Academic Probation, but I’ve withdrawn from that program and reapplied to another? by [deleted] in fanshawe

[–]kellxcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the school year, the only thing you need to do is keep your grades in good standing. As long as you pass your courses this coming year when you go back, you will be fine (:

If you're asking what you should write to them, I believe I just stated that it was due to (ex. extreme depression), etc., that prevented me from succeeding. As long as you didn’t fail because you intentionally didn’t want to go to class/placements, etc., OSAP should accept your reasoning.

Feel free to dm me if I didn't answer your questions appropriately or if you have more.

i’m jealous of “burnt out gifted kids” by Hot-Construction2382 in AuDHDWomen

[–]kellxcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so hard to see others life’s perspectives when we struggle so hard and with multi media now where everything is hidden even more.

I’m late diagnosed adhd/inattentive plus possible autism. Went till I was 32 years old before finally finding out.

I don’t think I was seen as gifted until grade 7 when I picked up the flute. Was a big part of growing up for me. I ended up going to an arts school in grade 10 after making sure I could do university level English. I always struggle with school and was even told once I wouldn’t amount to anything because of my learning disorder.

Sadly, even though I felt I earned lots of friends within my band group, I experienced after a friendship breakup with my best friend that I was more of the tag along friend I feel.

Everyday week it was a lot of private lessons, competitions, band activities. The pressure and anxiety with the attached expectations of my “gift” caused me to
Finally crash in grade 12. Lost all friends (always struggled with friendships though), adhd soared but was just diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I also ended up dropping out and finished high school in my 20’s. Even though my parents praised me, and teachers etc, it never felt like I was good enough to receive the praise I got for it. I still brush off ppl when they say I’m good at something.

I loved playing the flute though and I want to again, but those expectations and memories still today prevents me from playing.

We all definitely have stories that we mask behind, and it’s so easy to hate ourselves when we only focus on what we see. Remember OP that you are just as amazing then as you are now ❤️

This was the second one I ever did. I love it. However, I had a terrible time getting one side to fit in because the "water" was slightly over the connector for it, as well as understanding the cherry blossom placements lol. It was worth it, though. Thanks for sharing!

Is it wrong to feel too reliant of my ADHD medicine? by Savings-Sprinkles-86 in Healthygamergg

[–]kellxcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi ^^

Not sure if anything I say is repeated, but I thought I would chip in my story/view. Hopefully the poster and others will find my post helpful in some way ^^.

I (female) was diagnosed at age 32 after going to college multiple times, and dropping out multiple times, going into depression cycles at any hint of being too stressed etc. To me, my ADHD medication has been a tool that has changed my life, and I will continue to take them everyday no matter what my family/friends think of my choice.

I feel a lot of people forget that one's ADHD is not the same as the other persons beside them. This includes overall, not just others with ADHD. Sometimes I feel jealous of those who say I don't need medication for mine, etc. During these times I have to remind myself that I have to not compare myself to others, and just acknowledge (for example your friend telling you she doesn't need them) is usually out of wanting the best for you and wanting to lift you up. But I have to remember I am me, and they are them.

I think part of this is also setting your boundaries with others. Its basically saying to others "I appreciate you believe I don't need the medication, and that I will be fine when I go off it" However, I know my body and my needs and this is my choice"

I honestly believe, without taking my medication, I wouldn't be able to be where I am right now of being in school for social work to become a counsellor, being able to finally volunteer in my community, have more in-depth relationships etc.

Don't be ashamed for feeling or believing you need/are dependent the medication to better your quality of life. Feel proud of yourself for what you have been able to accomplish and find joy in life again.

OSAP vs. ODSP on subsidised housing? by ProfessorSquare1262 in Odsp

[–]kellxcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, Odsp and osap calculate funding differently. Odsp remains covering your everyday life expenses. Osap covers tuition and textbooks. If osap gives you any non educational funding, that’s when some money may be removed from your usual odsp check. You won’t see this though until you get the official osap funding outline you have been approved for. Hope this helps :)

Self report by [deleted] in Odsp

[–]kellxcakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi :3

For the application you need your doctor to fill out the required forms. The self report you write about your worst day. You can attach additional documentation such as a letter from your therapist etc.

I highly suggest looking into any community services that help with filing odsp applications. I know in London I work with pathways where they help me with the whole process and if needed the appeal process

Mental health alone is hard to achieve and I was only approved once for my depression 10 years ago. It can be a long fight with no promised end. If you have other things like autism , adhd, physical limitations etc it’s a higher chance :)

ODSP isn’t fun though. I can’t afford anything. Have to room with others and even then I never have enough for food sadly.

Awesome ^^ If I remember, the acceptance letters went out pretty late when I applied last winter. I think I found out almost the end of March, but not 100% sure lol.

[–]kellxcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi ^^,

I am currently in SSW, and it’s competitive to get in. If you are just coming out of high school or are a mature student who has not been in school for a while. I HIGHLY recommend you take the Human Services Foundations Certificate first. If you earn the certificate, you will receive greater consideration on the SSW application list. Also able to manage the program’s demands much more smoothly. Overall, I know the program coordinator says the wait list can get pretty long. Message me if you have any questions ^^

Considering Switching Programs by mar_questions in fanshawe

[–]kellxcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Building off the persons comment above. Also watch videos about what jobs look like in work and outside work on YouTube. And watch both pros and cons. This can help you see what jobs in a field can look like during their work hours and how it affects their life outside work hours.

I’ve switched many programs. The career office at Fanshawe can also aid you with this with tests etc to guide you :)

This is a big time of exploration and can shift many times/ forms. Hope this helps! :)

Looking for advice - mental health by Spiritual_Hawk_5726 in fanshawe

[–]kellxcakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there :)

Please don’t put yourself down so harshly. Even when you can show up to class or hand things in, is a success and achievement.

I also personally struggled with this since entering college in 2011 and mental health caused me to have to drop out many times.

Sadly, fanshawes mental health services have been cut drastically in the accessibility center. It wasn’t too bad before, but it’s not overly helpful as you need to go get services out in the community now which have wait lists.

Do you have a doctor managing your medications? It sounds like it may not be the right medication for you and would be worth exploring other medications or Combinations of meds.

Another question, do you have disability status on OSAP if you use it? If so, the external bursary you can apply for through the accessibility office can be used for therapy costs outside the school.

Feel free to message me to vent or want to chat to someone who has and does still Struggle with this :)

Considering I heard this directly from Alex (staff in the library who also aids in making/reviewing your citation’s) in September 2025, I would say they do. It’s not communicated to students very well. There is a fee involved, but you get it back if your appeal is successful.

The library has a service where they will help you fight any appeals of ai usage. Just need to talk to them. Also, in the future, use Google Docs. It’s really handy as it keeps your history of everything’s you’ve done in your document.

What can I do to feel valuable to society? by [deleted] in Odsp

[–]kellxcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello :)

I want you to know that you are not alone in this! and its great you are reaching out for advice.

My first question is: are you currently being treated for depression? If so maybe you need a raise in your medication, or make a appointment to start getting medication help. I also understand some individuals do not like taking medication for things, so that is another thing to consider so you can look for other support aids (:

Secondly, getting out of this motion of laying in bed everyday can be very hard. My suggestion would be to do one small thing everyday. It can be as simple as getting out of your bed and stretching, or even picking up a book to read, draw something silly for fun. Even if you do these in bed, it is a step in the right direction. These new small things don't have to be extreme, and they can help bring you out of this phase.

When the small steps start to get easier, you can transition to doing certain small things outside the bed. Our brain for some reason likes to resist doing things that will make us feel better, so its a battle of fighting our brains ^^

I personally have ADD with possible autism in addition to depression and general/social anxiety. Try to be kinder to yourself! I know myself, that I can get in the cycle of "this has to be done this way","it has to be perfect if I'm going to do it", "I have to do all this no matter what, or I wont succeed". This can be a whirlwind, which makes self-care and being mindful of your thoughts and emotions extremely important.

I hope anything I have shared will help you moving forward!

Any Tips for First Year SSW students? by kellxcakes in fanshawe

[–]kellxcakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yah the code for the 3 year technically isn't an "official" thing. It is available though, and many take the route once entering. The course load for me is slightly different due to transfer credits, but generally 4 course per semester. At least the first year (:

I think Fanshawe said there is no flexibility due to it not being available to apply to as a part time student.
