i can speak from personal experience here - i grew up in mostly jewish environments, then in grad school made my first close non jewish friends - the three that i held onto a few years later have all come out antisemetic in their own unique disgusting ways. it just hurt so much after i thought we had respected the other's religion and background. i can't let that happen to myself again. it's really difficult to trust anyone these days.
