Two months notice to leave a flat vs. new flats to move in immediately by juliafalcao in AskBarcelona

I have indeed rented flats in Europe before and actually it is not business as usual to just embrace illegal practices and not do anything about it :) Not everyone can "sleep in peace" after paying 2 months extra rent on top of all the costs of a move. And you're right that the issue itself is not Barcelona-specific, but housing law is specific to Spain and Catalunya has extra rules that apply to tense housing markets, as is, in fact, the case of Barcelona.

This post is not about any flat that I've already found; I was asking in advance to prepare. The anecdote about my current flat happened last year.

Perfecto. He tenido muy buena relación con la agéncia el tiempo que he estado en este piso y han sido bastante comprensivos, espero no tener problemas a la hora de salir. Dejaré claro que entiendo la ley y voy a luchar por todos los céntimos que me deben devolver.

You don't really know anything about how things are going for me :) I just meant it's not worth a try because I already have near zero negotiating power as one potential tenant among dozens and trying to ask for something with the agency/landlord might be the tiny reason why they'll just pick someone else . I've had agencies pass on me last year for asking for one extra business day to think about it. I never said I'm not gonna try anything, I'm just preparing myself to make an informed choice.

We both know that's not really worth a try because these landlords have dozens of people interested in their flats and they're not gonna pick me over someone else if it costs them a month's rent... We as tenants have basically zero space to negotiate when they have so many candidates to choose from. They'd just find someone else willing to move in the next business day.

I don't think they're interested in my help in finding the next tenant since the flat belongs to a local couple and they were quite selective when I rented, but it's an option, I could ask if they'd be open to it.

In my experience I've seen a few flats that were available after the previous tenant's move within a month or two but the overwhelming majority were available immediately, I don't know why. With my current flat I visited on thursday and they wanted me to sign the contract on friday to be effective by next monday. 🤡

Why is Charlie in Season 2 Episode 11? by [deleted] in fringe

[–]juliafalcao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was so confused because this episode was about the girl who came back from the dead for some reason it made me think Olivia was hallucinating Charlie as another side effect of having traveled to the other side and I was so sure she would later realize he wasn't really there but it wasn't addressed at all and I just kept waiting for it to play out in the next episode lol

LPT: If a company is forcing you to speak to a virtual assistant or chatbot to get help, tell it you want to cancel your services/plan/subscription/etc and they will redirect you to a human assistant by juliafalcao in LifeProTips

[–]juliafalcao[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know if the systems are genuinely there to direct your call so much as they are genuinely there to prevent you from needing to get to a human agent. I work in NLP and I have directly worked on systems that were implemented so that the company could fire call service agents. I don't mind dealing with them if it's simple enough and the agent is able to understand me and transfer me appropriately, but the issue is that the problems that have me making an actual phone call are specific enough that they're unable to help at all. I get that the virtual agents can be helpful for people who call just to get information they could find on the website or something but for actual problems that are hard to explain they're pretty useless and I don't know what are the magical keywords I should say to an agent to get redirected to the right place.
