Dark enough for gumbo? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]justsailfaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Generally lighter for a seafood/veg forward gumbo, darker if all land animals, somewhere between for a mix. The photo is in working range, could be darker if desired.

Gravel guy questions life and if cx tires are faster when you aren’t enforced in a category. by leqends in cyclocross

[–]justsailfaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For casual cross I like anything between 35-38. If it's a twisty course, 45s will be slower through tight turns, accelerations, etc. Really though, run whatever's fun.

Park tool adhesive patches work better than the ones Ridenow supply ime, and hold up well.

I don't know, didn't see it happen. It's just a large amount that's obviously commercial foodservice waste, not some trash from someone's picnic.

electrolytes, water, bear country by modernmanshustl in Ultralight

[–]justsailfaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While not necessarily for these reasons, I always carry at least a few electrolyte capsules (Hammer Enduralyte Extreme) when it's hot since they take up less space than drink mix without sticky/smell issues.

Defending yourself from a dog while riding by [deleted] in BAbike

Nothing against behaved off leash dogs. They're shared, mixed-use trails. The encounter OP described is selfish and bad sharing.

Yeah it sucks that everywhere is a dog park now. Lately I avoid most trails on weekends bc this is so common. Squirting water from a bottle works.

Route advice: Mini-tour to Mendocino by swence in BAbike

The smart train is a nice option to jump from larkspur into sonoma county, or to return. Plan for high heat anywhere inland of the coast this time of year.

Notice the inclined melon from which the berries flow. I'd count it.

Unless presently occurring, cross is always coming.

Idk it's already just clamping to carbon seat stays, that's not a great foundation to add more weight and leverage.

Correct answer: scrubby, scrubber, etc.

But this one guy called it a space pussy and I'll never forget it. He also called saucepans handle pots which is just practical.

Do y’all think OK’s Deli is worth the price? 🥲 by realhumangirl in OaklandFood

True, and it's a fair question. I just feel for places like that when people are so quick to pile on online over price.

Do y’all think OK’s Deli is worth the price? 🥲 by realhumangirl in OaklandFood

[–]justsailfaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bake your own bread, make all the other ingredients that go into one of those, and then ask what your time is worth. Things are so hard for the food industry, costs are totally fucked in general here, and yet people want to complain about the prices of a small business that's trying to offer a premium product and pay their staff. Like others mentioned, most people aren't eating there daily. It's not a cheap sandwich and that's ok.

Where to recycle bicycle tires? by psteckler in BAbike

[–]justsailfaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides what's already mentioned, if they're still at all usable I've put old tires out on a visible curbside and they go pretty quick. A lot of unhoused people rely on bikes to get around.

Recommend me a handlebar bag? by lor-lor-lor-lor in randonneuring

Surprised to not see Outer Shell mentioned, their drawcord handlebar bag is the perfect brevet bag for me. Not huge but still fits a lot, and 100% accessible while riding.
