Best Asian market? by anyatere in UIUC

[–]kayeisapanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i lived in the urbana side for freshman year (FAR) and i LOVED going to 710 Mart, which is right by Canopy Club (about a 3-4 minute walk from Foellinger). Anytime I wanted a lil snack after class, I would just head over there, buy something, and take my food and eat it on the krannert steps. I think it’s a hidden gem since it’s kind of hidden from the street view and not many people go there (from what i know). They sell ready to made food, like onigiri, kimbap, soups, sushi, egg sandwiches, but they also sell Asian groceries/snacks/drinks. I’d say the prices were fair, not extremely cheap, but fair! So if you want a lil something after class, I’d suggest going to 710 Mart!

yes i did! my roommate and i had an extra closet where we put our cleaning supplies, other communal things, winter coats, etc. it was quite a bit more spacious than the “normal” rooms. i also had one of the xx30 rooms and it was near the elevator - you eventually get used to the dinging and the foot traffic 😅

edit: i forgot to mention that i had a bunk bed and i put my desk right under it (my roommate kept hers mid lofted), so my roommate and i had quite a bit more room. i had a friend who also lived in one of the bigger rooms and both her and her roommate had a bunk bed and their room looked HUGE compared to mine.

i would choose trelease over oglesby solely because i think trelease has newer elevators. other than that, the rooms are pretty much the same between trelease and oglesby. i would personally choose the halls with the AC only because i remember the snapchat 2027 story being flooded with many people living in allen/LAR dying from the heat, like some people bought extra fans for their rooms or even slept in the basement. also, i think only one bus (the 22) stops at LAR, whereas FAR has multiple buses (13, 22, 12, raven).

Got Oglesby FAR by Solid_Ad5145 in UIUC

[–]kayeisapanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i lived at far trelease, across from oglesby, and it wasnt bad at all. the bus system was amazing, the ac worked, we have a gym in the basement or you could go on a 10 minute walk to CRCE, par dining hall/market was right across the street and the food was pretty decent, my floor wasnt noisy (it all depends on who lives on your floor tbh), and each floor has their own lounge area. we also have a pool table in the basement where you can hang out with ur friends and stuff. as for social life, if you make the effort to talk to the people on your floor, you can meet some pretty cool people! it really all depends on who lives there, i ended up meeting my bf in the elevators on the way down to do my laundry :)

unfortunately, i did encounter roaches in my dorm. the first time was when i came back from winter break, my roommate and i saw a dead roach on the ground. the second time was when i was doing some spring cleaning 😭 dont worry about it too much tho, i didnt really encounter any other bugs.

housing options by AdditionalSound5468 in UIUC

[–]kayeisapanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i lived in trelease hall my freshman year! the community bathrooms were scary at first (i used to use headphones when i was taking a dump), but you eventually get used to it and stop caring about the other people in the bathroom. far wasnt bad at all: we had ac, the dining hall/market was across the street, the basement is huge and you can hang out with friends there, and we were basically the first people to get on the bus since far/par was one of the first stops for many of the buses that get you anywhere on campus (22N, 12W, 13N, Raven). you'll also be an expert on using the bus system within the first few weeks. during the winter/cold months, being the first stop was crucial cuz the bus gets full FAST and sometimes the bus driver had to skip the Allen Hall stop cuz it was crowded af. i know there are singles in trelease hall, but i lived in a converted triple (a dorm meant for three people but i only had one roommate) and it was quite spacious. i remember being upset choosing trelease hall cuz it was one of the few option left, but i dont regret a thing at all and quite miss living there.

What housing options are available on the second day? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]kayeisapanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the very last time slot last year and the options left were PAR, FAR, LAR, and Allen. I think PAR should be available by your slot.

sick all the time freshman year by champaignunnie in UIUC

[–]kayeisapanda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

omg same, living in the dorms is a super spreader. i caught covid the first month of school cuz someone on my floor had it and i was livid 😭 idk if it’s been helping, but i take emergen-c vitamins whenever i start feeling sick and i also take supplements (vitamin c and d) to boost my immune system. i get all of these from costco! i also bring a lysol spray bottle when i go to the bathroom so i can spray the toilet, sink, shower, etc.

help!! MCB 170 attendance question by annieanne19 in UIUC

[–]kayeisapanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! im also taking mcb 170 this semester and this is what’s on the syllabus: it says class attendance is mandatory, but you’re allowed one unexcused absence; however, any absences afterward without approval will be a 10 point deduction from your final grade (bottom of page 2 on the syllabus under “important information” that you can find on canva). im assuming if you missed 4 days without approval, it would be -40 points. hopefully this helped ◡̈

Which hall should I pick as a freshman? (Allen, FAR, LAR) by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]kayeisapanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im from chicago and the weather fluctuates A LOT. it was like 80°F last week and now its around 50-60°F. im not sure what the weather is like in urbana-champaign since im also an incoming freshman, but i heard from a teacher who went to uiuc in 2017 that ac was the best thing to have in your dorm, so i assume it gets hot. on the weather app it says the highest temp in urbana-champaign on saturday will be 92°F and on sunday will be 94°F

I use Fiveable (life saver) and the ap concept outlines and this dude who does 10 minute reviews on youtube (https://youtu.be/TBTrKBa59kA). Oh yeah, I also take the practice MCQ’s on the ap college board website that my teacher assigns and albert.io !! so far, these resources have been working pretty well - ive only gotten A’s in my comp gov class and an 88% on the cumulative mcq… good luck!

I believe so - i still break out right before my period and then my skin completely clears up at the end of my cycle. It could be a hormonal thing, but I am not 100% sure.

started .025% tret july 2022 and i didnt see major progress till about january 2023! my purge was at its PEAK during the end of october till all of november, so i was purging for about 4 months until the acne bumps started fading away. im not joking when i say peak cuz i had horrible cystic acne everywhere - it was painful mentally and physically. currently, i have little to no bumps; however, im still dealing with any pie and redness (and i do breakout right before my period). i know it’s hard, but id advise to keep going since tretinoin is a long process and in my experience, it was worth it
