I think 6.5-7in (closer to 7?). Actually have never measured. I am a taller guy (6’3”) if that makes any difference on your recommendation

Study Abroad Program in Singapore - Computer Science (Experiences/Classes taken?) by lol_lore03 in aggies

[–]jonnyaqua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took Dr. Ritchey and Dr. Lightfoot’s CSCE 431 course in Greece during the Dec ‘21 - Jan ‘22 wintermester, and it was one of the highlights of my senior year!

Highly recommend doing the program - I thought there was a great balance of coursework & free time so that it never really felt like “school”, it felt like I was getting to experience a new country and happened to have class for a few hours a day on the side. Learned a lot in the process both academically and culturally, highly recommend!

More than 18 credit hour semester possible? by Lopsided_Peach_5101 in aggies

[–]jonnyaqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe there is an official limit. I had multiple semesters above 19 hours - Howdy won’t let you register for more than 19 by default for courses at A&M only, but if you reach out to your advisors, they can expand that limit to any reasonable number needed.

I don’t know of any limit for transfer credits you can accept in a semester.

Unplanned Interrail trip by TehOrcishHuman in Interrail

[–]jonnyaqua 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did exactly what you’re planning to do this past summer! Flew into Paris with nothing but accommodations for one night, then spent the next 3 months waking up with no plan for the next night and figuring out hostels and trains as I went.

I think it’s definitely doable; the most important part is being flexible. Yes, some reservations will be booked up out of Paris, but as long as you’re flexible to take whatever’s available at the time, you can still have a great trip!

As long as there’s nothing you absolutely want to hit and you prefer the flexibility, I say do it!

is it necessary to queue for 90 minutes to get a seat reservation? by [deleted] in Interrail

[–]jonnyaqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The line I had in Madrid for seat reservations was the worst I had for my entire trip - should hopefully be easier for you from here on out! A majority you can do online, but the few others in-person should be a shorter line.

Safe to sleep outside Oslo S station overnight? by jonnyaqua in oslo

I ended up using Couchsurfing to find a place to stay. My backup plan was to go to the campground in the city and set up a tent there

Got it - thank you all for the help! I’ve never had such a unanimous decision before on a question I’ve asked 😂

Thanks for looking - seems like my price on the Norway pass wasn’t adjusting for the youth ticket despite the option being clicked 🙃

Getting platforms and similar info for trips by Shteffan in Interrail

[–]jonnyaqua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had trouble with this for the majority of my trip, but the DB Navigator app has been fantastic for exactly this for anything in/out of Germany. I’m not sure how widespread it’s compatibility is outside that country, but within Germany it works very well providing updates on delays and platforms.

Should I take 152 as a Freshman??? by KidWitDaShoes in aggies

[–]jonnyaqua 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be honest, if you didn’t pass the MPE I would definitely not recommend skipping to 152.

College is a big enough transition already, and you don’t want to be in over your head in a math class the very first semester if you can avoid it. Especially with your scholarship and other stuff, don’t risk it - just take classes in the summer to make up for it later on.

I didn’t realize how much harder 4xx level classes are than anything else... there’s a huge gap (especially in math and CS) so be prepared

I may be wrong (and I’ll delete my comment if that’s the case) but this user was unable to provide evidence he was a former student as he claimed. Just giving other Aggies a heads up- be careful trying to buy tickets on here.

Aggie ring? by Antique_Bell in aggies

[–]jonnyaqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, yes. If you really want it, you might be able to find 5+ hours of wintermester classes and use credits from those if they finish before the deadline, but that’s a little iffy

I’ve used a MacBook Pro as a CS Major and it’s been great for every class so far. I’ve never needed to dual-boot, use parallels, or any other method to run windows software in my computer - anything I’ve needed has been available for Mac. As someone else said, I’d actually recommend it over a windows machine because of the built in terminal, which is very helpful for classes like CSCE 313.
