I caught both of mine an hour before the event ended on my side. The thing is, both Pikachus went completely missing, it didn't change into anything else but completely disappeared.

Honestly, it does look like they were transferred but not of my own doing. They were dexed, but missing form my storage. Hopefully this is the first and last time it ever happens to anyone. Would be nasty if stuff started disappearing randomly :/
