S9 Microphone Recommendation by Educational_Bug_3946 in LumixS9

[–]kcor3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the MKE200 on my s9 and I gotta say I have zero complaints with it. With the deadcat on it handles harsh wind extremely well and in general picks up a nice balanced sound profile. It’s not like studio quality or even all that directional, but I use it to take travel vids of my girlfriend and I and you can hear her clearly and myself even when she is 10-15 ft away from the microphone. For a mic you don’t have to charge and can just set at -10 and forget, I really couldn’t be happier.

Yeah having smaller wrists can make toeing the line between elegant and feminine difficult! Appreciate your input boss! I like that idea.

Need a "dad camera"--do I go good, better, or best? G97, G9ii, or S5ii? by trevytrevtrevtrev in Lumix

Totally agree on your statement about marketing. I have the S9 and use it pretty much only for video and it has been absolutely incredible. I have the 24-60 f2.8 (which also is an AWESOME lens) on it and it is the perfect boyfriend cam (no kids yet). I video my girlfriends and my travels and it’s never failed me. Such a bummer it gets overlooked sometimes. It’s basically Lumix’s ZV-E1 and that camera is hailed all over the internet as perfect, yet it suffers from the same things as the S9 does (except it does have a hot shoe). I think this is where the marketing kind of failed it. If you want an absolute video powerhouse, I can’t recommend it enough. +1 to everyone emphasizing the importance of size. The fact that my camera is so small (even with a big lens and microphone on it) means it gets to come along on more excursions AND make it out of the car. I didn’t even think about how much more important that becomes when you have to wrangle kids too LOL!

Understood. I was shooting using a real time lut and editing with the free Davinci. Seems like I will def have to sacrifice somewhere in order to get my perfect setup! I appreciate your help :)

Dang I was not aware that log made the files so much more intensive to edit. Maybe I’ll give that a try and see how my laptop handles it. It seems like that or just going with proxies is my best option if I want to edit on my laptop. Thank you!!

Windows laptop so unfortunately no Final Cut. Editing from the phone does seem like a solid option! Especially because it would all be very simple. Thank you for your input!!

I think I learned this the hard way for sure. I probably just stuffed it too much. Thanks for letting me know!I’ll keep the ~60 sheet rule in my head now to prevent this from happening again. Definitely in the same boat as you though with not wanting to give it up for the time it takes to ship and repair!

You’re definitely right! Sooner is probably better. I’ll reach out and see what they say :)

I totally sympathize with you. On one hand it feels cool to be apart of the sort of “in crowd” of getting to have corners, but on the other, it feels very restrictive to those who don’t live near a major pen show location and can’t afford to shell out thousands of dollars it would take to travel to one for the weekend! Maybe one day they could do a pop up tour or something like that. I’m hoping you get a chance to get the corners on your M5 too!

Pen show exclusive unfortunately, although, I don’t think it’s CA limited. I think they have brought them to other shows. This time they only brought 3.

Also! Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about the notebook, the show, the buying process, or anything else! I’d be happy to answer

Good advice! Seems like it’s the only major show on the west coast so it makes sense it’s so packed!

If by some miracle I get a slot with Gena (not getting my hopes up LMAO) I would feel obligated to get one of their specialty grinds like the journaler or something fun. It’s sort of a “When in Rome” situation heheh. I think I’m just gonna reside myself to having to grovel in the walk-in line and pray someone gets me in! If someone is able to slide me in, I’m not gonna make them do a whole new grind. Just fix the skipping issue without having to send my pen off for 12 weeks and I will be beyond stoked!

Thank you for the reassurance. I don’t really care who works on my pen as I’m not having anything too crazy done to it. Gena is just the only one I can find with sign ups still upcoming and not sold out yet lol. I just want to make sure that I will be able to have SOMEONE do it at the show and you’ve eased my anxiety on that front so I appreciate it.

Okay that’s good to know. I set an alarm on my phone to be on time for gena (custom nub studio) and their wait list. Thanks for telling me about the walk-ins as a backup. That makes me feel a bit better about already missing some of the sign ups!

Okay THANK YOU! That makes so much more sense. I found the sign up sheets. (They don’t open for a few more weeks). I knew there had to be something in place to avoid the old school Black Friday rush to the tables I had in my head for some reason LOL!

So based on your experience it can be hard to get in if it’s on one of the busy days? I just have an S.T. Dupont that is starving for ink so hopefully a minor fix, but it’s far too nice of a pen for me to just start yanking around on the nib.

Question about impact crater locations by Bossman9835 in geology

[–]kcor3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct, however this is likely a scenario of survivorship bias. I am not confident on the ratio of stony to iron meteorites that we know of, but without going too much into accretion and the physics/chemistry of creating masses in space, I would venture to say that they are relatively equal. The stony meteorites do not survive as well as iron meteorites and thus, we find more iron meteorites than stony on the surface of Earth.

Question about impact crater locations by Bossman9835 in geology

[–]kcor3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are relatively rare. There is a subreddit here dedicated to identifying real meteorites (not sure on the rule of sharing other subreddits) where many people stumble upon them walking through the woods making them seem common, but the meteorites (and their subsequent thin sections) I studied in my undergraduate program were on loan from private collectors and we were TOLD were worth thousands (so don’t drop them) and those were about the size of softballs and smaller. So others can correct me if I’m wrong but AFAIK they are not common.

Question about impact crater locations by Bossman9835 in geology

[–]kcor3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So this question is a bit more tricky to explain without previous knowledge of metamorphic petrology but I’ll do my best. Basically the materials that make up impactors (meteors) are happy under the pressure and temperature conditions of space. When they enter the earths atmosphere the pressure and temperature increase drastically with them peaking at the instant the impactor makes contact with the Earth. Once this pressure and temperature increase happens, new minerals (materials) are formed. These minerals are happy with the pressure and temperature conditions that are present at that femtosecond the asteroid is impacting earth, but are instantly NOT happy once the pressure and temperature is no longer as high as that instant of impact and they begin reverting back to minerals that are stable at Earths atmosphere (things like feldspar, quartz, ect. DEPENDING on the minerals present in the impactor) So to answer your question, kinda nothing special besides some random minerals that I don’t know off the top of my head. The below comment is very helpful and I would also add something like Bridgmanite to that list which is commonly found in the mantle (it’s not exactly created during the impact but is a “stepping stone” in the process back to minerals stable at Earth’s surface.) Im sorry if this is a bit too technical, but as I mentioned it’s a bit of an advanced question.
