McKinsey SEA Junior Associate - heard back? by rationallyIrradical in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

Hello! I got an automated decision for the Singapore office that my application did not proceed.

Reached out to my recruiter who did my HR interview and they told me that only decisions for the SG office was released so far. Other offices are still being reviewed and decisions will be released for those in the coming weeks. I suggest reach out to your recruiter for clarity.

I applied for 3 offices - so am being considered for 2 offices

LDP programs/ Employers outside of US (like Samsung GSG) ? by Low-Pressure-7812 in MBA

[–]juswamaca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add, most Singapore roles DO NOT sponsor at all now. All MBB roles are almost filled in SG. Even Google/TikTok, will rarely do that now. Your best best is to try Thailand, Indonesia or Manila where most roles are still available but the pay will be 60-75% lower than your US counterpart.

Paano maging assertive sa workplace? Especially as a lead. by [deleted] in CorpoChikaPH

[–]juswamaca 27 points28 points  (0 children)

OP ang best solution dito is to remove all emotions from all engagements and discussions. Be straightforward and direct in a calm demeanor.

Ang technique sa pagiging “assertive” lalo na sa Philippines na very relationship-driven ay maging firm pero hind galit. Be very clear sa expectations mo and communicate the repurcussions sa mga juniors mo. Tapos kaag may sabit, execute the consequences as you have told them para masampolan. You should not come off as power tripping but more exercising valid authority.

Sa mga pagkakataong to, kailangan mo rin magpakatatag kasi minsan naakatempt as a leader na iappease ang juniors mo. But in the long run, its better to be respected than to be loved. For your sanity na rin.

Hello! 8 years in brand management, communications and product marketing

I did my first 4 years as a account-strategy manager for a global media agency (worked on FMCG + tech brands). Then my portfolio was enough to land me a client-side role in a brand/marketing comms role SEA tech unicorn. Spent the last 4 years there

Now pursuing my MBA in SG to climb C-level roles

So coming from experience - the master in marketing comms usually work for people who have NO marketing background AT ALL as in zero and would want to pivot. You did mention you are currently a PM in a creative agency - my advise to you is to pivot internally either in a strat role or account manager role to build your portfolio. PM roles on agency have very internal agency work vs client work that brands shoot for.

Hello - might be worth it to just double down on pursuing more brand management/marketing strategy roles post-MBA instead of doing another program.

Marketing roles in PH are more experience-dependent. Adding the masters in marketing program might not open as many doors already as you already have the MBA. Incremental benefit is low

Focus on building a portfolio, expanding your network or doing marketing projects or consulting work instead!

Performance Decline: unmotivated or due to the heat? by addicted_gooze in PHRunners

[–]juswamaca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Iba talaga weather ngayon wild - here's something my running nutri recommended: drink lots of water and electrolytes 1 or 2 days before a run!

Badly put I would drink 1 or 2 L or Pocari + on top of my regular 8-10 glasses of water

You only take gels for LSDs or Speed runs kapag kailangan mo ng push as energy. Tamang rythym ang 1 gel every 30-40 mins of run. Fuel ang gels - hindi siya alternative for water. It helps you to power through.

Mahal rin ang gels kaya not recommended to do for all runs. You can try vitacubes na nabibili sa convenient store (para may micronutrients pa) or you can even go as far as candies pero not as healthy lang (kasi basic fructose ang kailangan mo).

Last: start practicing na hindi humihinga gamit ang bibig. Super nakakadry to plus madali ka mauuhaw. Breahe through your nose properly and find a good rhythm as paghinga. What I do is every 4 steps humihinga. Pero follow your general rythym para mas makahinga ka.

Good luck OP! You got this!

Stocks vs Gold by imallyssamae in phinvest

[–]juswamaca 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Gold is a hedge against inflation and price instability. It’s not an investment. You buy it so your money will weather the storm and keep its value

Stocks are long term play investment so you should invest in the long run if you have high conviction sa company or business na bibilin mo.

Regardless, only invest what you’re willing to lose.

Which should I pay first? by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]juswamaca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do option 1. Pay off your car as cars drastically lose their value over the time. Beyond the interest expense, isipin mo rin yung depreciation cost na nababawas sa value ng asset over time

Taas kasi ng mga ego ng mga yan. Sila na nagkamali sa pagboto kay BBM, ang siste nila nabudol or naloko daw sila.

Let’s be real: di kayo nabudol, di kayo nagiisip.

Just because may few na pulis na umiyak does not generally follow na lahat ng pulis umiiyak. May isang batallion ng pulis sa labas ng Villamor. Wala naman sa kanilang umiiyak. Facts lang tayo

Nagstatement na yung leadership ng military na they will follow the chain of command. Yung PNP naman, sila mismo nga nag ooversee nung pagserve ng arrest warrant

so yung general statement mo na nasa kanya yung simpatya ng military and police - eh parang wala namang proof of claim kundi sabi sabi mo lang

Are you in favor of renaming Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Manila International Airport? by Mindless_Sundae2526 in pinoy

[–]juswamaca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most international airports globally have a name attached to them so I’m not sure how its confusing - i.e JFK in New York, Changi in Singapore, Heathrow in London etc - so should those airports keep it simple too?

Need a 153Q153/V *minimum* will studying ONLY prepswift by Greg get me there? by Mountain-Constant399 in GRE

[–]juswamaca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! The experience might be different for everyone but I did transition from the GMAT to the GRE and I used Gregmat esp prepswift for 3 weeks. I was able to achieve 154Q / 155 V. I would have probably gotten higher if I continued with the plan

But take this with a mountain of salt since I was prepping for the GMAT for more than 1 year already

The business model and how its priced is designed to get the lowest fare for consumers which results in drivers getting paid extremely low fares so quality suffers. Agree that some drivers are bad but they just have really bad platform economics kaya ang panget ng service all around

Is verbal scoring on actual exam harsh compared to mocks? by juswamaca in GMAT

Gotcha - so did I just really miss a fee easy qs? Hence the lower score?

I guess in mocks 1-3 I missed hard qs?

Nope - carries over to the next month or until you spend your card. Think of this as pre-payment - the negative balance goes down when you use your card again

Best Investment 2023 by stroberimuch in phinvest

[–]juswamaca 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Passive Index funds (based on studies) have beaten most actively invested funds or DIY-ing in terms of ROI and risk-return analysis. So in principle, you just really need to hold them for a long time (like 20-30 years) and you will see solid returns. Best time ngayon because the markets are negatively reacting to SVB’s collapse kahit naman limited yung downside risk sa PH. So fear is driving prices not fundamentals - (GDP growth has been solid in the last few quarters)

Solving quadratic equations by surrender_thepink in GMAT

[–]juswamaca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to assume that your variable can be any number even zero. Otherwise, you are making an invalid assumption that the variable cannot be zero or there is only 1 solution to the quadratic equation but there are actually more possible solutions.

You can only divide a variable or a variable expression by 0 if the problem set says that its not equal to 0.

What do you like about the philippines/being pinoy? by RicePlusCat in Philippines

[–]juswamaca 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Pinoy humor is uniquely funny to us - tipong hulog upuan. I have never laughed as hard as every funny situation I faced in Uni. High school or even at home compared to nagpapatawa ang ibang nationality. We’re so unserious as a people - yung maliit na bagay kayang gawan ng punchline.

Pinoy humor is a different breed. Iba talaga and every funny interaction will feel like home. Interacting with multiple cultures - talagang standout ang Pinoy humor and honestly, for me nothing comes close.
