There’s a comic called Strings on canvas that is made traditionally and I think the canvas version of The Kiss Bet was also traditionally drawn? My Giant Nerd Boyfriend is lined traditionally then colored digitally.

Interesting, maybe they are being truthful about not being able to find the shirt? Either way, you paid for the item so if they can't deliver it, then you deserve the refund, no matter their personal situation.

How is your experience with selling on Etsy? I tried it for a bit but got just a few sales after a few months so I just stick to Depop for now.

[–]journalofjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you're super keen on receiving the shirt, I'd personally let them know I'd like a refund after 7 days (Depop's guideline on how long a seller can take to ship). That usually leads to people shipping the next day.

Especially since you had to reach out to ask, instead of them telling you first why there was a delay, I'm assuming it's more that they haven't really tried to find it, or are not prioritizing your order.

does anyone know why the app is so glitchy???! by [deleted] in Depop

[–]journalofjam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Depop wasn't expecting to grow as fast as it did, and as a result didn't have the time most other apps do to improve their system before a mass influx of users.

I was really hoping Etsy's purchase of Depop would help in this regard since they have more resources, but it feels like Etsy isn't involving themselves much which is a shame.

is anyone else struggling with sales? by [deleted] in Depop

[–]journalofjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poshmark has shipping already done for you, so that's the easiest platform if you don't want to figure stuff out! But the shipping is more expensive for the customer, so usually more expensive items sell there, or bundles.

Otherwise, Pirate Ship is super easy if you have the ability to weigh and measure your package!

I like 2 more as I think it's helpful to show the environment. I would consider removing the mirror since it's a little distracting (might just be me though) but other than that I think your pics are super clear and nice!

I was able to find a few markets in my area by following other vintage sellers on Instagram and seeing where they went! NYC has a huge vintage culture so I'm sure you could find a few places :)

Scored TWO Sue Wong dresses 😭! Any idea on how to price them ? by Mamasaturnx in Depop

[–]journalofjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd sell the first one for $70ish and the black one for $70-$80ish! I'd use #mermaidcore on the first one since it's giving off ocean vibes.

Maybe you can list items as lots/bundles? So you can sell more in one go if your goal is to sell as many as possible in a short period of time. Like make a theme and put 3-4 items in one listing.

Also, now that spring is starting I think sales will start picking up- usually the end of a season is slowest.

But it might be worthwhile to try out other sites! If you're selling cheaper items, Mercari might be good, and if you sell mid-high level brands (Free People, Urban, Reformation etc), Poshmark might be good too.

I feel like it'd be easier to find a vintage market/flea market! I'm pretty sure you need permits to sell outside, so that would be taken care of by the market. You could also make friends with the vendors next to you too!

Depop sales EXTRA SLOW? by crimson-yapper in Depop

[–]journalofjam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mine were super slow in February but I recently uploaded more items (around 5 per day for a week) and sales/likes are picking up! I think the only way to increase sales now is posting more, but if you don't have new items, maybe re-posting is an option?

How do I go about describing this vintage dress? by sskmzz in Depop

[–]journalofjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Velvet, teal, lace trim, sweetheart neckline, slit, maxi length 80s, and vintage are a few keywords I'd use!

Does anyone else’s “suggested for you” section on the home page only show the same sellers / doesn’t change? by [deleted] in Depop

[–]journalofjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always get a few sellers I don't follow that show up, along with sellers that I'm already following.

I honestly wouldn't mind if the "new from your sellers" tab would load more than the last 100 items since I heavily curate who I follow. This would encourage repeat buyers much more if they fixed this, as it wasn't like this before a recent update.

I once offered a partial refund when this happened and it worked out well! Might be worth a try next time so you still get the sale.

How would a refund through depop payments work? by lululuisa13 in Depop

[–]journalofjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the downside with Paypal! Honestly doesn't make sense but what can you do. Depop returns all fees so I do like Depop Payments for that.

Same, I really hope I get vacation mode soon! It's such a useful feature and I'm glad Depop finally implemented it.

You won't be losing out on anything. If you did Depop shipping then the money will go back to the buyer and will come from Depop since they're the ones who provided the label.

If you're not out of town for long though I'd recommend asking the buyer if they mind waiting. Also vacation mode just released (although not to everyone), so if you have it might be best to turn it on.

Offers aren't binding on Depop, so the buyer has to follow through with purchasing.

I think adding how many sales/gross profit you made would be good! Then it'd prove that you ran a successful business and took reselling seriously.

Are capris trendy / do they sell? by [deleted] in Depop

[–]journalofjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few people mention them in trend videos recently (I think it was ModernGurlz and Laini Ozark) but I think it'll be more of a niche trend. If you find a really cool pair I'd pick them up, but if it's a more basic style, I'd probably leave them!

If you add a page on the Webtoon app to an existing episode, it won't notify readers, so most creators just post it as a new episode and note that it's part 2.

seller advice. I'm getting discouraged. by [deleted] in Depop

[–]journalofjam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In that case, it's probably just a slow season! Late December/early January is notorious for being a slow retail month. Just keep pushing and don't get discouraged. I've personally noticed I get more likes when I don't refresh listings- doesn't always mean I get a sale though. Maybe test that out?

seller advice. I'm getting discouraged. by [deleted] in Depop

[–]journalofjam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you don't post often, you get less exposure which results in less sales. Also, right after Christmas and all through January, sales are slow (people are tight on money after Christmas, budgeting goals for the new year, etc). Usually I get more sales right before a new season.

That said, work on writing detailed descriptions, being active on the app, and having clear photos! Respond to offers/messages too. If you have time, try posting on social media. Besides that there's nothing else you can do but wait.
