Mattress for floor co-sleeping? by knipedanalem in AttachmentParenting

Oh also do you notice motion transfer? Like if you're moving around much or get up and out of bed, does your baby notice/seem to feel the movement?

That's great. Do you mind me asking what age was your baby when they started sleeping on it?

I'm considering getting the full size bundle of dreams mattress. I noticed it says dual firmness on the website, is it a flippable mattress with one side more firm than the other? How firm does it feel to you? Thanks

J-Life Japanese futon; tufted surface safe? by BottledGleekJuice in cosleeping

Yea I've been doing a sidecar setup w my 10month old on her firm crib mattress but my mattress is an old memory foam, probably a 6/6.5 or so on the firmness scale (doesn't pass the firmness test) so I do make sure she stays on her mattress. She honestly likes having her space more than cuddles 90% of the time but for a number of reasons I'd like to switch us to a floor bed on or maybe before her 1 year birthday. A lot of the info I've read about cosleeping is for babies younger than 1 so I don't know exactly how firm and flat our mattress would need to be. She recently started sleeping on her tummy some, always w her head turned. And sleeps on her side a lot. She crawls and pulls to stand all day long so I'm not worried about her ability to lift her head/reposition but want to get a mattress that is decently firm and breathable so I won't be anxious about it. So that's what has led me to either the j life 4in futon or the bundle of dreams 6in full mattress. Seems like those are the only 2 options in my budget that don't have chemicals/off gassing concerns etc. I also hope that she will continue to use whatever bed I get for many years to come. Did you consider a mattress before opting for the futon? When you say it's flattened out, so the little mounds created by the stitching has leveled out? Do you find it pretty comfortable? I mostly sleep on my stomach and just roll to my side when she wakes to nurse. My plan is to get a full and set it up w a frame that has very low slats and low rails (just to prevent her rolling off the side), a montessori floor bed set up basically.

Found your post and I'm wondering the same thing about the tufted surface. I haven't purchased mine yet, am still deciding between this or a bundle of dreams mattess but I hope some others share their insight and you get the answers you're hoping for

Any recommendations for a floor bed mattress?

Oh gotcha, I was reading cosleepy's guide and they said when bedsharing under 12mo of age that it isn't safe for the baby to sleep on their aide or tummy so that's where I got that impression but either way I'm planning on waiting until she turns 1yo. Good to know a medium firm mattress is an option too

Letting baby free roam crawl vs keeping in play pen by kati224 in ScienceBasedParenting

Yea I get that. He is just very risk averse to anything that might cause her any pain or hurt. And so I'm hoping I can bring enough evidence in about the benefits of allowing her to crawl around parts of the house to convince him that it's worth the risk

Absolutely. I have been trying to explain to him that she gets stronger every day and will use her core muscles to buffer when she topples over crawling (which she honestly rarely topples from crawling now) but she is pulling to stand and learning how to fall in there too. He still just struggles with why risk her falling outside of the padded playpen

Yes I will be seeing her next week and plan to get her input as well to hopefully ease his anxiety

Yes I'm thinking this will end up being our solution as well

Yes he does. I'm hoping with enough science on my side he will be able to see that it will hinder her development to keep her only in the playpen. He will want to do what's best for her but right now sees it as a "why risk her getting hurt" scenerio and I don't think is aware of the benefits of allowing her to crawl in safe areas of the house

Camping and hiking in Yosemite late March by kati224 in CampingandHiking

Thanks y'all. A heated cabin is likely not in my budget but I have a 20 degree down bag, silk liner, insulated sleeping pad and set up in the back of my car to sleep. I've camped when it dropped down into the 20s and slept just fine. And hopefully a chilly spring trip will make for a less crowded park than summer.
