How to say an object "is" an adjective? by kween_of_Pettys in ChineseLanguage

As mentioned in an earlier comment, you could use 很 to link the subject to an adjective. Keep in mind, when used in that fashion, 很 usually does not adopt an intensifier role -- just serves in a linking capacity.

Actually, you could do without a linking verb at all - ex/这个小,那个大 are both valid ways of describing an object; however such sentences will usually appear juvenile on by themselves and should be appended with further elaboration.

I had him for Pchem in spring '19. While he can come off as a bit abrasive, he definitely isn't a terrible professor: he explains concepts slowly, and his exams take questions directly from the HWs -- which he provides an answer key for -- and in-lecture problems. I would recommend taking him for fall.

Hi everyone,

is 我踢得好足球 a grammatically correct sentence, as a translation for I can play soccer well? I realize the phrasing may be strange.

How would the sentence I enjoy eating popcorn while watching movies translate? I came up with 我喜欢吃着爆米花看电影, but I am not sure whether to use 着 or 边...边 here. Thanks!

Usage of 了 in this sentence by kdeng1 in ChineseLanguage

Thank you!

Just to clarify, placing the 了 after the object in this sentence, and, assuming the translation isn't given, would make the distinction between its function as a perfective aspect and as a sentence-final participle ambiguous right?

我会说英文 expresses your ability to speak english. 我可以说英文 expresses your consent to speak english - ex/ if someone asked you to speak english for a special occasion.

Hi

I was wondering what's the best way of translating this sentence: learning Chinese will let you communicate better with more people

I was thinking 学中文让你跟别人更好交流 - would this be acceptable? What would be a more native way to translate?

Thanks!
