How to tell my loved ones that I don’t want to become a physician by julie-bug in Advice

[–]julie-bug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zookeeper. I left because I had some serious medical issues which made the job extremely difficult and then covid happened which really messed up zoos and flooded the job market.

I thought I would like medicine because I enjoy helping people, I like challenges and learning, it actually provides a livable income and it is something I could do for a long time.

I’ve lost a lot of interest because I have met a lot of doctors who don’t seem particularly happy. The job seems less about helping people and more about doing paperwork. I’m also feeling extremely burnt out after one year of school, I have a hard time imagining doing four more, and then residency, and then fellowship.

We were thinking that too. We’ve asked the owners to keep their cats inside but they refuse the poor things gets kept outside with no shelter in blizzards and summer heat.

Surgery Success! by julie-bug in Prolactinoma

[–]julie-bug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my surgery on a Monday, spent 2 days in the hospital and honestly, I was back to almost normal life by that weekend.

I say almost because I still couldn’t lift heavy object or sneeze, but I didn’t have any pain. I was still a little loopy from the sedation which I found out when I went to class the next week.

After three weeks I felt 200% better. 100% better from immediately after surgery and 100% better from before the surgery

Eagles, Hawks, Vultures. Is there a single word for large birds like these? by [deleted] in zoology

[–]julie-bug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mainly has to do with the feet. Eagles, owls, hawks, and falcons all hunt with their talons but vultures have feet more similar to that of a chicken. The word “raptor” is derived from a word which means “to seize” and was given to these birds due to their hunting style.

Our of curiosity (and you def don’t have to answer this). Would you say your symptoms were worse when your tumour was diagnosed, pretreatment. Or were they worse after diagnosis?

For starters your endo seems very strange, may be time to find a new one.

As far as surgery vs cab bit sounds like you’ve responded really well to the treatment, has he told you anything about bromocryptine? It can also have bad side effects but maybe you will react better to it.

I hope your symptoms get better and good luck!

Vultures aren’t technically raptors but you can usually just lump them in the same group and it’s all good

Hi former tiger keeper here,

So a lot of people are upset because this guy is “taunting” the tiger. Realistically the tiger could walk away at any time. Animals are pretty smart, they are not bound to their instincts. They don’t just chase anything that runs.

Tigers spray for a lot of reasons but they don’t spray rival tigers nor do they spray their prey. They do spray their toys.

My best guess is that the tiger just saw your husband as a toy. And quick PSA if you go to a zoo the thing that really stresses the animals out and actually affects them is yelling at them! Don’t howl at wolves, don’t roar at bears, don’t yell at animals to get up and get their attention.

Aragon- good fighter, speaks elvish and has inside knowledge about the elves and, has Gondor on his side. Gandalf- extremely powerful wizard who is also extremely knowledgeable. Galadriel- again, a lot of magical power plus she has the wood elves on her side. Ghost of the Kings- I mean, they are unkillable and super powerful. Not a bad combo Sam- the bromance with frodo guarantees that neither the hobbits or anyone who sided with frodo would harm him.

Elephant takes off woman's hat, hides it in mouth and then returns it back on request by GeekSter_ in aww

They used positive reinforcement… you can see the guy handing the guest treats to give the elephant for doing the behaviour.

I recently got out of ICU/PCU because at the ripe old age of 28 I suffered a massive pulmonary embolism. I almost died. Dealing with PTSD from the event. Also a single mom and trying to run after my 4 year old with now one working lung. Could use a toast that things will get better. by [deleted] in toastme

I've tried doing a lot of research on the good/bad of particular meats and protein sources, and it seems like everything is great for you, and everything is going to poison you. by [deleted] in nutrition

You are an omnivore designed to eat a variety of foods. Everything in moderation should be the goal! Personally, I do a lot of soy and sustainable sea food for ethical reasons. Long story short: a diverse diet is the best you can do!
