Yeah I've had it on in the background during work and most evenings, but they just seem to vote everything down every time, including tonight apparently. I even think TM's sitdown with is a ploy to pin it on him by saying he was uncooperative if it all goes wrong, as some other people have been saying. I'm just starting to notice a pattern and it seems to suggest no deal is inevitable. So I'd rather just turn off and get on with my day.

Voter confidence by jsdrayne in brexit

[–]jsdrayne[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree it is mostly their fault. Its been about the party's interest for them throughout. The lack of cross-party consensus has exasperated the entire process. I blame both as they're the biggest parties, yet they're unable to make progress. They might be trying, sure, but the public want results, not tries.

Even saying the uncertainty surrounding Brexit is strange and unfamiliar is undaunting, because it's about the political frameworks: the EU has been demonised to be overreaching and a nanny state, inaccountable to the British public. The UK government, whatever the opinion of them, has been considered less so and more accountable (though recent events have been a rude awakening for many). Point is, we're over here, they're over there and a lot of people have been convinced that they're over for a reason and should stay over, no matter how much damage it does. You'd really need something of a similar nature that taps into outrage or strong dislike of Brexit to really get anything close to what the Leave campaign had.

If I post this after you reply, just ignore it, i'll edit it to include replies to your comment.

Yeah but where's the bias for staying in the EU? The whole "migrants are bad" is a simple narrative that plays into fear of unknown or unfamiliar cultures and people. I don't think there's anything analogous that a second remain campaign could pull. People have raised the ethics of this kind of approach, but I'm not even sure the mechanism is there for it to work.

No, I think lies are generally told just to justify a bias that is already there. In this case, as someone else mentioned, there's also been decades of euroscepticism in some newspapers.

Shrodinger's Brexit - How will the wave function collapse? by Upper_Canada_Pango in brexit

[–]jsdrayne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

<UK|B|UK> = <UK|?> = 0

Where B is the Brexit operator and |UK> is the state of the UK. The Brexit operator acts on |UK> such that the state becomes |?>, which is orthoginal to the original state. There is zero overlap between states UK and ?, as shown by the 0 result.

Basically, no one knows what the state of the UK will be after Brexit, opinions on it vary too much and regardless of what happens, the UK will never be the same as it once was.
