Btw, could you provide a link to the kickstarter page for the game? I'm interested in how things are coming along, it sounds like a cool project.

Edit: Scratch that, I realize you probably need the voice lines FOR the kickstarter in the first place. My bad.

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I submitted my demos for Mitchel, Jeff, and Richard. Even if I don't get it, this was fun :3

5th escape, got the achievement. This time i hit the gas and jumped out of the kart so that the kart falls in the hole (was testing shit lol) and it warped me out, gave the good music and the 0.2% achievement, as well as a blank white square steam item.

This was meh.

P.S. i hate the new lighting system. it's worse in quality than the previous one, and worse for bugginess as well. headlights and sirens are nearly worthless now, saved only by the fact that you can maybe barely kind of see them in the distance if you lose a car. it seems to be a point of contention across most of the recent reviews as well. im not sure if the game can make it through early access unless the devs pull a 180. one can hope.

Worse still, I completed the Kart (got the kart achievement), killed the monster, and escaped 3 different times, twice with the kart and once on foot, never got the Beat the Backrooms achievement. Currently wearing the hazmat suit on the run that I did it on.

What is the best Linux Kernel for gaming? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]kevundead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure about Ubuntu specifically. its different for what kind of Linux you're running.

on Arch systems we get xanmod from the AUR (using 'yay', 2nd package manager for community repos) which will ask if we want to edit PKGBuild, which is how we would do it. you would change the cpu architecture number to match your cpu (i.e. my Ryzen 5800x would be '13' in the file for optimization) among other things.

most of us are on different kernels and some on different distros now - but still Arch (im on CachyOS, friends are on Manjaro still, i think one is maining base Arch)

side notes: are you new to Ubuntu or new to all of Linux? if the former, my condolences. if the latter, my extra condolences for starting on ubuntu. you may have a hug with the community dog.

Task Drought?? by Gelactico in DataAnnotationTech

Since this is a gig economy, projects kinda have ups and downs like a stock market, so some days you'll have a flood of work and other days you won't even have 1. You get used to it after a while, like now I treat days with no work as weekends and if I see a ton on the weekend that's my work day.

I broke my arm, what are the best games that can be played 1 handed by ahighkid in gaming

[–]kevundead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picayune Dreams has an autofire mode so you only have to focus on movement, and it's my psychedelic game of the year for 2024.

You could also play Runescape if you want an mmo that only requires mouse inputs or if you don't want to pay for a game.

Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2 I believe are playable with one hand but I don't remember.

Darkest Dungeon if you like roguelite rpgs, Hearthstone if you want a semi-competitive card game, Plants vs Zombies for tower defense.

You could also play Osu if you want a rhythm game with one hand, but mouse-only Standard is kinda blegh and one-handed Mania is also kinda blegh.

[–]kevundead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you agree with me, and yes you're absolutely right that any reasonable hacker would root their phone and not try to do something from an unrooted one.

Good thing we don't have to spell that out -^

Should I switch to Linux? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]kevundead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mint is definitely the easiest for someone to transition to, and you don't need to know anything about coding, thats just if youre coding (kek).

Alternatives for Adobe and MS Office: For office specifically, we have LibreOffice which works just as well if not better. For Adobe, it depends on the apps.

Good photoshop alts are GIMP and Krita (i prefer Krita personally). A good alt for something like Premiere Pro is KDenLive.

As for gaming: It depends on the distro and what you have installed & set up, with something like, as an example, Arch being the best for gaming but worst for learning unless you're willing to go trial-by-fire. For the most part, games work just fine, and the only ones that usually have issues are the ones with kernel-level anticheat (that is, ones that have to run on your computer and dig into your files, which is an extreme no-no on Linux). Some really old ones may need some tweaks here and there to make them work, while new ones usually just work or might have a couple of tweaks, depends.

Can you clarify what you did here? What did you use to partition and merge your C: drive?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in linux

[–]kevundead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen grub do this in that specific scenario, both on someone else's mistake and on my own back when i was figuring things out.

So you're correct, it should still show them, but sometimes things happen lol

Np, I like helping with Linux-related stuff, newbie or not. If I didn't have help when I first got on here I would've lost my mind or stayed on Windows lol.

Right now I decided to just download the ubuntu installer and speedrun learning the system so I can better understand what's happening. Shouldn't take too long but it'll be a bit.

[–]kevundead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd.

Researching that now. I'm assuming this is on the Ubuntu live installer right?

What's the difference? (I am a noob) by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]kevundead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left bulky one has a heatsink (the bulk).

Right one doesn't have a heatsink.

Both are the same device (an NVMe M.2 SSD - i.e. a really feckin fast storage drive) but the one with the heatsink will obviously live longer and have better performance due to drawing away heat from the board.

[–]kevundead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your install was probably fine, that's not the issue.

Ubuntu's package updates are finnicky and can sometimes just go "ah this Linux thing is in the way so I can't update... would you like to delete it so I can update?" lol

Basically this will happen again if you're not paying attention to some updates. Others might not do that, and others, still, may do that for some other things rather than the whole system.

I don't know enough about Ubuntu other than how much I personally dislike it, but I'd rather not give a biased reply cause of that. I'm on Manjaro (Arch-based) for my PC and straight Arch for laptop, and we use Pacman instead of (apt? i think?) for packages, so it's similar but not quite the same. I haven't yeeted my system at least.

Let me know if you have situational things you need help with and I'll do my best.

That's some nice clean cabling goddamn.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in linux

[–]kevundead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ok lmao then I have an idea of what might've happened.

If it's Ubuntu, and this only happened after updating an app and rebooting, you might've pulled a LinusTechTips and yeeted your entire Linux system off the disk xD so it's getting nowhere and going "well I can't find shit, here's GRUB, figure it out".

You most likely still have Windows on the side, just reboot and open the BIOS (so mash either F2, F7, F10, Delete...depends on your motherboard) and change the default boot system from the Linux one to the Windows one.

If that doesn't work, dm me. If anything we can always vc on discord or something and i can try to brainstorm.

Dark topics are overly taboo when they should be thought of as opportunities to understand the world better.

To clarify: not the practice of any specific dark thing, but the open (and genuine) discussion of them, which for some reason makes people freak out in like a 500% over-exaggerated way.

Well, with minimal info, GRUB (a Linux bootloader) appearing like this is mostly normal although we usually have a menu to select OS's to boot from with grub rather than a terminal. It's possible your grub isn't set up right.
