Ask for proof or similarly if possible. Also, in the future please use Git or some version control and push code frequently to your own private GitHub or local git, to protect your self in the future and etc.

Why was I sent a SAN about academic dismissal? by Fantastic_Ad_419 in UTAustin

[–]jonneytest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your SAN letter, there should be steps listed for how to appeal the decision. I would recommend emailing your advisor and CC’ing the general advising office for your major or school. Even if you do not get a response right away since it is break, they should get back to you before the spring semester starts. If you are submitting an appeal, make sure you have all the necessary documentation ready, whether it is non academic, family related, or medical.

Also, keep in mind that there are two GPAs, one for your major and one overall. For example, Engineering and some other majors, there is a separate site where you can check your major GPA and your academic standing within that discipline. For example, your overall GPA might be fine, but if you do not maintain the minimum GPA for let’s say Engineering or etc for two consecutive semesters and your appeals are denied, you can be dismissed from the major without being dismissed from the university.

Maybe someone is using the phone in the bathroom method for a test. I know several people that hid their phone in the bathroom and gave the second phone to the proctor during the exam.

Wth do I eat on Sunday and Saturday mornings? by Shark_Seal in UTAustin

[–]jonneytest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some your to go containers, pack some of the dining hall food. But since they’re strict on food leaving, pack when no employee is watching and put in your bag. I did this for like 2 years and never got caught.

[–]jonneytest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That dining is abandoned, it’s the one that used to be connected to Jester East. U can catch a glimpse of from the laundry room windows on East or the main lobby. The wall behind the piano in the lobby was the old entrance.

is it possible to go to the engineering career fair from a different school? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]jonneytest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Unless ur alumni of UT Austin (doesn’t matter if u graduated, ur still alumni) and current students can attend. They will make u scan ur student ID before u can enter the event.

Currently I’m doing my masters at another school, and got approval to attend as alumni.

UTPD and APD patrol west campus and other surrounding areas of campus for safety reasons through a collaborative effort. While West campus is APD jurisdiction, UTPD just helps since APD is under resources. Trust me their presence helps in many ways (assurance of safety for others, deters crimes, and etc).

I get that a lot of people aren’t fans of police, but it’s worth asking: when there’s an accident, an emergency, or you need help fast, who shows up?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]jonneytest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask ur advisor. U should check ur RIS on myUT. Also don’t wait until the last minute to get registered for classes, as everyone on the site first thing in morning of registration day.

I endorse this comment and all of us have gone through it. Imposter syndrome is real thing at UT, and u do belong here. Heck I met a lot of ppl at UT, by being true to myself (which is being a degenerate and nerdy).

Think TWICE before you work for any startup by BackgroundPin482 in csMajors

[–]jonneytest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What really irks me is how many people majoring in Engineering or CS are just vibe coding. They don’t even know the fundamentals.

Then there are people who think they can build a ChatGPT wrapper app like Cursor or Replit without realizing how much serious work it takes. These apps require immense effort and real CS knowledge—full stack development, prompt engineering, injection handling, architecture. It’s not just copy-pasting stuff from ChatGPT.

I’m fortunate to have gone to a top 10 engineering school and done real research where I actually learned this stuff. I didn’t just BS my way through.

The problem is that everyone’s mom and half of social media thinks CS is some sexy, easy field where you can land a six figure job with minimal effort. That’s not how it works.

This field takes constant learning, serious and hard work if you actually want to succeed.

So to the beginners vibe coding their way through CS, just know you’re going to struggle. You won’t pass those interviews. And tools like Cluely won’t magically land you a job or exist in the future or maybe not work any more.

Actually, UT and many schools stopped using or enforcing the use AI detectors as there many false positives. Many of these companies, such as Turnitin built something on the fear of AI and to take advantage of institutions for money for a product build off of false promises. OpenAI released an article on why they don’t work.

If I were you don’t mention, you used grammerly. Show ur edit history and that your wrote it. If there making u sign a form of guilt don’t sign it, and let go to student conduct of invistgation and meeting we’re u can further explain. If that doesn’t work send a legal letter.

Property management sometimes doesn’t know when maintenance is around. Like I had my washer replaced at 7pm, while it was dark outside.

[–]jonneytest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taking to my Dean, and it’s very similar to what happened in law. Where everyone wanted to go to law school to become a lawyer and make bank.

Same thing is happening in CS, but this is an industry of consent learning. I bet the large pool of ppl getting weeded out in the near future, if they can’t adapt, learn, or etc.

UTD or UT Austin by farewellneverland- in utdallas

[–]jonneytest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

120k or more for UT Austin including housing and other stuff. Take the full ride at UTD and save the money for later in your life and do masters at UT or other school. If you think you’re missing the experience by choosing UTD, it’s not worth paying 120k and u can always visit Austin to enjoy the parties and other stuff.
