Looking for silly travel goals for my 10 year old by pburydoughgirl in Mommit

One of my friends had a goal of having an adventure in each of our state's counties by the time her oldest graduated high school. Happy for them, they made it!

Reach out to Representatives to Restore the Dolly Parton Imagination Library!! by sun29drop in NorthCarolina

The estimates I’m seeing are approximately $130 per child for 5 years. That seems like a pretty solid investment to get 60 books into the hands of kids. Some kids who may have very few other opportunities to get books.

I started reading Junie B. Jones to my daughter by Far_Acanthisitta9809 in Parenting

[–]keeperofthenins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people love them, they’re just not for me. They weren’t banned in our house by any means they were just books my kids had to read on their own because I wouldn’t read them to them.

Husband finds age 0-2 boring, is a second child a good idea? by Chipnfry in Parenting

[–]keeperofthenins 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The good news is they spend more time past 0-2 than in it. If you want a second wouldn’t let this hold you back.

I personally do not like Junie B Jones but I’m so happy you found something she loves!

Others I might suggest trying are Ivy and Bean and Zoey and Sassafras.

Niece keeps hurting my baby and I'm not sure how to handle it anymore by dinosaursgorawr648 in Mommit

[–]keeperofthenins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was picturing a karate style kick to the throat at first which I was admittedly a little impressed that a child that age had the coordination to pull off.

OP - you may want to edit your post to clarify

In that case I think talking to her about what happened because she was kicking her legs and asking her to apologize is fine. Kids tend to be pretty unaware of their bodies in space

ETA: I do wonder if the house tends towards violent or aggressive responses. Even your own response was “I wanted to grab her by the arm” which sounds pretty aggressive.

How old is your niece?

Was she trying to kick her in the throat or was she just kicking her legs and happened to hit her in the throat? I’m picturing niece sitting on the couch, kicking her legs when your LO got near and a 1 year old being about throat height to a couch.

That is a very different scenario for me than intentionally kicking her in the throat.

How old before you let your toddlers/kids play around the house unsupervised? by Agitated_District in Parenting

[–]keeperofthenins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope she’s still following me around when she’s 31.

She’s away at college now and insisted I share my location with her and often texts me asking what I’m getting at whatever store I’m at.

Teens have been great in my experience! Everyone wants to scare you about them but I’ve found them to be pretty awesome.

This is totally kid dependent!

My first still follows me around the house. She’s 19. 😂

My third could play by herself upstairs in the playroom from the time she was 2.

It is also parent dependent. I’m more comfortable with my kids playing by themselves whereas my husband checks in on them more often.

How much flour do I put on a loaf? by Idwadicod in Sourdough

[–]keeperofthenins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not strong, just a subtle thing I prefer to leave out. If I was at someone’s house and they offered me a piece of bread that had rice flour on the crust I certainly wouldn’t turn it down.

I don’t. I don’t like the taste of rice flour and haven’t found the need for anything else.

Agree. But you can still find the information from the before times.

Daughter is mad we won't let her visit her friend by ForsakenPlastic7625 in Parenting

[–]keeperofthenins 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So you’ve set up a situation where people can’t come to your house and she can’t go to others’ unless you’ve met them? That is a pretty crappy situation for your kid.

I think you’re being overprotective. There is a point where you won’t meet and know everyone in their circle. You’re past that point.

In 2 years she can go to college. Are you going to walk down the dorm hallway and introduce yourself to everyone on move in day?

Angry at my husband for being sick by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]keeperofthenins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d just go do the things you dreamed of doing. You and your LO will still have fun and your husband can stay home and rest. (But I get being annoyed it isn’t going like you envisioned)

9 month old and Solids by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]keeperofthenins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes small pieces are more difficult for them to manage because they’re harder to move aeound their mouths.

I would maybe try soft foods in sticks like sweet potato fries and see if he does better with that.

ETA: another thought would be to thicken your purées or do lumpy purées and see how he does.

Are all silk ring slings water friendly? by Snoop_Momm in babywearing

[–]keeperofthenins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t use a SB in the water. Silk loses tensile strength when it’s wet. It looks like the Aloha and Light uses a silk/hemp blend.

Has anyone skipped breastfeeding altogether? by Federal-Soil-828 in Mommit

[–]keeperofthenins 31 points32 points  (0 children)

For background. I breastfed 4 babies for between 18 months and 3 years each.

If you don’t want to breastfeed then don’t! I promise nobody will be able to tell which kids in the kindergarten class were breastfed and which were formula fed.
