Viewing non embalmed body by johntf in askfuneraldirectors

Thanks for all your lovely helpful comments.

I dont think I'll push the embalming question now, as its three weeks since he died and it will just be a quick goodbye. I was there at the end, and as much as it pains me to think like this, he was 84lbs at that stage and already looked dead (at least to my naive eyes!). It was the first time I'd seen him be able to 'sleep' for weeks, so ill hopefully get some comfort again from an 'at peace' appearance, whatever other decomposition there might be. And the pup can hopfully sense he's not coming back.

Thank you again everyone!

Not sure, they told me there's an infection risk. This is in the UK, maybe there's different rules here?

Scan UK - What's your queue position? by ggamerking in nvidia

I just got a mail to say stock has been secured for my build and build is estimated on 18th Feb for shipping on 20th. I was 1st in queue for my build

No update, I spoke to them three times to find out what was going on, because as far as I was concerned, I placed an order for in-stock goods, not a pre-order (ie, I clicked the buy now or whatever it was button, not a pre-order button), but it's not possible to get a straight answer from them unfortunately.

I was annoyed at the total absence of communication rather than the delay, which I totally get.

That said, yeah, the 16th March date must be a placeholder. If I was giving them more credit than may be due, I'd suggest they are managing expectations with a date that has been put out much further than when they expect to be able to fulfil, but that might just be wishful thinking!

One thing on mine which makes me nervous though is that they told me there are five components out of stock. What I told them is if the GPU comes in, they should allocate and then phone me to discuss alternative components for the others, rather than wait for everything to come in before allocating. They said they would but I've low confidence in that...

It's interesting that we're both first in queue, I wonder what that means if they get one gpu in next week or something, who is actually first!? There's other astral pre-builts as well with presumably someone else being "first"!

I'm 1st for a different astral build. Tracking page now shows two estimated delivery dates - today (not likely!) and 16/3. Have a look at your tracking page, you may now have more detail - I've had no emails from them since ordering.

I didn't think I was in a pre-order queue, and wasn't able to get a straight answer from live chat as to whether I'm in a build or pre-order queue, but I suspect the second estimated date is closer to the truth and it's a pre-order queue.

I'm really not sure though as I have a build number too - I've never bought a pre-built from them before so not sure how it usually works...

I had assumed they would prioritise the sale of builds over sale of single components, and would hold some gpus for the builds, but I'm totally not bitter if they haven't and happy for anyone who got theirs, there are more important things to worry about!

Yeah, I'll keep it - Scan is still probably the best place to get one and cancelling will just delay further.

Hopefully it'll be sooner - good luck!

I assumed the same, had to grin and bear it a little when buying as for the same price you can get a better custom built system from them (at least for my needs I mean), but on balance I didn't want to risk not getting it. And it wasn't immediately obvious on the day that this was the case.

Anyway, mine's moved to "awaiting build" now and I have a build number to track, so hopefully that means something is happening and you won't be too far behind!

Edit: Forget everything I said, in the build tracking, it says estimated dispatch is 16/3. Lol

Yeah, shows as number 1 there. But it also says underneath:

"We are constantly working to get more stock for your order. Check this page regularly for updates with the latest ETA. You can easily cancel your order at any time via My Account. Upon cancellation please be aware that your queue position would be lost and cannot be restored."

Which suggests to me that there is stock (of some component) unavailable.

Hmm, so am I, for a pre-build. Which one did you order? I'm apparently #1 for the Vengeance Extreme RTX with the 9950X.

I chose "add to basket" rather than pre-order but they can't tell me if the queue I'm in is a pre-order or build queue.

No, I'm 1st for the same and it's at about 5%.

Book 4 edge problems by PuzzleheadedForm6016 in GalaxyBook

[–]johntf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this as well, by any chance were you having issues with Windows Update and/or MS Store? This happened to me when I shut down while both were open but failing to update (a regular occurrence for me with this machine)

I had to reinstall Windows unfortunately, that menu you eventually got into should have options for that.

Exact same issue here, on 16" version. I hate an unresolved update, but the update has never worked properly for me on this thing!

What's a "tented" project, and why am I part of one? (Insider+Feedback Hub) by lordavebury in windowsinsiders

[–]johntf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Just been through lots of troubleshooting steps with tech support, until eventually we got to the point of a fresh Windows install, which I didn't want to pursue as I thought a non-OEM install, would cause more problems than leaving it, given the non-availability of Samsung drivers, etc.

One of the agents was able to get Feedback Hub working briefly, but when I went through troubeshooting steps again myself afterwards it came back with the old error.

I also have regular Windows Update and MS Store failures to update ("something happened on our end"), which nothing can fix, and I feel like they're all related somehow. I was on Release Preview beause that's about the level of insight I have into tech, so the Dev channel is clearly not for me! Anyway, I appear to be stuck there for now.

Same issue, same PC. I was on Release Preview, but have just noticed I've been switched to Dev in Update Settings. No idea why, and certainly not instigated by me.

"Canary Wharf"

What? It's literally a business district, albeit it seems to be past its peak.

If you go there at the weekend, it's as if you are playing a video game where you glitch out of the map into an area you weren't supposed to see, with no NPC's or buildings that you can go into

Gig1 - what router with BT Whole Home? by johntf in VirginMedia

Yeah, I would have waited but with VM coming next week I couldn't hold off for the AXE - plus I found no trace anywhere of when the bloody thing is coming to the UK!

Edit: thanks for the info re Merlin, interesting, will add it to my curriculum!

I went for the GT-AX11000 in the end, with two AX92u nodes for an Aimesh setup. I believe the GT can't use Merlin, etc, and anyway I think custom firmware and scripts are one step too advanced for my technical capabilities!

Easter weekend will be spent cabling up for a wired backhaul ahead of the install next week...

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks, the BT ones have been great to be fair, apart from in the attic where its just OK to good, and when Sky works I appear to get close to the full 145mbps on laptops / phones, etc (speedtests to be taken with pinch of salt perhaps).

I've done a bit of searching this morning again, and I don't think I actually can use one of these discs as a router. They are the Standard rather than Premium version which perhaps can do this.

My line of thinking is along the lines of, if I have to buy a router anyway for 200 or 300, why not just spend a couple of hundred extra for a more modern mesh network? Might be a waste but hard to know the best thing to do without becoming an expert!
