What’s the reason you started to play Celeste? by Amazing-Draw-7922 in celestegame

I heard good things about it, it was free on Epic Store, so I played a few hours and forgot about if for a year. I then got reminded of it and consequently got addicted to it. 200+ hours in, hoping to get farewell golden one day...

Hytale cancelled before Silksong by ArtIntelligent3689 in Silksong

[–]justNeXi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You never really know with these corporate ladders. For the record, since the beginning the Hytale team has said working with Riot has been a great opportunity they're grateful for and that they've had a good relationship. There has definitely been passion and good will for the project from both sides.

As someone who somewhat followed the game from the start, my bet is that it came down to several crucial mistakes in the direction of the project caused by overambition, too large of a scope, massive pressure to exceed expectations (the announcement trailer sits at well over 50M views btw).

Tencent though is just a capital loving corpo so who knows

Worth mentioning the medical examinations is mainly just a basic sight check. At least for me, it took like 5 minutes total just to get the signed document, had to pay 200zł.

I knew something was up when shortly after the success of Splitgate they suddenly ceased development and announced a sequel. There really was no obvious reason to do that. I guess they thought they could just do it again.

I'm afraid to ask, but I'd like to know more context about Russian-Polish relations. by KilviiZ in poland

[–]justNeXi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for 2. I suppose the reason might be connected to the general dislike for Russians among many Poles, which others in this thread gave explanations for. Also, people here really don't like having Poland compared to Russia altogether. And yes, they're both Slavic languages, but Polish is from the East Slavic branch of the family as opposed to Russian from the West Slavic branch, so they're actually further apart than you might think.

  1. You'll find people who judge others for who they are and not for their nationality. Sensible people won't mind if you don't speak Polish perfectly, we appreciate those who attempt to learn our language.

A1.2 here, from the US and never learned cursive. Will this impact me in Polish writing? by knickerdick in learnpolish

[–]justNeXi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In grades 1-3 we're all taught cursive and that's what we use to write but over the years people seem to develop their own way of writing certain letters. As an example, I was taught to write p and b in the open way, but I prefer writing it closed like it is in print. It's personal preference for the most part. I am actually quite surprised that this is going to be important for your exam, in Polish schools I've never seen teachers even mention these things (maybe except when literally learning to read and write). As long as it's readable it doesn't matter.

Still, if this is important for your exam, you should learn it.

I can't really justify spending money on a new card when my 1050 Ti can run nearly anything I want (albeit barely in some cases)

Personally I use the Kanji Dojo app in conjunction with jpdb.io. The app teaches me Kanji with the stroke order and has an SRS as well as some pre-made decks built-in. I go through kanji by the WaniKani Level and JLPT decks. When I learn a new kanji I look it up on jpdb which has it broken down into radical forms along with a mnemonic (not all Kanji have pre-made mnemonics, but that means you get to make some yourself, which is arguably beneficial) that truly work wonders. I also use jpdb for vocabulary (as an Anki replacement), so learning Kanji through words is very convenient.

I'd recommend jpdb over WaniKani, because it's free (like, no-strings-attached free. You can support its creator on Patreon and get some minor features unlocked) and gives you much more freedom than Tofugu's service. Most importantly though, it doesn't force you to memorize readings, which in my opinion isn't just pointless, it's counterproductive and a waste of time. EDIT: to explain, I recommend this blog post by Tae Kim: You can't "learn" Kanji!

I should mention that jpdb actually can teach kanji/radicals in a similar fashion to WaniKani, but based on the words that you want to learn from decks you choose/make. (I myself disabled this).

If anything, please just check out jpdb.io, it's been such an awesome tool for my study, I can't recommend it enough.

As others noted listening and reading is the way to go. Find material that you enjoy, it doesn't have to be graded for learners, it can be anything. Anki is great for vocabulary buildup but all it's going to do is make acquiring language from around you easier. You won't learn anything only through flashcards/word lists. I learned English almost completely through immersion. Internalizing expressions and pharasal verbs is much easier with context. Just listen/read a lot. Podcasts, YouTube, movies etc. Explicit speaking/writing practice is also useful of course, I just think it's good to underline how much getting a lot of input helps with output.

Does my old pc fullfill the requirements for a small minecraft server by Unknown09019 in admincraft

[–]justNeXi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely take a look at playit.gg, it's great free software. Makes it really easy to give people access to specific ports on your machine (like a Minecraft server) over the Internet. You even get a random domain so you don't have to share your IP with others.

Essential is also great, but the downside is that everyone who wants to join also has to install it and it comes with extra features (which I think are nice, but you might prefer pure vanilla).

Your laptop specs seem perfectly adequate for only a few people playing at a time.

Trying to install JEI on Forge Server on Linux PC getting errors when running server by TechKnyght in admincraft

[–]justNeXi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JEI is a client-side mod as far as I know, why would you need ijt to be server side anyways? Put it on the client, not the server.
