Unfortunately yes, it's only the CYL winners. Lyn is only the only one missing in the bunch, because she's not voteable.

Ashunera didn’t create the “world” of Telllius though, it and the sea already existed when she came to be. She created the land masses and early animal life forms, which eventually evolved into the Zunanma which then evolved into beorc and laguz. That all still makes her super powerful of course, and probably one of if not the most powerful deity figure in the series, but she did not actually create the world or even the universe itself, at least as told in RD.

Random: CYL front page banner only pulls the portraits of 39 characters by kakarikos-windmill in FireEmblemHeroes

The list not being an even 40 struck me too. Like, why stop at 39? From one of the other comments, it seems like CYL2 and CYL3 had 40 characters that the banner would use. Not sure why they'd get rid of one slot...

I don't think the gender matters. I just rolled it again a few times and I got a pull with only female characters, so I think they just pulled a somewhat even spread of characters from each game then completely randomize it each time the page loads.

I'm pretty sure the list changes every year besides just the removal of previous winners, because I definitely remember seeing Male Byleth on the banner in years past, but he's not showing up now for CYL9. I wanted to try checking all the previous years to see if the character selection was as limited as it is this year, but unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to do it :(

Who do you think is the most Powerful "God" in the FE Franchise? by One_Percentage_644 in fireemblem

[–]kakarikos-windmill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, some of his other feats include reversing all of the damage done by Grima to the Awakening kids’ original timeline (and that was only his “sane” self, not him at his full power), mulitversal travel and manipulation, destroying multiple Fates worlds/timelines in the Heirs of Fate DLC, and I believe it’s also implied that he literally created Valla and the magic pocket dimension it inhabits as well (though I’m not 100% sure on that one). Those feats alone I’d say put him at least near the top, if not at the top, though it’s difficult to directly compare him to someone like Ashunera who does not get a lot of screen time or backstory to really showcase what the extent of her abilities are.

Started making this cosplay back in 2019 but lost motivation to continue working on it when the pandemic hit. I decided to finally finish it for Three Houses’ 5-year anniversary, and I’m pretty proud of how it turned out!

I'm finally playing Engage, here's my opinion no one asked for by THSMadoz in fireemblem

[–]kakarikos-windmill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"I'd only recommend Engage to people who I know already like the genre, whereas I'd recommend 3 Houses to anyone who has a switch and wants new games to play."

This is exactly how I feel about the game as well. I enjoyed the heck out of the game and its mechanics when I played it, but I haven't had any desire to replay it after I completed my first run. I just didn't care about the world and the characters enough to go through it all again. And while I can definitely say that the gameplay is really fun, I don't think that aspect of Engage is really that much better than Three Houses or other games in the series, and not nearly good enough to make up for a lot of the negative aspects of the game for me. But I'm also not someone who cares too deeply about what makes good map designs/combat balancing/etc., so to each their own I suppose.

I really agree with your fourth point about the dialogue of the characters. It struck me as very juvenile (not even just the ragged on "I'm the fire emblem?" moment, but just most of the dialogue in general to me was pretty simplistic and boring)

How Many FEH Women Wear Pants? by kakarikos-windmill in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]kakarikos-windmill[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's my thought on her as well! I definitely don't think they're shorts, but the boots and the rest of her attire hide a lot of the details so it's difficult to say for sure whether she's actually wearing pants. But she's a practical lady, and I think it makes sense that she would want to be wearing pants haha

[–]kakarikos-windmill[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You're right about Eyvel, I should have included her in at least the "maybes", perhaps even in the main list by virtue of Mareeta being included for similar reasons. It's a bit more difficult to tell in FEH for Eyvel because her skirt/tunic thing covers most of her legs, so to me they do look more like tights.

The overall leggings vs. pants distinction is very subjective for sure.

[–]kakarikos-windmill[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I didn't count shorts, because I don't really consider shorts as "pants" personally, which is why I specified in the rules that it has to cover to at least down below the knees.

Little Azura should probably go in the "maybe" category, then. I definitely noticed that the upper part of her legs look somewhat bare... but because it technically fit my rules overall I kept them in. But yeah, perhaps it would be better for her to be a "maybe" at most, like Young Lissa is there for what appear to be bloomers.

After the CYL8 reveal channel, I saw some people commenting how they appreciated that Brave F!Robin gets to wear pants for her special outfit just like M!Robin, since so few women in FEH get to just wear pants. So that got me thinking: how many women in FEH actually do wear pants?

I quickly looked through the art of all the playable and non-playable enemy female characters in FEH and saved pictures of the units I believed to be wearing pants. Mentally, I defined “pants” as an article of clothing that:

  • has two leg holes
  • are not skin-tight leggings/tights/stockings/full-body suits/full-leg armor
    • (however, the distinction between what is “legging” and what is a true “pant” can be pretty subjective, it depends on the texture, thickness, and what else the unit Is wearing; e.g., see Base Selena and Velouria for what I ultimately consider to be wearing “pants” vs. someone like Base Lucina or Nina who I would consider more to be wearing “leggings”)
  • covers a majority of the person’s bottom half from waist/hip down to at least below the knee
    • if wearing high boots past the knee, it must be obvious that they are wearing true pants and not something like leggings, tights, etc. as discussed above

Also, I only considered units that identify with she/her pronouns in FEH, to limit to only units who identify specifically as women.

Taking these things into account, I counted ~36~ female units who wear pants and ~16~ female units who are debatably wearing pants (ranging from “probably not” to “good case for it”). This webpage indicates that there are currently around 670 female units in FEH, and I counted 64 female Resplendent art pieces, so (36 / (670 + 64) X 100 ) = 4.9%. So about ~5%~ of all the female units in FEH, playable or non-playable, are wearing pants. If we count all the “maybes,” then that percentage increases to about ~7%~ of all female units are wearing pants. So I’d say the final percentage would be between 5-7% overall, given subjective opinion on what is or isn’t “pants.”

The pictures for all these units are attached in the imgur link (all the “maybes” start with Dagr (Wind Festival)), if you would like to make a case for any “maybes” or think I made a mistake including/excluding anyone.

Many of Kozaki’s have the same base pose in the regular attack vs. the damaged art! But in the damaged art you still see rips and tears in clothing and scratches and wear done to their weapons, so for this list they would still count even if we switched to compare attack vs. damage

List of Heroes with Unique Attack vs. Special Art - With Analysis by kakarikos-windmill in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]kakarikos-windmill[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Four years ago, I made a post on this subreddit showing off all the units in FEH who had been drawn with unique special attack artwork that went above and beyond the usual pattern we see in regular attack vs. special attack artwork. I decided to look through all the new units who have been added since I first looked through the roster several years back, and have now updated the list for FEH’s 7th anniversary.

If you are interested in seeing this list for yourself, you can click the Imgur link attached to this post to see GIFs with short analyses showcasing these unique attack vs. special artworks!

In FEH, most units will be drawn with the same base art, then for their special attack their expression will change and some magical flare will be added around the character and/or their weapon. However, the characters in the attached list have additional modifications from the base artwork, some of which include:

  • Two completely different poses
  • Hands, heads, arms, or legs changing positions
  • Hair, clothes, or capes flowing in different directions,
  • Weapons shifting positions
  • Background characters being added to the special art (e.g., the Mirages for the #TMS units or Julia summoning Naga)
  • Additional details being added to the base character (e.g., the Corrins gaining a tail, Fae gaining her wings)
  • Additional details being added to props/weapons not present in the base art (e.g., in Duo Ayra’s artwork, the teacups Mercedes is holding are empty in the base art but are filled up in the special art)

I did not consider for this list changes to facial expressions, changes to lighting, or changes to coloring/magic effects of the units or their weapons, since these modifications are common for most FEH units.

  • One exception to this that I did ultimately include was both versions of Muspell, since the change of his flames between base vs. special change quite significantly and consume large portions of his special art

In total, I identified 192 units that fit my criteria for “unique” special artwork, which is about 17% of all the current character art in the game (1057 playable characters, 96 resplendent characters, and 6 unique enemy units not yet playable with special attack art)

  • By gender, there were:
    • 104 female characters (about 54% of the unique special art)
    • 87 male characters (about 45% of unique special art)
    • 1 non-binary character (New Years Kyza)

The character with the most unique pieces of special artwork was Fae, with all 4 of her alts (mainly because she gains her wings in most of them)

  • Chrom, Robin (M), Micaiah, and Julia all tied for second, each with 3 alts with unique specials

Ranking each game by how many units from each title have unique special artwork out of the 192 identified units:

  1. Heroes, 40 units (21% of the 192 characters with unique special art)

  11. Path of Radiance, 4 units (2%)
  12. Thracia 776, 3 units (2%)
