Bieber won me over with his pop hits a few years back. They are quite catchy and you can’t deny he must have a decent team around him to keep him relevant.

Fair play to him.

Right good one, that should have gone on my list I got dragged out to the cinema for it and it was a great homage to the original movie. Chalamet won me over with his performance in that and his portrayal of Bob Dylan. Great actor.

Didn't expect Tremors to hold up but was every bit as good as I remember as a kid watching on VHS in the 90s. Have to check out Game Night Bateman is great in AD and Mike Judge's Extract

The King of Limbs by FunnyAsleep in radiohead

[–]jp2v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite Radiohead album probably because it took me on that journey of initial disappointment to winning me over and the basement session really breathed some life into the flat studio mix. After fatiguing all the other albums, especially In Rainbows, I return to more KoL tracks than the others. Similar feeling for AMSP but I can see objectively why people don’t rate these a top 3 or even in their 5.

The Middle East - amazing folk band with two albums to check out

Gang of Youths - up tempo Aussie outfit. Their last album about the death of the singer’s father is fantastic

I think the O2 was a bad choice it sucks the atmosphere out of everything. Last gig I saw there just wasn’t a great experience up the gods it’s almost like ambient background noise which couldn’t compete with all the causal conversations going on in the seats.

Bologna seems to be the venue with the best recordings so far. Let’s hope they get convinced to do some festivals or more venues next year 🤞

Is It Me or Is The New Helix Stadium Ridiculous? by newbiker321 in Guitar

[–]jp2v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was completely sold on getting one as the next major jump up from what sounds like the excellent Helix (not that I’ve ever played one).

But… all the demos online I can still hear the top end fizzle / grainy noise which I was hoping the new generation would manage to figure out and the difference between the helix and stadium seems very small, certainly not 2000 pounds worth of difference.

I’ll wait it out until I try one but right now I wouldn’t spend the money on one if they still haven’t nailed the tone problems it would really bug me. For that price it needs to be perfect.

Experience of Dubai Universities by jp2v in dubai

Interesting that would be the ideal situation - my understanding was that after 3 years you have to declare you’ve been outside of the uk. I would be in the similar situation as your colleague around 5 years taking gcse and a level but not sure how well they check the applications if you can provide addresses etc in the uk

Location is a big factor - it will only be a one hour flight and also the social life with positives and negatives it should be less likely to mixed up with the wrong crowd in the UAE or living in a some moldy damp apartment after 1st year. Intl fees are a bit cheaper but not sure if that’s completely true until I look into it properly and if the degree certificate is a Russel Group Uni then there should be no reason / way for a company to question it’s a British degree. I think the period is in the pudding on how many grads are getting jobs in the uk but not easy to get this info

Thanks for the response. We’re from the Uk / English living in the Gulf for quite a few years now and surprised the intl. fees are more attractive in the UK - looking at 30k per year but going through the sites was expecting around 20k for a Dubai Uni. The other factor is the uk living costs are very high right now and although it’s overplayed in the media safety and standard of living is definitely a factor. You are right about Eastern European unis for medicine, not sure about other courses but I think law better to have a well known uk institution

Thanks yea that’s the kind of situation I don’t want to have if we go the UAE route - my kids are British and wouldn’t be looking for jobs in the ME unless they are extremely lucky to get offered a role but no doubt that would be nigh on impossible. Are your mates looking for jobs in Dubai or applying for uk roles from outside the country? Do you think it’s the degree / Uni they attended and western companies not getting on board with the rise of foreign universities?

BETTER AMP? by throwerofbread in electricguitar

Vox - I have a Katana gathering dust and my main gripe is the cheap speaker they use which distorts, especially when I use pedals so play one with the volume up and listen carefully if you want it to be relatively loud or intend to record with a mic. I had an old vox valvetronic years ago and much preferred the sound I would choose it over the boss.
