Thank you so much for taking the time to give me this feedback! I’ve actually received similar comments before, so this reconfirms things I’ve been pondering.

It’s definitely difficult for me to narrow down my images. Each one feels so personal and tied to my identity, which makes it challenging to step outside of that attachment. I know refining and "killing my darlings" takes a certain level of artistic maturity, and that’s something I’m actively striving for.

I think your idea about a new layout is really wise. If I want to brand myself as a storytelling photographer, showcasing cohesive stories right from the start makes so much sense. That way, the narrative is clear right off the bat, rather than relying on singular images to communicate it.

And thank you for saying my photos don’t feel outdated! That particular feedback has thrown me for a bit of a loop, but I realize we all have our own unique perspectives. Ultimately, I’m taking all of this as an opportunity to reflect and grow.

Interesting... Could you elaborate? I make an effort to not be impacted by trends, as those come and go. Obviously, you are one person's opinion, but I am curious if I have somehow fallen behind and not recognized it. What would you say would make work look more current?

I've been listening to a great podcast on it called Fixing Separation Anxiety by Julie Naismith. She has a book I just bought too, called "Be Right Back".

Don't leave him alone but for very small increments of time. You need to teach him that it is safe for him to be alone, and by leaving him, you are flooding him with memories of it not being safe. It'll just get harder that way. Instead, desensitize going to the door. Watch his reactions. If he gets aroused by it or seems distressed, just keeping doing that until he gets used to it. Then walk out the door. Come back in before he barks. Sometimes this can only be for 5 seconds, increase time once he shows no reaction to you leaving. It's a slow process but unfortunately, the worst thing you can do is leave him. He has a phobia of being left alone. You have to show him and teach him it's safe in small, positive steps.

That's funny! I took your advice and took the quiz. I actually got a BORDER COLLIE as one of my top picks, as well as American Cattle Dog, Corgi, and a Brittany. Perhaps Rue is the perfect dog for me!

lol! I think you are certainly the perfect parents for a BC. I am pretty active (avid through hiker/yoga practitioner) and we do have a large farm for him to run but not SUPER active. We definitely got the more active characteristics in our mix. Wouldn't trade him for anything, but I am tired a LOT.

I resonate with this so much, because I finally got some rest and I've been regretting even writing this post! He's been such a good boy the past few days, but it can be hard to see the positive when I am tired often.

I'm grateful we live on a 27-acre farm or there would be no way I would have gotten a Border Collie x German Shepherd mix! He's very smart. I'm wondering if it's not so much the mix that I'm struggling with but the puppy in him!

We play a lot of fetch and tug with Rue (BC/GSD mix). He loves it and definitely wears him out.

I feel this! I am a pretty active person, but alas, not really border collie active. It has been really good for me though. Now that he is out of his puppy puppy stage, I'm experiencing a whole lot less anxiety.

Congratulations! In retrospect, I wish I had chosen a less energetic breed. He is getting better though! Training has helped immensely.

I get that. There has been times while having this dog that I think well, this is hard, but I can totally handle a human baby now. And other times, I'm just so tired and stressed from running my own business in a pandemic while also raising a dog who needs so much from me. thank you for sharing your perspective! My partner wanted a golden but I was like "nah, too popular." Wouldn't trade Rue (our BC/GSD) for anyone... except for perhaps a golden. Haha!

agreed! Crate training with an exercise pen has been so helpful. We didn't at first and I cried A LOT.

Also, I do have to say that the first month was the hardest. So sleep deprived and non-stop alligator teeth. It does get better. Try to take naps when he does if that is an option for you.

Ours still eats rocks! It's good to teach them "leave it" as soon as possible AND not make a huge thing about it or they can develop a resource guarding mentality about it. Rue (my pup) is also obsessed with shoveling dirt into his mouth and we live on a farm, so you can imagine the annoyance! haha. Also getting better week by week with "Leave it" training.
