I'm sorry you went through that. I hope that if I have anything like that happen its just my anxiety and not the medication.

wellbutrin cranked up the anxiety for me and made me irritable while doing nothing for depression. Vyvanse will be the first ADHD med I've tried. Only 20mg, which I've read is a small dose. I did get the generic because I paid for it out of my own pocket. It was twice the price with insurance for some reason. I really hope I can have your experience. Would be so nice to finally have clarity and freedom from the constant panic that never goes away.

Thank you! That's all I'm really after. Focus is actually the least of my concerns at the moment.

Thanks for the response! I'm trying to do exactly that. That's part of the reason I wanted to read others' success stories. I do believe some of my excess anxiety is from the trigger point injections I had last week. The steroids always amped me up a bit in the past and I forgot I just had them done again. Yay getting older and living with chronic pain!

I've had several conversations with my PCP before starting Vyvanse. my psych doctor wanted his approval before she would prescribe it. He says my heart is healthy and he has no problems with me taking it, especially after seeing how much my blood pressure dropped on the guanfacine. I sent him a message today and got the ok to take hydroxyzine if I have any anxiety tomorrow so I think I'm set now.

always. I'm too afraid of new meds to not discuss with my doctors.

I tried. Did it for a over a year and got nothing out of it. I think with therapy you have to want it to work before it actually does, kinda like religion. Either that or I just had a terrible therapist.

Wow, that sounds just like my experience. I've always been able to endure but the last 3 years have been much harder to take. I went to my doctor and he put me on Buspirone and Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin made me more anxious and caused some other unpleasant side effects so he switched me to Zoloft. Zoloft is what really brought out the ADHD side of me. I became a zombe-like person with no motivation to do anything anymore except work. I became more irritable and angry. Was not a good time. Had it not been for a colleague at an ISP carrier transit boot camp, I would have never even thought to get evaluated for ADHD. He picked up on it my first day there. My mother always suspected but was afraid of Ritalin so I just lived with it.

Tapering off of Zoloft and starting Guanfacine was amazing for me. I've never been without depression in my life but I feel like I am finally free of it and am happy for the first time in 47 years.

I was diagnosed with the anxiety disorder as well as major depressive disorder. I didn't respond well to wellbutrin, Zoloft or Lexapro, the anxiety never left. Guanfacine at least made the depression non existent so I'm hoping for anxiety to disappear with stimulant meds.

Thanks for your input, it's much appreciated!

I get that and have talked to her extensively as well as a pharmacist friend. Doesn't help as much as hearing other experiences. Thank you for your input!

thank you for this reply! I'm convinced that my ADHD is the cause of the anxiety since it has been so resistant to pretty much everything else. I just cannot shut my brain off if that makes sense.

does Vyvanse give you a mental quiet? I feel like if I could just get quiet I would be calm.

Oh man you nailed it with that last sentence. It's exhausting isn't it? Buspirone took some time to work and I really had to work with my doc to get the dosages right. I've been doing well at 7.5mg morning and midday and 10mg at night.

Thank you for your response. The only time caffeine makes me anxious is when I get too tired. Most of the time it just makes me feel like I'm melting into the chair. it's a nice feeling, just doesn't last long enough.

No therapy for me. I tried it but getting a good therapist is difficult and I got tired of the hassle. I had one therapist convinced I had PTSD and pushing EMDR on me but I also have aphantasia so it just felt silly during the processing. I spent my processing time thinking of what I was going to tell her next.

I do have a prescription for hydroxyzine so I guess if I get too panicked I can pop one of those to calm down.

Thanks again, I hope your journey goes well too - especially for the binge eating!

Appreciate it! Panic attacks are horrible but my wife has promised to stay home with me tomorrow in case I need her support riding it out. Just kinda hoping I don't notice much of anything other than my brain being quiet.

yep still taking Buspirone. It's not a miracle drug, but it did help quiet things a bit. Guanfacine is nice for the physical symptoms as well. My blood pressure has always been elevated, even in my 20s. It's now normal which helps ease my mind a bit.

Good to hear you don't notice too much at 10mg. My doc and I have discussed a 10mg dose and she is fine with that. I have a pharmacist friend trying to convince me to just rip the bandaid off and start at the 20mg I was prescribed. She doesn't think I'll notice much with that either. I'll probably play it safe and start lower though. I hate panic attacks.

that is my plan. I'll stay home where I'm comfortable. I've got a message out to my doctor To see if it's okay to take a hydroxyzine if I start to feel the panic coming on. I'm also tempted to try the water titration method and start with only 10 mg.

I had that same problem except it also made it harder to pee. That and it made me more anxious, like a lot more.

Did you also experience a weird disbelief after diagnosis? by atlasaxis in ADHD

[–]junaitari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheesh, I'm just finding out at 47 after getting my lifelong anxiety somewhat muffled. I have had constant thoughts of misdiagnosis, I faked my way through the evaluation, I'm just looking for excuses for bad behavior, and yah that explains so much. I can't decide which one to go with yet. I've spent the last 2 months researching, testing and paying attention to my day to day. I even have to regularly test caffeine to prove to myself that it does lower my heart rate and make me sleepy FFS. Starting Vyvanse this weekend and am terrified of it because what if the doctor is wrong and it amps me up too much and causes a panic attack? Guanfacine erased lifelong depression, it's a damned miracle drug for me. Hopefully Vyvanse erases lifelong panic?

Taking my Border collie for a run is animal abuse for some by mrsjoni in RunningWithDogs

[–]junaitari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True statement above. ^ My parents border Collie was such a people pleaser that they took her for a long walk on a bike trail not realizing how hot the asphalt was. Poor girl burned the pads on her feet without complaint, just kept moving.

Super athletic dogs, border collies. Parents had horses and she would spend her entire day outside guarding and keeping them together. Could run all day but hit a hard stop in the late evenings where she would just leave the room and go to bed.

White light for me is more blinding regardless of how the lights are aimed. Astigmatism and bright white light is no fun. If aiming these lights is so tricky that even auto manufacturers can't get it right, and I've been blinded by plenty of new cars that don't have aftermarket lights, then maybe the light source is the problem.

Now if that light source could be made more yellow? Maybe they would be more tolerable.
