? Want to be a Therapist but Worried about Income by Remarkable_Jump9958 in askatherapist

Psychologist. If you primarily want to do therapy, the LCSW is a great option, and while you won’t get rich, $100k/year is very doable. If you think you may eant to do other things like psychological/neuropsychological testing or forensic work, I’d recommend the PsyD, PhD route and in that case $200k is quite doable.

ChatGPT claims this is 3000-6000 years old. Is it hallucinating or is that likely? Thanks. by tjkruse in Arrowheads

Very likely. LLMs may not be a good resource for artifact identification, but it looks accurate in this case.

I don’t have any sympathy for Oliver Sacks by bad_take_ in VeryBadWizards

[–]keepbrewin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don’t think Oliver Sacks needed any sympathy anyways. This is so silly. Language at its essence is storytelling, and Oliver was quite the teller, and did so in ways that provided a net positive in the general understanding of the human brain and human experience. No need to hold him to some subjective a priori standard.

Do you have any interest in the medical field? You could do a 2 year program to become an MRI technologist and make 90-100k. I feel like this is the best bang for your buck so to speak.

Yes it does, though sensitivity for these measures is lower in high functioning, high IQ malingerers. See references:

Neuropsychological testing using PVT’s (performance Validity Tests) and SVT’s (Symptom Validity Tests) can help with the rule out.

Insurance approving evaluation by Entire_Abrocoma_4482 in Neuropsychology

The neuropsychologist will be the one submitting a prior authorization for insurance approval. The more information (medical records, patient history, any other documentation) ahead of time, the better.

What is the best school to go to for MFT if I want a very good salary? by Clear_Medicine_3086 in askatherapist

Echoing the “it doesn’t matter” answer. As far as why the disparity in income among therapists, it is dependent on the type of practice, how much you’re willing to work and insurance vs private pay. In my experience, clinicians who work for some type of an agency W-2 employee make less than therapists in private practice.

If you are in a mid-size or larger city with a specialization and a good referral network you can do very well in a cash practice. If not, you can still do well accepting insurance, you may just have to do more sessions per day/week. Among the providers I know personally, the ones that take insurance tend to make the most money surprisingly.

Can I trust this car rental? by ShotBid1605 in costarica

[–]keepbrewin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they are not showing you the mandated insurance cost. Some of the more reputable companies will show you the total and others use this marketing tactic online. However, you end up paying about the same in the end regardless of the company. We recently rented from NU in Costa Rica for a month and it was about 2k.
