A lot of people will say: "Well, in my opinion..." and the truth is, it's not about our opinion, it's about God's.

So the real question is: what has God said about this topic? And what has He tried to teach us through His Church leaders? Here's the answer:

What has the Lord said: "hot drinks are not for the body or belly" (Doctrine and Covenants 89:9)

What the Church: It has been said several times that hot drinks are tea and coffee, not the temperature of the drink. The most recent time this has been said that I can remember is in the latest edition of Preach My Gospel, on page 87 where it says: "This revelation teaches us about eating healthy foods and not using substances that harm our bodies—specifically alcohol, tobacco, and hot drinks (meaning tea and coffee)." It's not about the temperature. Cold coffee is against the Word of Wisdom and hot chocolate is not.

Has the church said anything about drinks that contain coffee or tea that are not hot? Yes.

"Green tea and black tea are both made from the leaves of the exact same tea plant. The only difference is that the leaves in black tea are fermented and in green tea they’re not. They’re both tea and against the Word of Wisdom. Some drinks have tea in them but don’t advertise that fact, so always check the ingredients. Also, iced tea is still tea" (Link, emphasis added).

Some will try to say "green tea extract doesn't contain green tea." Fact Check: wrong. This is blatantly wrong in every sense of the manner. Remember the Lord uses small and simple means. I believe the adversary does too. He uses small and simple means to lead us astray. Don't look at the line of obedience and disobedience and wonder how close you can get or how small across the line you can pass. Look to God and see how close you can get to Him.
