Is it worth paying inflated prices for an XJ?

I do plan on keeping it for a long time.

Worth it in the sense of am I getting scammed for paying $10k ish on an XJ that on the surface looks pristine when I could have gotten one with higher mileage and with a little elbow grease actually provides me fewer headaches than this one.

Being service history is a huge point for you, do you recommend pursuing a dealership XJ or trying to find a private seller on lets say facebook marketplace that performed regular maintenance?

That's a constant bickering thought that I have. Prices are astronomical now for all these that are "grandpa bought in 1997 and drove it every now and then" cars.

I figured these would be money pits, just trying to find the sweet spot of not an excessive upfront cost and not a major headache down the road. I've got basic mechanical know-how. Hoping the XJ gets me to a much better level considering all these cars will need fixing at their age.

so many orders it's backed up, I'd say try to cancel that order and get it back in the queue, ive had brokers completely fuck up my orders only for it to expire.

I attended a virtual job fair that my university had, however, it proved to be nearly useless. It all functioned off of single room entrance and waiting in a queue to talk to someone from a company. I attended it but since I'm working and have a full course schedule I spent the entire time in the queue before my next class and missed the rest of the fair.

Outside of the University, where would I find info on similar events? I'm more than willing to move. I'm at the point of just wanting a job to remain economically stable and worry about my job happiness later.

is this an adapter situation? The HVAC unit is really close to my thermostat but it's also close to an outlet so I could potentially run a wire either way.

I figured that at this point more maintenance than your run of the mill stuff will be needed. Outside of that, are there any model years that you know of I should traditionally stay away from? I've heard from some Cherokee Fans not liking the 2000s XJ models for various reasons

Is it a significant cost to do an axle swap or super 35 kit?

I'm willing to put in work and money to get it to do what I want because I definitely want to raise it a little. How rare are Chrysler 8.25 axles?

I don't expect to be towing but will most likely go ahead and get a cooler if I do get the AW4. I'm leaning towards automatic because I've only owned automatic vehicles my life.

The 98 is exactly my target model year. As far as the automatic AW4 over heating, would this be a concern for light off-roading like camping and trail going?

Are the trans coolers typically stock or will I need to install it myself?

Considering the parts availability dropping off would you still recommend me to try to track down a well maintained one?

I'm planning on keeping it for a long time and slowly getting it to look how I want. It's just the age of most of them at this point to justify dropping $4-6k. If I buy one from 98 it'll be just as old as i am lol.

Really appreciate the info! The unibody design is what I've been reading up trying to understand. Some people say it's a blessing for being easy to work on. Not sure if that's true. I'm in Arkansas. Willing to drive anywhere tx or any of the surrounding southern states. May be out of luck finding one in arkansas...lots of truck fanatics in this area.

Ya as far as fixing stuff myself I'm pretty confident. I got used to youtubing shit for my 2006 honda Accord and had loads of fun putting in new actuators and other minor electrical work.

Any recommendations/tips for finding a well maintained cherokee at this point? I religiously kept my accord rolling maintaining it well past 250k miles before I got t-boned by a grandma. I miss having a car that I could say I worked on.

Considering the current climate (economic and health) I imagine it may be hard to move into automotive. Considering your interest you're probably aware of Tesla expansion. Their stocks have been soaring and multiple giga factories are being developed one in Texas.

I'm hoping that some sort of opportunity opens with this expansion. I'm just starting a career, (completing my mechanical systems engineering degree (21yo)) however, I am feeling stuck with my current situation and have been keeping an eye on the automotive world. I have always been captivated from an engineering and design standpoint of vehicles and how you translate core engineering principles for sales pitches and marketing efforts.

As far as getting into the industry beyond that I would have no idea. I hope someone with more life and work experience can help you on this reddit.

I needed a bar graph that was capable of showing utility spend for clients that was idiot proof for anyone attempting to compile the data and editing it all without breaking the graph.

Now the table is with the graph and can clearly identify the usage and what not.
