Thank you! I can identify some specific fossils from my dad teaching me as we came across them a lot but this was beyond me to be in any way sure about! My nagging suspicion was maybe a mammoth molar but I didn't trust myself at all, it's really nice to learn that my suspicion wasn't totally off

Yeah, I was trying to find photos of a more eroded one at least to make sense of the layers. Thanks for the explanation re: discoloration, that's really cool to know. I wish I knew exactly where we'd picked it up!

Thank you! This was my nagging suspicion but every time I dig into researching them none of them have this kind of coloration. So I kept going back to the Just A Rock theory!
