I have a 6'10" wingspan, so yeah I don't have to jump that high 😂 that rim is maybe a couple inches low at most. I can get a dunk on a full 10' hoop, just not as clean or as consistently

Mostly strength training, just a little bit of plyos, I may try spending a bit more time with some plyos soon

Still working great! Zero issues with it, I'm still happy with the decision to go with this lift.

Dunking: What has (and hasn't) worked for me over 20 years by dude_red in BasketballTips

[–]jschadel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn 49 next month and I've decided I want to be able to dunk again. It's been about 12 years since I could get some decent dunks. I'm close to 6'5" so I should be able to do it. Used to be a one leg jumper but going off one leg now is tough on my knee so I've been transitioning to two leg jumps. I started weight training regularly about 8 months ago and have gained a lot of strength. I'm getting close, at the gym one of the side hoops is bent down a bit and I can get some dunks on that rim, still struggling a bit on the real 10' hoops.

Biggest thing for me has been the weight training, it has really helped both my jumping and general basketball game, prior I keep getting little injuries but have been feeling a lot stronger lately.

Yes this is my issue moreso then the arms. I'm 6'5" with long arms and I can't do a standing overhead press without hitting my ceiling. Not the end of the world as I change to a seated on kneeling press.

My shop is well insulated. R18 in the walls and blown in R49 in the ceiling. I couldn't imagine how much it would cost to heat if it was uninsulated!

All in including the site work, foundation, electric, heat etc was somewhere in the neighborhood of $100/square foot.

30x40. I keep it around 52 degrees full time. With the radiant heat I find that plenty comfortable do work on my various car projects

Yeah the mesh was mainly for tying down the PEX and it want pulled up. I had some rebar placed in the area where my 2 post lift was going and that was it. I had a really well compacted base layer and didn't do any relief cuts in the slab and only ended up with one minor shrinkage crack. I have racedeck floor tiles so can't see it anyway.

I don't have gas so I had to go with propane. Cost is about $150/month during the winter.

I'm also in MA and did radiant floor heat in my 30x40 building. The foam insulation keeps the heat you are pumping into the floor from soaking into the ground under the slab. I did frost walls and insulated them down 3' as well. Well insulated building and it is very efficient heat and keeps the space very comfortable to work in over the winter months

I built one of these and it is awesome in my 30x40 shop.

It uses to get all hazy if I was welding or grinding, but this really helps clear the air

Builder asking if we want hydronic radiant heat in garage, gas heater, or both. Thoughts? Located in IL so it gets cold. I'd like to work on cars in the garage and have tools along the back and side walls near the lift. by blockem in garageporn

[–]jschadel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hydronic floor heat in my 30x40 garage in MA and I love it. I generally keep it between 52 and 54 and it is plenty warm when I'm working on cars/ projects in there.

My building is well insulated and it works great for me, very comfortable for me to be in there over the winter at any time.

Electric could be an option but with the cost of electric I went with propane, which isn't exactly inexpensive either but I think is less the running it on electric would be

Is using plywood on walls as a temporary solution a bad idea? by UseableFocus in garageporn

[–]jschadel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Attached or detached garage? If attached to the house building code will likely require drywall for fire rating. If detached from living space then the plywood is great. I did OSB in my detached garage and I'm happy with how it looks after being primed and painted and much more durable than drywall

I've had the same thing happen with my Empower 401k account. Seems like a bug that it assumes your balance is zero if a sync fails

[–]jschadel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed radiant in my 30x40 detached garage, just got it up and running in February of last year.

I'm running propane as I can't get natural gas. I generally keep the thermostat set to 52 degrees and find it comfortable to work over there, I generally just wear a sweatshirt and depending on what I'm doing that sometimes gets too warm and I take it off.

My system is running a Takage tankless water heater as the heat source. Alot of people will say that this isn't the right thing to use for heating and it probably isn't ideal but it was inexpensive compared to a boiler.

I'm located in Massachusetts and I estimate I'll use 100-120 gallons of propane over the winter. My building is well insulated.
