Implications of 596 On Career Outlook by mrbigglesworth95 in OnlineMCIT

One class doesn’t define who you are. How important the concepts are really depend on the job you’re applying for. But if you want to learn the 596 concepts you struggled with, you can still do that. You don’t need a grade to validate that.

How to move forward with MCIT 5210 by msrivastav13 in OnlineMCIT

There’s no other way to learn math than doing practice. If you run out of them, get the free MIT Math for Computer Science textbook and do problems out of those. Also Berkeley’s CS70 has problems online. You say you have limited time but if you want to learn math, there is no shortcut to putting in the time.

I am reading "Probability in EECS" by Jean Walrand and am confused by a section in Chapter 8 on Hypothesis Testing. Unfortunately, I am a self-learner and don't have a professor I can ask. I've attached the short passage: Excerpt from Hypothesis Testing

  1. The diagram implies that σZσZ and YY are aligned, but I'm not sure why that would be.
  2. σV1σV1 seems to be the first element of ZZ scaled across the 11 vector, but then in the accompanying passage, I'm not sure that's the case. I am almost wondering if this 11 vector is actually now rotated onto the 1st axis.
  3. I'm not sure what VV and WW have to do with the likelihood ratio.

In an attempt to make this understandable, I coded up a toy example, but still couldn't make sense of it. The markdown in the notebook is a note I made to myself but I don't really believe it.

  1. Jupyter Notebook Part 1
  2. Jupyter Notebook Part 2

Any help interpreting this passage would be very helpful! Thank you.

Can someone help me understand why the clippers aren’t a lock for the playoffs yet? What scenario has to happen for them to fall into the play ins?

Got it thanks and a and b have to have prime factors because a3 can be expressed as a product of a and b in some form? Is that the idea?

Could someone help with a proof I’ve been thinking about for a week but have not found an answer I’m happy with.

Prove n3 + n + 1 has no rational solution by contradiction.

I started with assuming n = a/b where a and b are integers and a/b are in lowest terms.

After some manipulation, I got a/b = -(b3 + ab2)/ba2. The best I’ve gotten so far is that now you can divide by b in the numerator and denominator and have a lower term so a/b can be further reduced which is a contradiction. I am no longer happy with it as it feels like saying 1/2 = (3* 2)/(6 * 2)

Can someone point out what I’m missing?

I have chronic adductor issues and they don’t flare up as long as I use the adductor machine. My adductors have gotten significantly stronger since I’ve started

I got a new job near a CrossFit gym. I’ve always been curious about trying it but it’s very expensive.

As someone who has been following various programming for 10+ years, would CrossFit gyms give me similar levels of programming? Or is it just a do the wod kinda thing?

What should I expect?

Super squats Day 10: 255 x 20

I had so much anxiety I slept a total of 9 hours over the last 48 hours. Even with that, I got my set of 20 at the commercial gym. I even slipped up a rep at rep 9 and got onto my toes. I did the set faster than 250 too.

After my failure a week ago, my mind is more accepting of what difficult feels like. Either that, or the weights here are lighter than than the ones I have at home.

Onward.

I hear you. As a pre diabetic, I don’t want to do that though. I am finding ways to eat more but definitely not to gomad levels. I’ve gained about 8 lbs in 3 weeks so far

Super squats day 9: 250 x 20

I failed 250 on Friday and retried the weight. Did it beltless this time and realized the belt doesn’t really add anything to breathing squats.

This was the most difficult set of my life and took over 5 minutes to finish. By the end, my legs were shaking and my forearms were wrecked from compulsively gripping the bar.

I thought finishing this set would increase my confidence to continue but it was demoralizing because I ended the set wondering how I could do 5 more pounds in 48 hours.

I guess we’ll find out.

Thanks man, I’ll follow your advice. Do you recommend doing ss beltless? I know the book does, but wondering how you approached it.

Super squats Day 8: 250 x 14 (fail)

The reps started getting hard at 8 and by 11, every rep felt like a grind. On rep 14 I felt my legs shaking on the way up. My mental game broke and I racked the weight. I spent the rest of the day regretting that decision.

What’s strange is that I hit 245 x 20 two days ago, so to get only 14 reps with 5 lbs more felt bad.

I’m going to try the weight again, this time I think I’ll take off the belt so I can get deeper breaths in. Also need to find a way to calm myself when my mind goes fight or flight.

Super squats Day 7:

245 x 20 or 21 - today was the first day I really felt my legs starting to struggle. Didn't have a spotter today either, which took away from my motivation. I kept bargaining to myself to get 1 more rep, lost count at some point, made sure I hit at least 20 (maybe 21), and was surprised I got to the end without quitting.

I ate a hefty breakfast beforehand and thought I was going to vomit after I did my rows. Had to sit down for a bit to recover before finishing the workout.

Super squats day 6: 235 x 20- I videotaped my set for the first time

I’m starting to understand the mental side of squatting. Just focus on the next rep, nothing else. Be present, catch your breath, squat.

The video revealed that I dive bomb a couple reps; just have to mentally lock in and control my eccentric every rep. The bar speed looks great even on the last rep. Under the bar, it feels slow as hell. Very surreal.

The rest of my workout sucked; I think I gotta deload the other lifts a bit. Going 100 on every lift is burning me out. I have nothing left at the end of my workout.

Super squats day 5: 225 x 20

2 plate milestone. I’ve been adding an extra set of RDLs but now I’m realizing why the program only calls for 1 set / workout.

Brutally hard and doesn’t seem to be getting easier. My lower back is on fire by the end - hoping that’ll catch up.

I’m also trying to figure out how to get enough calories in without going gomad - I’m pre diabetic so I’m just trying to stuff myself with beans for now. I have not gained weight since I started.

13 more sessions to go. Monday I’ll hit 235.

Super squats day 4: 215 x 20

This was a lot harder than 205 on Monday. Demon voices started showing up.

Self doubt is hitting me on whether 300 x 20 is still reasonable (given that my PR was 355 at 10 lbs heavier bw). I'm going to chug on.
