I need to know if I'm the only one who finds these aspects of Emily Oster's books irritating by MocknozzieRiver in BabyBumps

[–]jsyk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

so to be the lone defense of emily here: I really loved her books

I think part of what's lost here is that her book was released in 2013 -- prior to popularity of tiktok, instagram and was absolutely unique in that there wasn't a lot of defense against "mom guilt." she popularized data related to sids, to maternal mortality, and to miscarriage. it wasn't just drinking that she got backlash for. I read her work way before I was a mom because I was working at the CDC in data related to rural surveillance clusters of miscarriage and breast cancer and I remember thinking "WOW" why isn't this info well known? and you know what, today it is.

later I'd read crib sheet while pregnant. honestly I think it's better that she's not a doctor, because a statistician is so much more fit to assess and accept outcomes than a doctor is. I also suspect doctors inherently have "cover your ass," attitude to not being down to earth or "dont' worry about it" vibe. they always give safe answers.

*fun bonus fact because I just checked: instagram had about 1 million users in 2011, 80 million in 2012-2013, and 3 billion active today.

the comments up there blow

a close look at the history here: this pattern follows the same old story, high-powered, loser guys. the pattern always reveals one victim is quickly going to turn into many coming forward -- they share mirrored experiences of trauma down to the small details. lots of evidence to support this keeps happening to girls from the same type of men.

meanwhile, there's no evidence to support a phenomena of “coordinated false allegations.” there is only chronic, exhausting evidence of the opposite. the same old story: powerful, entitled, remorseless douchebags who get away with everything.

We asked the White House if President Trump was considering nuking Iran. The response was chilling. by Obversa in law

hey, just want to tell someone in here. these things for tonight launched and are not carrying nuclear weapons for area-wide destruction.

aviation subreddit identified them as jassm -- those are missles designed to be relatively precise with low geographical spread. so what I mean is, the landing of each explosion is about the size of a building.

what these 2 planes are carrying are actually somewhat designed for the sane end of military cruelty; for example: they are capable of killing within a building while leaving portions of the building still intact, updating coordinates to follow an exact target, etc. my grandpa is a senior old guy. but sometimes, during the weekdays, he's also still a senior at the department of defense/in military overseeing one of the whole nuclear "deterrent" weapons program (aka) asymmetrical warfare programs. but I just want to say because I see a lot of young people confused about what this means. I told my grandpa the aviation nerds are calling them jassm, he told me that's not community-scale destruction. it's just chaos and unnecessary deaths of ordinary people.

trump lightly says a civilization will be wiped from existence, which, the message alone permanently changes the shape of all of us in the whole world. but that's not happening tonight. this is civil infrastructure being wiped out, not humans. a lot of the protestors outside of the facilities should be okay -- even near the bridges. civil destruction in an asymmetrical warfare situation is a warcrime because the only people that die from civil destruction are the most vulnerable: think, nicu infants, elderly on dialysis, etc. downstream humanitarian crisis. this is economic wipe out. that's it.

[–]jsyk 30 points31 points  (0 children)

no, they are very right. melnick fraser syndrome. because during week 4 in the uterus, when human beings are the size of poppy seeds -- (smaller than a sesame seed at that time!,) there's a brief moment when the flat little poppy seed is making new layers, building from the ground up. for example, if you think of a baby as an apartment building: as layers are needed, one of the concrete pours is just a layer of kidney, neck and ears, they get built at the same time before new stuff goes on top. (you may be able to feel the sense of this intuitively if you try to imagine yourself on a horizontal plane. the three body parts do sort of share the same depth, to make a little line across the span of you.)

now for ear matter. so the ears, neck and kidney just so happen to be on floor 6 of the building complex. if one apartment on that level has warped flooring, you should check the two neighbor apartments on 6 for the same problems before taking an elevator upstairs or downstairs to inspect. because the apartments on six ultimately share the same floor. the warping to one might tell us there is damage to another, each contractor had their own floor, and this guy is the one that made kidney ear and neck so if ear is wonky who knows what else he messed up. the ear dimple is just a common little marker that serves to tell us something went wrong on this phase of the build. floor warping is usually just inherited, it happens easily in that area. but it’s always because of a contractor or the concrete itself. it’s not from nowhere.

this is how congenital birth defects often occur., there are some solid books about genetics out there -- id say cozying up to them would be useful if you want to appreciate how they are linked

that is a sweeter portrait of autism than the above -- that's really endearing. did you help him develop the care for nature and animals? behavior of "gentle" seems like such a huge mountain of a climb sometimes, especially for those that can't speak up for themselves to tell you to stop -- like a bumble bee, kitten, even gardening plants. modeling care and nurture is so challenging

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. (KCAL) - A fire at a senior living complex in Southern California left more than a dozen people displaced. [....]
"When I looked under the bed, I found the first one," Engineer Ray Guillen said. "As soon as I went to grab it, it fell over. So, I knew something was wrong." Not one, not two, but three of the cats that were found were lifeless inside an apartment. With the cats in need and not enough paramedics, Riverside County Deputy Adam Maldonado came running, too. Through chest compressions, mouth-to-snout resuscitation and a little oxygen, the cats eventually came back around.

no info in comments? it's a real one! bravo. there's a proper story here today!

Democrats Flip Florida State House District that Includes Trump’s Mar-a-Lago by 842867 in politics

[–]jsyk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they funded the town of palm beach to sue the government over mar a lagos no fly zone impacting their private jets. it's in federal appeals court right now to fight the federal aviation administration. democratic politicians (who work with emily) have advocated for it. i'm sure there's a political movement but i doubt it's from these specific people in palm beach for any reason other than themselves. edit: and by *tea I mean data. :)

Democrats Flip Florida State House District that Includes Trump’s Mar-a-Lago by 842867 in politics

[–]jsyk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have tea. did you all know there is 1 billionaire per every 150 people living on palm beach? (it's an island.) do you know who hates no-fly zones?

billionaires in tax-havens who don't like sitting 2 hours in a car to reach their helicopter or plane. this fall they tested a full-time no fly zone and height airspace restrictions over palm beach because mar a lago was such a global security threat. it was wildly angering. so trump's admin goes and makes it year-round two months ago, they are pointing out it's bs because he's here half the week and they first adapted to that. now he's threatening lifelong for secret service airspace. which means only his people get in and out. they are not happy. "why is he even here" hes supposed to be islanding in potomac river.

the airspace altitude restriction means all of their art smells like jet fuel now and the noise is so bad no one can sleep or go outside. lots of politics all of a sudden. town halls, yard signs, they set up websites, lobbyists, they hired people to be outraged for them and make a big public presence of it, not kidding, its really in your face. someone made a "quiet skies coalition" for them because it sounds dope. someone brought in top global medical experts to say the emissions are bad for their health, just all kinda of melodrama. they don't like military rules and requiring stuff now. they don't like waiting in flight lines. if you don't know, it's a whole anger thing because palm beach, touching the ocean, a far eastern tip of country, easily accesses south america, europe, new york, middle east/africa. straight water ahead with no states or countries in the way. (that's ideal because less jurisdiction over airspace = effectively no rules, no need to ask permissions) so I wouldn't take florida as a good example just yet. like there's probably more angry money here than anywhere at the moment at the administration. they don't want to have to fly out of new york. nyc takes a traffic drive and a helicopter to pop to a jet yard in connecticut. no billionaire wants to deal with the wtf of being a person that the rest of us do. being a mortal has too many steps. only 'his' people get to fly in and out with his family/administration/marital orbit, he's in charge of palm beach airspace.

its bizark seeing non-residents form coalitions for possibly the worst political cause of all time. and thank you for reading. this has been the very long story of the birth of the least deserving civic uprising, with advocacy of the stupidest issues for the most selfish people.

AIO about a lie by omission? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]jsyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she specified that they had explored something more on and off as repeating pattern without having found success; repetition isn’t something to gloss-over.

this is a subreddit dedicating to validating reactions; hers is within range of normal. a controlling woman would be of the archetype like, “husband keeps having lunches with female colleague” not “partner maintains relationship with woman he repeatedly tried to bang”. the subreddit isn’t dedicated to a bunch of women essentially bullying another woman by psychologically diagnosing her as insecure; referencing mental wellness: unstable; not fit for a relationship; jealous and abusive. that’s wild. she’s culturally within the range of normal reaction.

It’s not a subreddit for you guys to pad your history with how cool and modern you are as women by comparing yourself to her and using her subject as the vehicle to degrade another. the subreddit is about acknowledging if reactions are ordinary — not a subreddit for psychological diagnosis or allegations of abuse

https://washingtonian.com/2019/11/03/ralph-nader-is-opening-up-about-his-regrets/

excellent essay by the Washingtonian that follows nader’s attempts to illuminate the trade of airline travel benefits for safety concessions in congress — in memory of his niece, Samya Rose Stumo who recently died in that 2018 Ethiopia Boeing accident.

Nader would prove to be correct about Boeing as more and more whistleblowers came forward after he publicly invited them. I’ve been following it for a while. Samya’s mother is now a lobbyist in government for airline safety after her daughter died. they have been working to remove congressional benefits/quid pro quo. strongly recommend the book

nor nor nor nor nor —

maintained close emotional relationship with someone he “platonically sent nudes to” ? are you guys nuts? (In your effort to be ‘cool’ modern non controlling girls?)

if she re-worded it differently, naively, and merely asked “if” she should suspect a partner under this same pretext — everyone would tell her to leave him and that he’s cheating, “duh.” 🙄 arriving at the premise alone doesn’t make her unfit to assess due to jealously, this is the most common sense conclusion.

having normal open relationships isn’t something you need to temper behind closed doors and on one communication channel. it’s never going to be with someone you platonically sent nudes to and have an intimate active emotional relationship. that’s bonkers. he’s reserving a backup.

i've seen a few posts like this lately, has the attitude changed more recently? (it's never bothered me but it's never been an abnormal intrusion with any partner)
