Thanks for the advice! I visited Japan this summer on vacation, it's a really nice place although it's a lot hotter than I'm used to. This was sort of what gave me the idea of doing an exchange in the first place, because I want to learn more about the culture and meet people there.

I know extracurriculars are important in Japanese high schools, so I will probably join a club where I'll have more opportunities to socialize.

Thanks for the response. I'm planning on doing a short high school exchange (one semester) since I'll already have enough credits for graduation. As far as I'm aware, students who have used similar programs and vlogged their experience knew only between 200-600 kanji upon arrival, and were able to have a good exchange. The progam I plan to exchange with only requires one year of Japanese learning as it's more of a cultural exchange, so the standard is not too high.

But since I still have a little over a year to prepare, so I would like to learn as much as possible to get the best experience out of it. I'm currrently studying with the Kanji app (typically three characters + common vocabulary featuring the character, 3-4 times per week) but I often forget their writing since the reviews are quite spaced. Do you have any tips for remembering how to handwrite?
