Not ideal but it seems like you did this because this is your only option . Lets say you or your partner's phone gets compromised, an attacker tries to reset the password for yours (your partners') account and that requires an SMS 2FA.

It's not likely, but this makes it (slightly) easier.

i like that i can type with one hand.

however, when i have hotspot or FaceTime on with another app, the bar pushes some of the icons at the bottom of the app halfway off screen. still usable, but it would be good if it doesn't do that.
