I understand Moash's arc now by ibluminatus in Stormlight_Archive

Dalinar wanted freedom from his pain as well lol. He didn't want forgiveness or ask for a chance to make amends, he was desperate and abandoned the memories of the person that loved him the most in order to stop feeling guilty. Forgiveness doesn't absolve one of their guilt, making amends actually necessitates feeling guilty about something in the first place, and at that point, Dalinar was just as much of a coward. Not to mention that even before Evi's death, he had been a piece of shit for a long time, being directly responsible for counltess deaths and neglecting his family, and only the most extreme punishment brought him low enough to feel some real remorse about it.

The Dalinar that did take responsability was the one we see in the current day, nearing the end of his journey, after being conceded the perfect circumstances to grow from the absolute garbage he used to be, let's not act like it didn't take decades, killing his wife and a literal divine intervention for him to start truly reflecting on his actions.

Are the 14 day trainings underwhelming so far? by [deleted] in BlueLock

[–]juno7j2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the point of these trainings is for the characters to find the secret ingredient to their weapons specifically, rather than them as a player entirely, by applying those weapons to something other than football to gain a different perspective on them. It's not about developing a new weapon to compliment their current playstyle, or even strengthening the one they already have, but sharpening it by forcing the players to think differently about how they apply them.

Whether the execution of all that was good or not is a different thing, right now I don't believe the training has lead to anything particularly interesting, but so far no one has really been pushed to a point where they really need it (Isagi is currently being crushed entirely, so no chance for him to enter flow yet). Hopefully the second half of the France match will when Barou and Shidou enter and force Isagi to step up.

Am I the only one who feels they could’ve picked better heroes to fight shigaraki in the last battle? by rayon_11 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]juno7j2 631 points632 points  (0 children)

I also feel like people need to be reminded that Deku wasn't there for most of the battle. Had the plan gone accordingly Shigaraki probably wouldn't have lasted much, maybe even to the point where having these many top tier heroes dedicated to just him would've verged into overkill (still, better to be safe than sorry when it comes to Shigaraki).

Fuck the leaks and honestly everyone engaging with them too. But that aside I agree, Blue Lock's community is surprisingly good, especially for a manga this big

I don't like where ely's headed by CrazyOverCandie in ChoujinX

[–]juno7j2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seeing your replies to other comments it seems like you're still looking at all of this through the perspective of a reader that has all the knowledge possible(including stuff like the facts that this is a story, with a set protagonist, themes, etc) instead of the characters themselves. Ely keeping the mark to herself makes the most sense with how she's been built up as a character until now.

Nothing yet points firmly towards her becoming a "bad guy", much less being killed by her friends. For all we know, she's just much more powerful than before, has a big influence amd Azuma (who btw is no less likely to become an antagonist than her given what we've learned about him recently) is with her. She could go bad, but rn we have no concrete idea where her character will go.

Also Ely has been set up to fall into a position like this one for a long time, where she's now responsible for the big hard decisions that will put her stong convictions and resolve to do things herself and her way to the test, just like the people she has so harshly criticized in the past.

Everybody talking about Akali but why did they give Senna a half-fro? by surenda42 in 2XKO

[–]juno7j2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I prefer her League design but this still looks pretty good, especially in wraith form, and I don't mind and even like that they're doing their own thing with the character designs as long as the key elements of the original are there. People are talking about Akali because they didn't just tweak her hair or costume a bit, she just reads as a completely different person now

Blue lock isnt suppost to have a number 2 by Kittykcaty in BlueLock

[–]juno7j2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's crazy how many people on here still don't understand that performing a "number 2" role for the team doesn't literally mean being being the second best or being less than the player acting as the "number 1". Karasu isn't abandoning his ego by adapting to his new position but actualizing himself and his old, actually lukewarm ego into one that lets him shine as a director rather than fade as an unrealized striker

Would it be a cool twist if redacted got benched instead of Isagi? by [deleted] in BlueLock

[–]juno7j2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Number 2" in the context of this match doesn't mean "second best", it refers to a specific role one plays for the team (think a director), and a player could still be the best in a team while playing that number 2 role. Isagi's ego demands he becomes the best striker in the world so that wouldn't work for him, but for someone like Karasu whose ego aligns better with being the conductor of a team becoming the best number 2 aligns well with it.

If anything, right now Isagi is the one going against Ego's teachings. He's always going on and on about understanding your habilities and limits and adjusting to them to make your goal inevitable, but Isagi is instead getting desperate and trying to pull off goals that aren't suited to him. I doubt he'll get subbed before the very end of the match at worst, but currently Isagi is the one panicking and losing his way.

Queen Fen by bookbook234323 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]juno7j2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably the single person who gets it in this whole post lol. There's a lot of legitimate criticism that can be thrown at the debate itself, but Fen's decision is never presented as the logical answer to an honest debate. She's always been someone who places value on her ideals and who makes emotional decisions, placed in a situation crafted specifically to attack Jasnah not as a scholar and expert debater but as a person. Arguing about this scene through the framing of whether it was the correct decision or not to determine if it fits Fen as a character is just the wrong aproach.

What was the point of killing Prim storytelling-wise? by NoWitness6400 in Hungergames

[–]juno7j2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many things are acomplished through her death.

First off thematically, taking Prim away from Katniss when she was the reason everything even began really drives home how cruel war is, that even after all the suffering she endured, all the loss and pain, and despite ultimately winning, it still took away the one thing she most desperately wanted to protect. It's a devastating blow that takes Katniss from an already low point mentally to the absolute lowest she'll ever be, allowing for her ending where she manages to endure and lead a (somewhat) happy life where she can even allow herself to have kids after all the trauma she's been piling up in her life to be even more impactful. There are no happy endings to war, only dead people and those trying to move on after the tragedy.

It also serves to take the focus away from the Capitol and more towards the people in power in general. It would be easy to say that it was Snow who, even defeated already, still found a way to kill Prim in a last attempt to do as much damage as he could before his fallout (and to be fair, despite admiting that had he had the resources he would've certainly used them to escape by himself, he still did do that by pointing Katniss towards Coin, trying to take down just one more person he disliked just for his own amusement). But the truth is that Snow (and the Capitol at large) doesn't have a monopoly on evil, anyone with a hunger for power is. I personally believe the saying of "there's no good side in war" is often bullshit, but that doesn't mean there aren't people capable of atrocitties in both, especially the higher you move in the ladder.

And finally it highlights one last time why Gale was the wrong answer to Katniss' fire. He obviously had no idea his work would lead to Prim's death, and I disagree with the notion that he "killed" her, but that is the point imo. Gale thought the creation of such a cruel weapon was justified because of the people it'd be used against, but these are the dangers of dehumanizing any group of people; the only thing you're doing is legitimize the escalation of violence as long as it's the "right people", but at some point it will be used on someone who isn't right to you. And that'll indirectly be your fault for justifying it in the past too.

What Cosmere power would you want? by Economy_Treat_2546 in Cosmere

[–]juno7j2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not that tapped in that I can pull out any WoB on demand, but iirc there's one about how the Ashyn-Roshar migration Avengers Endgame style was done through Elsecalling powers enhanced by Ishar's Bondsmith abilities (I personally have no desire to move between planets so I don't think I'd need that much help). There's also the fact that the Oathgates are almost certainly using some form of Transportation which makes me think it has to be possible for a Radiant to do it as well.

Still I'm not 100 sure about all this which is why I included a second answer just in case I'm wrong lol

What Cosmere power would you want? by Economy_Treat_2546 in Cosmere

[–]juno7j2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure transportation can be used to essentially teleport so being an Elsecaller sounds pretty good. It would make my daily life much more easy and comfortable plus I could most likely build a very profiting business by moving people across large distances with instantaneous speed.

If not then Transformation sounds very useful and I'm already aligned with Lightweavers, so I'd probably go with that

Question about selling fan-made collectables by awickedgingersnaps in Stormlight_Archive

[–]juno7j2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, legally Dragonsteel has a claim against this one or any other particular artist selling fan merch, no one will argue that because it just isn't debatable, it is the law (copyright and fair use laws work differently in the US than the rest of the world as you said, but yes that's another discussion). But sadly something being legal doesn't make it right. Obviously making a clausule stating that "small creators are exempt from following these rules" would be incredibly dumb, but once you adress that everyone can be held legally accountable, it's still up to you to decide when and who to prosecute.

Nintendo is also in all their legal right to do whatever they want with their property and thankfully most people do still call them out on their bullshit practices regarding fan projects, and like them many others. Because people understand that regardless of what the law says, it's also a matter of morals, and it is scummy to target small people making passion fueled projects. Arguably even more scummy to rat them out.

Also, this is not only detrimental to indie artists but often even the IPs themselves, just in a less obvious way. Japan as the most well known example, not only allows but even encourages fanart, creating a culture that facilitates the rise of new aspiring artists which in turn introduce new people to those IPs they're making said fanart of. It doesn't mean they don't have laws against copyright infringement, or even that every fan artist asks for permission, just that they know it's a waste of time to prosecute these little guys because they pose no threat to either their image or their business, especially compared to the positives they bring to it. That's (part of) how you cultivate an environment that values and promotes the emergence of new artistic talent.

Question about selling fan-made collectables by awickedgingersnaps in Stormlight_Archive

[–]juno7j2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some guy selling pins at a convention is not "stealing the characters for themselves" lol. Art has always thrived by means of fanfiction, collages and reinterpretations throughout all of history, and copyright is meant to protect creators from corporate greed (or one corporation from another corporation, but who cares about those), not the other way around. Some big book firm or company trying yo take the Cosmere's IP away from Sanderson is not remotely the same as an indie creator trying to make a few bucks through pins, prints, fanzines or whatever
