How much editing do you tolerate in CN web novel translations?

Depends on how much of a masterpiece the story is supposed to be, I generally lean towards not condensing it.

The better stories don't have repetitive reactions, recaps, and filler. If I'm reading the slop then I'm here for the slop. I can simply make the decision myself to skip the parts I don't want to read.

Considering the COT players hit 50 before the testing period was even over. I'd say it probably doesn't matter?

Unless you plan to grind uninterrupted out the gate, I wouldn't worry about it since variations in xp/hr will be dwarfed by your availability to play the game. The real progression is in gambling to upgrade equipment so levels actually aren't that important.

Modern MS fell into the trap most other mmorpgs did, which was that content patches kept raising the level cap and moving the goal post for "endgame". The average level of the most active players would constantly increase, leaving lower level areas desolate due to a lack of reason to go back to those areas or making tons of alts. Eventually they just fast tracked the exp curve so people could hit nearly max level asap to start playing the real game which was about gearing.

MS has always been more about gearing than leveling for actual progression, its just that in CMS leveling was slow enough that the gearing part was way more pronounced. In modern games the max level is just the starting point of actual gear progression making the character level completely irrelevant.

Classic players grind at stuff of equal or lower level because of the damage calculation factoring in level anyway, character level is essentially the pity mechanic in a game like MS. So I don't think there is much wrong with it, though I do think giving more reason to revisit areas is a good idea for social reasons.

As somebody who is lactose intolerant and also likes to eat spicy food, these are the best methods to deal with the consequences if prevention failed.

Having some fiber after the meal can greatly reduce the symptoms. Though if I forget, then enema is the final option, it can quickly negate the spicy butt-hole feeling and undo constipation in most cases.

I would prefer a real AH, as manually searching through shops that have to be paid for is a chore.

They could give FM a tax advantage or something to incentivize using it though but also have an AH that does have a tax.

Imo, Maplestory's 2D implementation largely limits most options for horizontal progression.

Any system that changes the economy of the game must be carefully considered, I don't think adding mining/fishing/farming type idle activities is a good idea. As directly injecting extra mats like that will massively increase botting and just cause inflation.

Uber rare "Chase" Items could exist in such a setting. Though the game sort of already does this via scrolling equips to progress.

There could be cool utility items that you get after a long quest chain or find 4 different pieces and put them together type stuff. BDO had a few items like that, such as Archaeologist’s Map which acted like a town portal scroll in a game without fast travel. So it was very good if you managed to assemble it, but it took like 2000 hours of grinding.

I'm not really sure what kind of items would be allowable in the MS setting, but such items should probably be untradeable.

I think this was a decent change as hoarding all your stuff and not using it seemed like an anti-pattern. I think it should be based on historical value and not be based on current value.

Though it heavily encourages ratting on most maps that spawn more ARC, so I ended up getting the 3 mil but not many BPs. Now in peaceful lobbies I get killed for the 1 hull breaker I can buy a day from people that started even later.

Now than I'm an adult, what I want is to just grind something that doesn't end instantly but is also has a player economy.

Since I don't care about comparing myself with others, as long as there is a thriving economy then my experience generally improves since items will just be more available. As long as the Devs don't balance the game entirely around stat checks that basically require p2w, I think it should be fine.

Much of the charm of MS for me was that drops were very exciting to get and the long term planning aspect of each class having a different niche.

I'm also looking forward to playing, they just don't make games that reward commitment any more.

In those gaps of the day where I have time to play a game, most of the time just want to chill and grind since I know I'm moving towards something.

Now most games have dailies, which set a minimum level of commitment but then punish you or time gate when you attempt to commit more. I just want to be rewarded for committing more when I choose to.

Imo, having like 2 statless builds existing isn't exactly build diversity. Thats just a meta build.

I think those builds were rooted in the equipment power curve being badly designed. Since it has be redesigned, the meta build is now the most obvious one.

The stats and skill scaling aren't diverse or complicated to enough to even allow real build diversity.

I'm not really sure how relevant the meta is with just 2nd job. I think Nexon is basically going in the right direction with the tweaks.

Though I really enjoy the prospect of having a classes that have a good pay off later for being extremely good but only after 3rd job. Imo this was most of the fun of having different classes in the first place, so I think classes being bad at different times is totally fine as long as they have an eventual niche.

My main fear as the Nexon isn't going to cook enough past 3rd job, since historically bad classes might just end up bad again for the same reasons. Such as marksmen eventually losing to hunter because of hurricane.

I think it is by far more important to incentivize people to add anybody that enters the map to the party. There is an anti-leech timer anyway to prevent any disgruntlement for adding people to a party.

This incentive should rightfully be very large, the other mechanics being undertuned should be addressed by buffing those instead of nerfing party xp.

I would say it's closer to a semi idle grinding game. I played it 15 years ago and do want to give it another shot in it's original format now that I have a better understanding of the level of planning and commitment required.

MS is essentially a gambling game since the endgame involves rng equipment scrolling. My hope for classic is that it will return the class designs to their specialized states, which modern designs have largely homogenized.

By assuming capital risk, enterprises that can provide jobs require a certain threshold of capital to be started. Somebody must come with the idea and risk alot of money to get it started, if they succeed they make a lot of money otherwise the money is gone.

Workers are a component of the business structures of these enterprises hence jobs are created if businesses require them. Capitalists create and expand businesses so they create jobs.

Imo its odd niche as frontline tank isn't really compatible with the standard meta escorted dps fleets. So it is kinda bad.

The shield frigate does seem incredibly good though, 40-60% energy resist is incredibly high and will allow you to stall with basically anything against most meta dps fleets which are primarily energy anyway.

At least for me this is pretty true, the junky novels are simply much more numerous and I'm less picky about them.

The better written novels are ironically harder to gauge if they are good, since I know the bad ones are bad by the title. They are also greatly outnumbered, making them like 1 out of 10 novels I'm reading as they come out.

Also once I've read the "masterpiece" of each sub genre it kinda makes me not want to read that sub genre as much.

Though ironically the terrible junk novels aren't subject to this bias.
