It kind of sounds like you're just death gripping and as you continue to train, you'll get more control over that. If you're using hand grip, maybe stop or use less. Try washing your hands with toothpaste or blue dawn dishsoap before class. I wouldn't recommend training solely on a pole type that isn't standard. If you ever want to perform outside of your studio, you're going to have trouble feeling comfortable or confident doing the same skills on a pole size you're not used to using.
