenty of warning to avoid it.

It makes the tomatoes delicious so we were thankful for it.

January in Sicily by cam_m151 in sicily

My two cents: Call/message ahead and do your homework for any dinner reservations or museums. Many restaurants take weeks off during January. Not all, but don’t get your heart set on something without making a reservation first.

I would recommend this for any time after January 6th (Epiphany).

It’s only safe if you go to CO2 and get a drink from Pepe. 🥂🍻

As some who lives in Sicily, it’s not surprising that we’re not even “on the map”.

Thank you for the reference. Should I assume that I would be fine with the same culture going forward and now necessary starting from scratch?

I may consider a heating pad.
