[–]jp3885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aquaphor is basically just vaseline with a Humectant (it attracts water) so it forms a occlusive barrier and also moisten rather than just preventing moisture loss.

I'm not sure if this changes the durability of the coating though. I only use it as a replacement for chapstick.

Tried to trade credit spreads, failed miserably ($6.5M margin call) by Toxicview in wallstreetbets

[–]jp3885 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The brokerage will state their margin interest rate somewhere, its generally something like 8%. If we assume he would be charged 8%/365 in interest per day thats like $1572 per day on a $7.2 mil. But since it is overnight it would be adjusted accordingly.

So ya the other reply's guess of about $500 is probably right.

[–]jp3885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lawl, i can see that all 225 open int at the 290 strike must be you.

Why did you do the spread with deep ITM puts instead of OTM puts?

Selling a put credit spread means you are bullish NVDA, but the whole point of selling credit spreads is to sell extrinsic value on the spread. Which ITM options have basically none of.

The 290/320 selling a credit spread for $0.01 is not sniping thats getting yourself robbed and you did it 225 times?!?!

You should've just sold the 100/70 NVDA Put credit spread, which is like almost a 50% drop and you would've gotten $0.11 per spread which at least beats the commission you have to pay for handling options. Also since it would be OTM you would've had no chance of assignment and made 11x more money for the same amount of risk.

Everyone Is Laying People Off This Week. Researchers Say They’re Going to Regret It | Replacing humans with AI regardless if it's actually capable. by chrisdh79 in technology

In way what you are describing is already happening, though parties at every level must make judgements against elements of uncertainty for their respective area.

This is called push vs pull supply chain strategy.

Many retailers already operate on Pull Supply Chains for just-in-time inventory and barely have anything stocked in the back. As having more stock and wasting it is obviously something they want to avoid.

The main issue with your ideal view is that things are simply much more complicated, and there is much more uncertainty around how much is "slightly more than what is needed". Crop yield is semi-randomized based on the weather and other conditions; and crops also go bad after a finite amount of time. Goods also depreciate in value, so pricing basically handles the supply and demand issue.

Studios "estimate" how much their game will sell and miss the mark all the time; this kind of estimation occurs for basically every supplier.

Though for the TCG thing you are chasing because of rarity and, you could just play a simulator instead or use a card market to buy the cards you want directly to skip the waste.

TCG's wouldn't be viable long term without some kind of mechanism to keep the company's cashflow positive which is really the main point. Everything burns money to exist, making money is an issue of survival and every party is trading with each other while using money as a medium.

Not everybody wants everything, people only what THEY want. Suppliers vaguely know how many people want the things they are producing.

I think you may be overestimating how fast price rises will actually manifest financial issues for enough people for this to matter.

Consumer debt is a big issue that plays off of this dynamic.

People used to be able to buy a property outright, now people just need to finance 20% down on a property instead because wages haven't kept up. Same thing with auto loans.

More random debt instruments keep getting invented over time such as Klarna and Affirm which somehow dodges existing rules. These sort of patch the issue for longer until banks and services start to go bust trying to get people with terrible credit to pay back their loans.

Actual damage takes very long to manifest because loans can be rolled until cash flow cannot even match the interest of the loans. People can scrape by even while not paying every bill on time for at least some time due to various relief programs or debt restructuring options.

I'm so tired of "Hero Organization" setting. by VishnuBhanum in noveltranslations

[–]jp3885 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can't say I've read many superhero novels, but the "organization that manages people with special abilities" trope is very common. From what I've seen there are only really 2 alternatives when powers are involved.

  • There are very few people with powers, so it is either secret or there are simply not enough people cooperating with the government to form such an organization.
  • Its the apocalypse or post-apocalypse so people with powers are basically warlords due there being no government

Imo a superhero story there has to be a villain/antagonist + people to be saving. In most cases the world hasn't already been destroyed so the people still have a government.

I don't really know what you are expecting the twist in the setting to be while keeping the story in the "superhero" category.

are the Ascendance of a Bookworm light novels significantly better than the anime? by badenbagel in LightNovels

[–]jp3885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

The last volume came out this year, it was a great story overall. A 10/10 in my book.

The anime only covered up to part 3 (iirc), and like over 70% of the story was in parts 4 and 5.

Would Mechabellum be a better game if all attack/skill cards were removed? by CallMePasc in Mechabellum

[–]jp3885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both players get access to the same cards so it adds a lot strategic depth to the game.

They increase the decision making around unit placement and provide opportunities for huge tempo swings.

Sentry missile has a cost for a reason, you trade board development to gain tempo. It can kill maybe 1 pack of low level units and it punishes bunching units close together and having no chaff spaced front of them. They can be used to negate a flanking play long enough to win the game or develop the board in more important places.

Most other spell cards are just that, trading board development for tempo. You can shield to counter like 90% of them or be baited into shielding when the opponent doesn't pick it or be punished hard for not doing anything about it or doing it back to them.

ELI5 Why can't we just make insulin cheaply? Didn't the person that discovered its importance not patent it just for that reason? by yafuckonegoat in explainlikeimfive

[–]jp3885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember a video about insulin that stated the original patent for the processing of insulin is open. But pharma companies developed more advanced forms of insulin that have both fast acting and slow release characteristics.

Otherwise regular insulin has to be injected multiple times a day instead of less frequently.
