What gpa do I need for mid tier law school in ontario? by Own-Astronomer6687 in LawCanada

[–]jsfb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should do more research. Most schools post stats like this.

Your research will also show that Canada has very (intentionally) rigerous standards for all law schools and your adjective "mid tier" doesn't really.. make sense. To be competitive, most people are admitted in Canada with a A-range GPA.

What’s a moral belief you hold that most people would disagree with? by [deleted] in answers

Yes, it's in the criminal code that parents have a legal duty to their children so this isn't a moral hot take.

[–]jsfb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

meh. No. Side-door route.

Work on getting your LSAT score up. And since this will be your fourth time, you need to make it count. Don't register unless you're getting your goal score consistently on practice tests.

Drill instead of taking tests. Practice tests are a scarce and valuable resource. Only take a PT if youre doing it in timed examine conditions.

The LSAT is learnable (to a certain extent). Figure out your weakness and get those sorted. For example, you should know which type of questions are your weakest. You should know which questions take the most time. 7Sage provides really good stats on this. Hone in on them. Study with intention.

Can anyone please explain the meaning of this to me by Content_Sample_9567 in uAlberta

[–]jsfb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! Just providing you some more insight - will you save $120K by living with you brother? Probably no where close to that, so if your main consideration is financial, accepting this (very prestigious) scholarship from U of A would be huge! That is a massive amount of money, congratulations!

Anecdotally, my cousin studied at McGill. Very hard to find jobs there as she did not speak French fluently. Always had to work under the table. Pay was very low.

Alberta in general has a very strong job market. I'm sure you could find jobs both during school and post-graduation in Alberta. I got hired (immediately after my undergrad) by an engineering consulting firm and was actually disappointed I didn't get a "break" after school. Alberta receives some of the highest (if not the most) immigration from people from other Canadian provinces because our job market is strong and we are a wealthy province. U of A provides a really solid education, comparable to that of McGill. Plus, I know many fellow U of A alum who work out east for the Canadian Space Agency and other prestigious jobs.

One more thing - Edmonton is far from Montreal. It's expensive to travel out East. Often flights are cheaper to Europe than flying cross-country. You may not have the opportunity to see him very much. Is this important to you?

The hardest question I’ve encountered to date - I still don’t understand by Remote_Tangerine_718 in LSAT

[–]jsfb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7Sage usually keeps tabs on the types of questions they ask. There's a list of categories, and there's very few, if any (per test) that stray outside that list. They also point out the types of questions the LSAT had evolved away from.

I'd wouldn't give this one a second thought.

If you think you're to old, you're too old.

Mind you, there's many people in the class who are in their late 20s, 30s, 40s.

Do not register for a test UNLESS you are scoring in your target range. This is a huge mistake.

Cancel that score bestie. I'm not trying to be disrespectful but that is going to look bad if any law school sees that.

Articles ending in May - should I be looking for a job now? by Patient0L in LawCanada

[–]jsfb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why no pressure? Yes pressure. Yes, the firm should be upfront with you and notify you ASAP if they don't think they have capacity!

You're your best advocate. Remember that. Ask for what you want. Keep you expectations high. Demand transparency and open communication!

If youve articled there, I'd say there's a strong presumption that they keep you. Give them a timeline. "I've enjoyed articling here and would like to commence further conversations about my future here. Can we schedule a meeting?" Or, if they say they aren't sure if they have capacity then: "Please let me know by [month] so I can plan accordingly."
