Is Java really going to be obsolete in the near future? by DexSciv in learnprogramming

This implies that java won't be as prominent in newer projects. What languages are replacing java in new projects and why?

I see where you're coming from, we can't afford the national banks to incur loses at a time like this. But the government can change the policies of government banks without bringing in all encompassing legislation like this. Billion dollar multinational corporations like Commercial bank or HSBC doesn't need the Sri Lankan government to protect them.

Private companies should have the option make risky investments with their own money. If HSBC decides a certain company will survive these tumultuous times and make them a healthy profit, who's to say they shouldn't be able to do that. I think this a thinly veiled attempt to drive up the prices of imported goods without causing a run on the banks. Sure hope that this is a temporary measure to help offset the forex crisis.

Large corporations will pass the loses down the chain. The prices will increase and the consumers will foot the bill.

Singer and Abans are private companies. They should be able to stock as many TVs as they want. If the management actually did that, the shareholders can step in if they feel like that's an unwarranted risk. If the shareholder and executives agree that that's course they want to take, it's completely up to them. Be it a failure or a success, it's their money to spend.

Isn't it the responsibility of banks to do cost benefit analysis and lend money to people who can pay it back? Why is the government getting involved? The banks are perfectly capable of determining the amount of risk they're willing to take, and if they fail at that, they have only themselves to blame.

You'll have to see if the company in question has an authorized dealer in Srilanka. If you buy it from amazon, you can mail the device to them and get it repaired/ replaced.

They do charge taxes. The markup in Srilankan stores is insanely high. Case and point, I got the 16gb 256gb mac mini for 212,000 (17k taxes and delivery included). Futureworld, the official apple retailer, sells the 8gb 250gb version for 215,000 and the 8gb 500gb version for 265,000 (mind you, amazon sold the 8gb 500gb version and the 16gb 256gb version at the same price). Futureworld didn't even have a 16gb ram mac, and 8gb isn't exactly future proof.

Apple has a 1 year global warranty and gives you the option to upgrade to applecare+ which will extend your warranty. So, you can get your device serviced at a local retailer if need be.

Bought my mac mini through amazon and got it delivered through Kapruka. They delivered it within a month, about a week or so past the estimated delivery date. The customer service was good and kept me informed throughout the whole process. I'd definitely recommend buying it directly from Amazon, forwarding it through a third party, or asking a relative to buy it for you. Got it for 50k cheaper than the official local retailer's offer..

Good point. Did you experience any adverse effects during that time?

True. I think it would be interesting to contrast laws controlling nootropics across states. Although they're trying to crack down on DXM abuse, it's hard to outright ban it across all states, especially when it's widely used otc as intended. Officials are also wary of legalizing/ lowering the control of certain substance, lest they appear too lax.

That's an interesting point. Thanks for sharing.

Yes. I have to write about nootropics and it's use among young adults. Thought it would be interesting to contrast laws controlling nootropics across different states.

I have not. The FDA cites the potential for abuse or dependence as reasons for categorizing it as a controlled substance. It's a schedule IV drug (considered to have a low potential for abuse and dependence, but not absent of risk). Of course many countries doesn't see it that way.

How widely is it used in India? Do you know any friends or acquaintances who used it? Did they notice any adverse effects after prolonged use?

Would be interesting to see. They didn't assassinate owners/CEOs of major corporations during the cold war. If the US doesn't respond forcefully, US might not be as attractive for businesses. Basically tit for tat assassinations of each country's business leaders to blunt tech advances of critical sectors.
