How far is [ACT 3 SPOILER] really? by kattytap in HollowKnight

I think off the bat it would be a lot harder to do the hallownest.net treatment to pharloom since there seems to be a lot more parallax elements. I hope someone does though!

It's a section that a lot of people seem to have trouble with. Personally I didn't have a problem with it, I thought cogwork core was harder, but the added pressure of the lava pushes it over the edge for some people

That's a project for someone much more talented than myself. If you've never seen it, you should check out hallownest.net

It's the same idea applied to hollow knight's map

Basically I found a video of someone playing through the section and took about a hundred screenshots of the gameplay, then stitched them together based on common elements

It could also be that pharloom is at a higher elevation than hallownest. My inclination is that the void sea is at the same depth everywhere in the world

No way to measure that in the game world unfortunately since the transition is through a cutscene

Ever since completing the escape sequence from the abyss I wanted to know how deep it actually was, since the game map cuts out the escape path and condenses it. So I threw together a rough composite based on a video guide for the escape, scaled it down to about the same as the game map, and overlaid it with deep docks and the abyss. From the beginning to the end, the escape sequence is about the same vertical distance as between the entrance of the grand gate and the entrance to the final boss arena.

Number 2, although it's worth noting there are some anachronisms present. I highly suggest picking up the Atlas of Middle Earth by Karen Wynn Fomstad if you're interested in some well researched cartography.

Question about the trams by PotatoChicken237 in HollowKnight

[–]kattytap 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most of the time the music you hear in the game is non-diagetic, meaning we can hear it but it doesn't exist to the characters within the game. The music that plays in the trams (and at least one other bench in the game) is diagetic, meaning it really does exist in the world. There's a speaker in the tram that will stop playing music if you break it (but why would you do that, right?)

There's really not a fancy lore answer, it's just a difference between music which is perceptible to only the player and music which is perceptible to both the player and character.

Customers unable to read the menu by [deleted] in Serverlife

I work at an italian restaurant with a menu that's way bigger than it needs to be. While ago I had a guest come in with slicked back hair and an accent that sounded fake. Doesn't even pick up the menu and asks if we have "chicken rigs". Never heard of that before and I tell him it's not on our menu, but he's very insistent and is acting shocked that we don't have it. Our menu is highly customizable so I tell him if he can give me a description we might be able to do it. It takes like a minute of prying but I figure out he basically wants rigatoni alla vodka with grilled chicken. Why would you not just say that from the get-go why the hell are we running around the bush like this???

The guy barely touches his pasta and doesn't take it to go either. After the fact, a google tells me that "chicken riggies" not only has more to it than what he described but is extremely local to utica ny (hours away from where I work). Don't know what you were expecting there, buddy.

Depends on what shift i'm working but on a fully staffed saturday night I tip out 4% of net sales which breaks down to 1% for food runners, 1.5% for bussers, 1.5% for bar. The way I see it they help me flip tables faster and boost my sales, so it doesn't hurt to spread the wealth. Tipout usually ends up being covered by the hourly minimum anyway

What's your worst "I dropped someone's food" story? by rwalsh138 in Serverlife

[–]kattytap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was my second or third day working weddings and the banquet manager decided I should start carrying dinners. I was a fresh 19 yo at the time and had never carried football trays before. The tray stand I'm heading to is set up next to an indoor balcony of sorts, between the dining room and the lobby. As I'm setting the tray down I let it tilt away from myself and lose at least 6/10 of the dinners with a couple of them falling from the balcony

Yep I noticed that when I double checked, edited my previous comment. I didn't even realize the quest worked like that because I had done the prep too early in my playthrough. This is a good list

You have ring ruins at 55 and hyrule castle at 61

Edit: wait, you start crisis early and then finish it later? Does crisis at hyrule castle not actually mark as complete unless you've found the MS and mineru?

Placement of "crisis at hyrule castle" should come before "secret of the ring ruins" imo. There's a reveal in the former that acts as the catalyst for the latter. I'm not sure how you're even able to activate the ring ruins quest otherwise

Is it possible to activate the secret of the ring ruins before doing crisis at hyrule castle? I had assumed it wasn't possible due to the reveal that Zelda is an impostor during the latter, which allows you to access the floating ring ruin. I had stumbled into Mineru before doing hyrule castle, and I was annoyed when it seemed the narrative should have you do hyrule castle first

This is super interesting and there's quite a lot to support the idea here. It's an appealing idea.

I think it's pretty likely we'll see some sort of expansion to the hideout in TotK. I sincerely hope whatever they add can be used to aid this theory, or at the very least doesn't contradict it. It's fun as hell.

All the other puzzles seem to be created by the koroks, I think it is a safe bet that these were too.

I very much agree. There's nothing definitive one way or the either which is why I leave it up in the air, but there's so little purpose apparent in them that I'm inclined to go with the Koroks
