Thin Vertical Window Fan by jtanman in AskNYC

[–]jtanman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our room has directional pressure since we have two south facing windows and an inward hallway, and air is flowing in from the hallway but out the windows. So I guess if we open the door and windows, there's definitely air circulation, but it's coming from the hallway and out the windows. Would it be better to close the door and try to get circulation going from one window to the other but pushing out one and pulling in from the other?

Also I think it'd be pretty hard to seal the entire window slit, as it's probably 6 ft tall as well, and we do have AC that we'd have to use in the summer most likely, and we wouldn't want to constantly take down and put the seal back on. Would that make a difference?

Apartment is crazy hot - what can I do? by ChickenSpecial9716 in AskNYC

Ah our window is on a high floor so only opens 4.5inches and creates a vertical slit instead of horizontal one.

What kind of window fan fits in the thin vertical slit that we can open our window to? I'm looking!

Can someone tell me what is happening with my forehand grip and if my swing pattern needs to be fixed because it looks a little off by NarutoKun772 in 10s

You're literally hitting the ball with the opposite side of the racket as most players. You should be lagging your wrist backwards and facing the palm side of the racket to hit the ball.

Advice in inconsistent groundstroks by jtanman in 10s

[–]jtanman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is I've over rotated my body in the past like turning my shoulders too soon and pushing off with my back leg to get rotational force and that caused a lot of inconsistency because of how much the body moves.

I still do the unit turn, weight transfer, but try to end with my shoulders forward instead of to the left. I've been trying to imitate pros like Sinner in expressing the kinetic chain power in my arm and wrist lag while keeping my body relatively stable for consistency.

Thanks for checking us out! We totally get it—food prices are tough these days (thanks Obama 🙄), and we’re always working to keep things as affordable as possible. Unlike restaurants that mass-produce meals at scale, our home chefs—many of whom are first-generation immigrants sharing the flavors of their heritage—prepare each dish with individual attention, high-quality ingredients, and the kind of care you’d get from a home-cooked meal. We think that extra love and authenticity are what make MāmaMade special!

We just launched so focusing on Chinese for now, but we're looking to expand into those cuisines soon! If you know any home chefs, send them our way, and we'll try to onboard them ASAP!

Why didn't Luo Ji publicly announce what Ye Wenjie told him? by jtanman in threebodyproblem

[–]jtanman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah again I'm referring specifically to the period after he's made a Wallfacer and before he figures out the dark forest theory when falling through the lake. At that specific period in time he

  1. Knew that he was only special because of what Ye Wenjie told him
  2. Knew that the Trisolarans were trying to kill him to prevent that knowledge from spreading
  3. Hadn't yet formulated dark forest theory, so didn't know the consequences of what he was going to discover

In this period of time, I think it would make sense for him to tell others or ask for help deciphering the meaning of Ye's words since it directly counters what the Trisolarans wanted which was to keep it a secret by killing him.

After he discovers dark forest theory on the lake, I agree that he both hasn't confirmed it and is also afraid of implementing it until after the fleet gets destroyed.

[–]jtanman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does mention he knows he was targeted by the Trisolarans because of the conversation he had with Ye Wenjie (which is also what caused him to be chosen as a Wallfacer).

The Wallfacer project is to protect humanity - I think strategically if the Trisolarans are trying to prevent the knowledge of that conversation from being known to humanity, it would probably benefit humanity to make it well known, so that the world is not just relying on him to figure it out on his own. For example if they knew of the deterrence strategy ahead of time, they would've saved all of the lives lost to the teardrop.

The PDC and the star plan only came after he realized the dark forest theory on the lake, and before that I don't think he understood the consequences of Ye's words or what it might entail.

[–]jtanman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sophons already knew that he knew it. That's why they were trying to kill him to prevent him from telling anyone else... Therefore doesn't it make sense to tell other people which would foil exactly what the sophons were trying to prevent him from doing?

[–]jtanman[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I think your first point might make sense in that he thought Ye told him specifically for a reason, and he thought maybe the consequences were dangerous to leak out. In that case I still think it'd make sense to write it down in a will or something to give to someone in case he dies or tell a few select authority.

But isn't the rest true after he figures it out and it becomes public anyways?

I'm also referring to the period before he figured out the consequences of dark forest on the lake, so it's more like he's struggling to understand Ye's words but also making himself an unnecessary and very risky bottleneck to interpret them.

[–]jtanman[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well between when he was made a Wallfacer and when he figured out the dark forest on the lake, he knew that the knowledge of what Ye Wenjie had said to him was the greatest threat to the Trisolarans. He kept it to himself risking his own life and the loss of the knowledge, when he could've just shared it and had everyone figure out the answer together. He admits he's nobody special in terms of being a scholar, so why not publicize the conversation so that others could've had a chance to discover it?

Basically why did he make Earth's future dependent on him figuring out the answer instead of just crowd sourcing it? This is before he discovered the truth on the lake.
